People have so many options for communicating these days. They do not really need Yappi to do that. It's not really a social medium.

There are obviously many that use message boards to promote and recruit. Others use it to try out ideas, bounce them off others or to role play. Anonymous boards have a use that's different than social media and quite honestly, there's a lot less "bullying" happening on the anonymous boards than on social media.

Others use it to try out ideas, bounce them off others.

This is big for me. Plenty of people know my real name and if you really want to know it isn't that hard to find out. But I do like using yappi to bounce around thoughts I wouldnt waste people's time with IRL.

I would choose the threads that I reply in a bit more carefully, as well as the times of day that I post, but as far as the content, I pretty much say what is on my mind in a professional manner, keeping in mind that, for the most part, I am discussing 15-18 year old student athletes.

I think I posted 1 offensive comment ever...

something about where the sun don't shine.

I generally try to post in the same manner as if I were talking to someone face-to-face. That being said, I would likely post a lot less often. Not because I post inappropriately, but more because there are a lot of crazies out there. Some anonymous jerk out there who is just lurking and not posting could very easily take it upon themselves to try to harm me in some way (either professionally or, god forbid, physically) simply because they disagree with certain positions I might take.

Note: I am NOT limiting this to one side or the other of the political aisle - this could be as true for someone taking the exact opposite of my positions as it is for me. I am also NOT talking about any poster in particular that actually DOES post here. I can't think of a single poster here that would take such action - but again, it is not the people posting here that would necessarily present such a problem - it could very easily be a lurker.

and I'm hunting for you! Your going down!
Even though at the end of the foot, you're near the ground.

Most area people know who I am.

True story. A few years ago, the previous Supt. of our local school district called me because the parent of a senior basketball player called him COMPLAINING BECAUSE I WASN'T TALKING ABOUT HIS KID ON THE FORUMS. I never said anything negative, nor did I mention his name. HE WANTED ME TO BRING HIS KID UP! It takes all kinds.

Was the Superintendent telling you because of how hilarious that was, or was he seriously passing on the complaint?

He was totally serious. He and the guy complaining, religiously read Yappi. When I posted leading scorers in the game and his kid wasn't mentioned, he got upset. I'd like to think the Supt. had more on his plate that what was being posted on Yappi. I guess he got bored with his game of solitaire.

Don't Touch me - I don't like to be touched!

It really doesn't take too much to find out who people are......anyone who understands the internet and IP addresses can get a house location with ease.

Due to sport talk radio I was never anonymous, never @ Solon, and hardly on Yappi either in NE Ohio. Other Solon posters had it easier, all the coaches and parents knew who Hurri-Comet was. All in all it's been no big deal.
