Wow! What A Saturday For Hs Football

WoodyHayes

homesick
I watched the Florida games and was completely enthralled watching, what I feel are the two best teams in the country, MNW (1) and Booker T Washington (2) I then flip over and start watching the Cali D-1 final. DLS was killing this team and I start to drift off to sleep. Wake up about 10 minutes later and they are driving for the win. They did not get it. What a game. I sure was glad to see Coach Lad get this. What a class act and cool customer. This guy did not even flinch or miss a step when the gatorade hit him (anyone else see this) After watching all the big states and teams this year, I would put X and DLS about even. I would put Katy just below them, Booker T just above them and MNW heads and shoulder above the rest. I have not seen Prattville so I dont know how they would factor in. I have 2 taped games of X (Mentor and DC) 2 of MNW (SLC and Boon) and 2 of Booker T (Nease and Summerville) I am going to put a dvd together and watch them and reconvince myself of what I just said. What a day for football.

Could you create a 7 or 8 minute highlight reel of all the teams you have and post on Youtube?

Congrats to DLS and especially Coach Lad

Sounds like a game for the ages

We are still in Las Vegas celebrating my wife's birthday. We got out of the show at 8:20 last night and the first update I could get from the Contra Costa times was DLS 17-7 second quarter. We were driving the strip and then got the 24-7 halftime update. I said to myself unlike last year Southern California and the state are seeing the DLS we are familiar with.

Playing poker at the Mirage and got the 31-7 update and I told my wife DLS is going to win the state bowl game. Then in 2-3 updates it was suddenly 31-31. I said WHAT???

Seems like the Centennial team came on like gang busters and throw on a safety a Td on a short field and a previous 2 point conversion and a seeingly unsurmountable lead was erased.

But like the 1998 Mater Dei game and the 2001 LB Poly game the Spartans made a key scoring drive and super defensive stands at the key points in the game.

If everything goes well when I get home tomorrow the game will be taped with plenty of pre and post game stuff. I will enjoy watching DLS flawless performance for the first 2/3 of the game, a great comeback by Centennial and the great athletes and the exhilirating final few drives of the game. I am sure I will watch and rewatch it many times over the next few weeks. I also am curious to see what that smarmy little homer for the LA Times had to say at halftime when it was 24-7.

Great year for high school football and congrats to St X MNW and DLS for all having super years.

In leading the 12th rated team 24-7 at the half, DLS finished the season outscoring its 13 opponents 392-28 in the first half this year.

You went to Vegas?

Win any money? Do realize that instead of going to Vegas, you could have taken your wife to Southlake and watched "Phantom of the Opera" They are only one of three high schools allowed to do it (that last statement is unconfirmed, I was eatin dinner one night and some guy told me)

Watched the Boone/MNW game...not impressed. I just can't believe that at this point in the season teams of that "caliber" make the number of mistakes they do. The penalties were an absolute joke and you gotta love MNW's center hiking the ball OVER Jacory Harris. Nice! :thumb:

Boone was about the most uninventive, boring offense I've ever seen. I know MNW's defense had something to contribute to them looking that bad but my goodness, that was the best the entire Orlando area had to offer?? :help:

After seeing what I've seen nationally, I gotta go with the following as my top 5:

1. St. Xavier
2. DeLaSalle
3. Katy
4. MNW
5. Prattville

The team play and execution of St. Xavier puts them above all others. MNW can have all the talent in the world but if they were to play like that against either DeLaSalle or St. Xavier, it's nighty-night Bulls.

also wanted to add all 3 games this year were tied in the 4th and even though the south has won 5 of the 6 games it can be said only the d2 game last year was non competitive

Im a hardcore DLS homer but I tend to agree with you on your rankings, with the poss exception of Prattville. Aint seen them yet.

Man CC is some team. By far more athletes and quite a spread offense. This was a game DLS had to win and I am glad they did but it was scary...Great Game!

Boone's season can be summarized as many close wins over mediocre or bad teams, only being able to score on bad teams, and not a single decisive win over anyone of note.

Despite their 14-0 record, I don't think that here can be much doubt that there had to be a several 6A teams that were markedly better than Boone.

To be fair to MNW, it was the title game and they had just had an extremely close call the week before. Boone really didn't have any business in the title game though. The bracket gods smiled on them to get them to the title game.

Wheres the Hate?

Where is there any hate at in the post. Hey, next time you are around Longview or Tyler, give me a holler. Id LOVE to meet ya.

There may not have been any obvious hate in that post, but your body of work speaks for itself. Why would you bring up Southlake Carroll when the thread had nothing to do with them and nobody else had mentioned them? I doubt I'll be out your way anytime soon unless my wife talks me into going to the boats or something. It's probably been ten years since I've been through Tyler and Longview. If I ever do though, I'll be sure to holler "Woody!" as I go through. :)

It's not hate. It's jealousy.

Of course my homer posts don't help any. :D :D

Orlando Boone is ranked about where San Ramon is (405 and 421 on CalPreps, respectively).

MNW beat Boone 41-0 and DLS beat San Ramon 37-0 in the Section Championship.

If California had as many classes as Florida, or if the enrollment requirements weren't skewed between North and South, DLS wouldn't even have played Centennial for the state championship. And DLS woudn't have played Canyon Country last year.

With more clases, DLS may well have crushed their opponent both years (no way of knowing for sure, of course, but it's certainly possible).

California's Division I Championship this year involved the top two teams in the state, and both were ranked nationally.

If MNW had played Washington for the state championship, then comparisons between the two games would make sense. And I think MNW would be doing pretty well to win that one 37-31.
