What Movies Did You See In February 2014?

Iron Sky (2012) The plot. The President, a Sarah Palin look-alike, in a bid for re-election, orders astronauts back for a moon landing. One of the astronauts is black, leading to Palin character's campaign slogan, Black to Space. While landing on the darkside of the moon, the astronauts discover a massive Nazi base. The Nazis turn the black astronaut white as part of their plan to conquer the earth from the moon. Then things begin to get silly. Maybe a 2/8.

Sister theme....

First up

Die Sister, Die! (US-1973)

I see we have this sibling rivalry fighting over some inheritance that daddy left. Something more sinister is going on though as an ex nurse is hired to make a murder look like suicide..... 4.0/8

Weekend of Terror (US-1970)

We have NUNS!!!!!!! 3 nuns get abducted by some hoodlums one being Lee Majors who came complete with the mustache. The nuns learn that they will be killed so they decide to try and escape.... not bad for a very lame flick.... 3.0/8

Grabbers (Ireland-2012)

An alien sea monster that drinks blood is heading to shore to feast on the residents but the residents have a plan to protect themselves.... get pissed drunk making their blood toxic.... started out pretty good but got a bit too silly for my taste ... 3.5/8

The House that Bled to Death (UK-1980) A family moves into a house and strange things occur. They learned that a murder had taken place prior to them moving in.... With a name like this it better deliver but it fell far short. Had some moments though .... 3.5/8

The Basketball Diaries

Forgot how good this movie is. Dicaprio, Lorraine Bracco, Mark Wahlburg, Julliete Lewis, Michael Rapaport, Michael Imperioli (Sapranos) and a few other recognizable cast members help Jim Carroll (Dicaprio) over a drug addiction but it ain't pretty. Awesome.

7.5/8

It's a decent movie, but I think the book is legitimately better. It's actually a much darker story, and Carroll didn't beat his addiction until much later.

You seem to be taking it personally.

I'm being genuine. I think it's cool that you gave it a chance despite knowing going in that you were not going to like it (at least based on our conversation back when it came out). I wish more people would do that.

I have never seen this, but I would like to see it (as well as read the book).

I actually went in with an open mind and optimistic view. TBG also watched it and said he enjoyed it.

It wasn't the leap in technology that got me...it was the time gaps that occurred. At first, this was a brand new OS that was human like...but then alluva sudden people were dating them and the rest of society seemed "ok" with it. If there was advancement in time greater than just a few weeks, I missed it...and for something as new as that being socially accepted immediately was my disconnect.

I'll probably have to give it another shot...as I watched it late night and that could have contributed to my fatigue. Plus, my wife wanted to see it and I watched it without her...so I'll need to pretend I haven't watched it yet. :)

Aftershock (Chile-2012) - Horror

Eli Roth is involved in this film and is also in it. We are in Chile and our cast of characters have worked their way into an underground rave club scene when an earthquake takes place sending everything into chaos.... this film is all over the place and not pretty ... 4.5/8

Decided to give Gangster Squad a shot since it's leading up to True Detective. I give it a solid 1.5/8. Formulaic, over-done, over the top. Total bust with such an all star cast.

I propose a new rating system consisting of two grades. One grade is how well the movie was made, i.e. writing, acting, etc. The second grade is how much you enjoyed the movie.

For example, Side Effects would be a 5.5/8 for me on the first grade, but a 6.5/8 on the enjoyable grade. I like the style of movie (mystery/drama), so I actually liked it more than the 5.5 I gave it for how well it was done. Contrast that with another movie I could give a 7/8 on the first grade but actually enjoyed it less.

What do you guys think?

That's pretty good. I could see people tire of doing that eventually and just going back to one score, but I think it would be interesting to see how far apart people's scores are. A movie like Tree of Life would be really interesting when using those two scales.

EDIT: I guess to contribute, Lucky Number Slevin would be a 6/8 for me when it comes to enjoyment, but only a 4/8 when it comes to the technical aspects.

Hobo with a Shotgun would be an 8/8 enjoyment, 1/8 technical aspects. In all honesty I'd probably never use it only because I don't know enough about movies to be able to critique them like that.

That would be interesting to separate it like that. My ratings are based roughly 75% on how I enjoyed it. I also in some cases consider the budget of the film as well.
