WCAL Football 2024

Post-game interview with Moyer:

See previous post about Hillsdale and Norwayne. Hillsdale has had some really good teams over the years that could not get over the Norwayne hump. Add this one to the list….look for Hillsdale to have a really deep run in the playoffs though
In my opinion, Hillsdale will win region 25. I'm not sure if region 25 will play 27 in the semifinals, if so I think Hillsdale will meet the steamroller in the championship game. ML beat Coldwater 35-0 last night. Anyone know if the semifinal match ups by region have changed from last year?

The 50/50 winner at the ML/Coldwater game last night took home over $22,000. Ain't nobody touching ML this year. Might be their most dominating team in recent memory, and that's saying something.

Looks like 5 WCAL teams will be playing next week. Projected seeds are:
Norwayne 4 in R-18
Hillsdale 2 in R-25
Dalton 6 in R-21
Smithville 8 or 9 in R-21
Rittman 13 in R-21

Not sure about the semifinal matchups, but I do think Falcons have a shot at final 4. R25 does not have anyone that can bring Dalton level firepower at them, let alone what the saw last night from Bobcats.

As for Marion Local, any Dalton fans still upset over last year's loss please take note. Per Fantastic50, Coldwater is the #23 ranked team in the state across all divisions & the prohibitive favorite for the D6 title (40 spots ahead of Kirtland in F50's ratings) and MSML shut them out & put a running clock on them last night.

And, despite what i've heard from a few NE Ohio folks in regard to their dominance - no, they don't recruit. They just work hard, are extremely well coached & execute better than anyone else they play.

Norwayne is in a really tough bracket.
Hillsdale will be 10 pt favorites until regional finals
Dalton 2nd best team in R21 but will have to play on road in wk 12
Smithville very good shot to win wk 11 whether home or away. Week 12...not so much
Rittman earned their spot under the current system. At least the road trip won't be that bad

Ill jump in lol! First off I hope Im not the one who sugar coats things lol. I prefer to deal with facts. Smithville shot themselves in the foot all night long in the Chippewa game. The Chipps never got closer than the 30 yard line. Smithville played with out their starting QB but still moved the ball well....... too many mistakes when they got into scoring position. Smithvilles defense held Chippewa to 31 yards on the ground and 105 through the air. Haines from Smithville rushed for 193 himself. Smithville had 9 yds passing and 284 yds rushing. Not a pretty win. Looks like the Smithies will be heading to Trumball County to take on Labrae. I say its a coin toss as to who wins this one.

The first round games for the WCAL.
Delta @ Norwayne
Valley Christian @ Dalton
Fairport Harding @ Hillsdale
Smithville @ LaBrae
Rittman @ Columbia Station

Smithville vs Labrae should be the only good game just by looking at the games.
Outside of the league, but in the area, Dr. Drew has 8th seed Triway favored over 9th seed Johnstown. Also13th seed West Holmes is favored over 4th seed Unioto. I spend way too much time on this stuff, but at my age a person has to dedicate their time to something.

Yep should be the best games in our local area

All of the West Holmes faithful will want to avoid hitchhikers on their way to Unioto. Specifically when they're passing the Ross Correctional Institute located less than a quarter mile to the NE. (@Hot_Takes - warn your buddies)

Last year #2 Unioto lost their first-round to #15 seed Urbana 56-21.

Held under 300 yards and scored 1 offensive touchdown against the 3rd worst defense in the league (36 ppg coming in) Sounds like that bodes well for week 11!

No Durstine next week, so you’ll have either the JR Cannon making his 2nd start of the year or the freshman making his 3rd…. Cannon has been the go to lately when Durstine has been unable to go, so he’ll most likely get the nod. Did have a nice TD pass against Dalton. Had 2 decent runs in the Chippewa game.

Drew has Smithville as a 15 point favorite but I think that’s too high with a new QB. If Smithville can get the win, I think it’s by a closer margin. I’d put money on Labrea if it’s a double digit win for either side. Smithies will need to ride Haines and defend the pass. Labrea likes to hit the big guys over the middle. 😳

Per calpreps, Hillsdale is your favorite against Region 25, Dalton is favored till Kirtland, Norwayne will be the underdog in round 2 against Eastwood and Rittman is a 27 point dog.. But we should have a few teams playing late into November (hopefully)

Per DubStat https://dubstat.com/2024-ohsaa-football-playoff-projections/
Norwayne will beat Delta, Eastwood, then lose to Edison by 1 point in the Regional Semis
Dalton will beat Valley Christian, Pymatuning Valley, lose to Springfield by 2 in the Regional Semis
Smithville will beat Labrae, lose to Kirtland by 37 in the Regional Quarters
Rittman will lose by 25 to Columbia
Hillsdale will beat Fairport Harding, Windham, Malvern, and Monroeville by 3 for a Regional Championship setting up a match vs Danville for a chance to play Marion Local in Canton.

I figure Norwayne, Dalton, and Hillsdale make it out of the first round easily. Rittman will probably lose big. Smithville could go either way. I hope they pull it off but it sure has been a long time since they beat a team with a winning record (5 years).

Is Smithville healthy? If they are healthy I see them Shoit housing LeBrae
