What Movies Did You See In February 2014?

For those with Netflix streaming...

Has anyone gone to this site. http://instantwatcher.com/genres/56 I find it extremely helpful especially when you can list the movies according to your genre from when a movie has been released to stream. I don't have to search all through the titles looking for newer movies to the site....

The Butcher Boys
5/8
Solid, wannabe cult horror movie about cannibals running amok in San Antonio Texas! Vamp, if you haven't seen this yet I bet you would like it!

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
6/8
Excellent old school cold war spy drama. Gary Oldman give a clinic on restrained British acting.

John Dies at the End
8/8
Utterly weird and trippy horror movie that's truly hard to define. Check it out if you want to see something different.

I was liking it for awhile then it lost me ..... It just got too silly for my taste I guess.

Belphégor - Le fantôme du Louvre (France-2001)

A new Mummy find is taken to the Louvre Museum, soon after strange things start to occur as a phantom is seen wandering around collecting artifacts and causing guards to go mad who look into it's eyes.... The effects were something one would see on the SyFy channel... 3.0/8

Jesus. This shows just how f'ed up lotr's taste is.

First off, this movie definitely could be ranked by people anywhere between a 0 and an 8. It clearly would not be for everyone. However, in an age of comic book movies, endless sequels, prequels, restaging's and adapting cruddy old TV shows into brain dead epic movies I enjoy stuff that is original and this movie is original.

At the risk of committing sacrilege, "John Dies at the End" shares a lot of similarities with "Donnie Darko". It's visually very interesting with some low budget but very good special effects and a truly wild and twisted story. I would admit it probably jumps the shark toward the end but the way it handles time travel and inter-dimensional travel is clever and original.

BTW, a great supporting character by Paul Giamatti doesn't hurt either.

You just committed sacrilege .... lol

Saw Looper. It was pretty good. Didn't get too bogged down into the possible paradoxes created by time travel. I'd say 5/8.

Also saw Collateral. Interesting to see Tom Cruise as the villain. 4/8.

Diabólica malicia (Spain-1971)

Diabolica%2Bmalicia%2B%25281972%2529.jpg

I saw this under the title "Night Child" which is the 95 minute uncut version of "What the Peeper Saw". This was a very controversial film back in the day.

The characters:

Paul, 42 year old who travels Europe for work and just married Elise who is 22. Throw in Paul's 12 year old genius son Marcus who meets Elise for the first time and let the mind games begin. Elise immediately becomes suspicious of Marcus and soon believes that maybe Paul's first wife did not die of an accident. Marcus who is also a sexual who spies on Elise and Paul's love making explaining that it "gets him off" takes an unhealthy liking to Elise and uses mind games to cause friction between her and Paul... and he also likes killing and torturing animals..... The BBFC banned this film until they made extensive cuts..... I could see why as they did push the envelope in some scenes involving Elias and Marcus ... 5.5/8

The Power (US-1968)

Back to the safety of the US. Uh, 60's SciFy/Horror.... This was a Deja-Vu film. I am convinced that this was a remake of a 50's film... anyhow, an organization testing how much pain one can take starts to turn up dead one by one. Who or what is doing this..... 5.0/8

Resolution (US-2012)

Indie-Horror

A guy receives a strange video and a map from his junkie best friend. He locates his buddy and decides to hold him hostage in order to help him get clean. He soon though realizes that there are some strange things occurring in this remote place and starts investigating.... this flick was a mind "beep" .... 5.0/8

Killer Joe, only half way through, but wow, up. Kind twisted my stomach, when they mentioned the Dottie character was 12 (IRL the actress is 24).

Killer Joe- oh man, I don't know if I can rate it. Really, really twisted. Wish I'd not seen it. It wasn't "bad" from an acting point, the story overall was somewhat generic, with really sickening twists.

Pompeii

1/8

I'm a history channel Roman Empire nut so I had to see this movie and man what a waste of money! Dumb story combined with awful acting and cheesy special effects all in glorious, headache inducing REAL 3D - what's not to hate!

The story is basically Romeo & Juliet via the Titanic with a bit of PG13 Spartacus and Gladiator thrown in. There is not a single original thought in this thing. Even the ballyhooed eruption special effects are underwhelming - heck, I've judged better "volcanoes" at the Fairfield Middle School Science Fair!

The only redeeming element of this disaster is that I got a chance to witness 2014's Raspberry Award winner for worst actor in a Motion Picture. None other then Kiefer Sutherland strutting about and babbling in some type of a weird accent as an evil Roman Senator! Really, Kiefer, do you need the money that badly???

^^^Pompeii is getting lousy reviews. I love Roman history, too, but I'll stick with the History and Smithsonian channels' interpretations.

Just watched "The Raid: Redemption" on Starz. Non-stop Indonesian martial arts film about a SWAT team trying to take down a drug lord in a hi-rise. I thought it was a great movie of its genre. 7/8.

Not surprised. Figured it would be some bastardization to what really happened.

Martian Child - 2007 comedy/drama

John Cusack plays a SciFi book writer who adopts a young boy who claims to be from Mars..... 6.5/8
