Way too early predictions for next year?

Big matchup tomorrow as Walnut Hills travels to St. X. Any predictions? Maybe a letdown by St. X after their big win Friday night.

This just in —- Walnut in 4 OVER X
Walnut takes 1-3-4. 25-13 in the 3rd something like 29-27 in the 4th.

The "big 3" at Walnut from the Attack 17s are very good, no doubt, and they definitely run the show. However, the other players around them did a really nice job, though. Libero played well, better on defense than serve receive, but good nonetheless (esp. for a soph). The Walnut middles made some really timely plays both offensively and defensively. The right side had a good serving run in set 3 that forced X into a libero sub (then change for set 4).

Meyer for St. X was as advertised. Smart, aggressive swings throughout. Terrell was a spark plug early on and seemed unstoppable for them as well. St X shot themselves in the foot several times with missed serves and hitting errors in big moments. Passing was iffy for them all night as well, which I think was the reason X pulled Tressler and moved Pung to OH. Eberle came in at Opp and did a nice job, had a tough serve as well.

Saw a good match at Centerville last night. Centerville beat Beavercreek 3-1. Creeks outside was amazing and can jump out of the gym. Centerville had an outside that was really good, I think he was their middle last year, but he was hitting some bombs. Overall a good match with too many service errors. Interested to see how these teams turn out at the end of the season. Both can be really good.

any thoughts on the divisions outside the GCL South like the GMC or GCL Coed ? Seems like Carroll has a good hold on the Coed and Sycamore on the GMC as of right now

I would agree with the Carroll take. I like Moeller coming out of the GCL South. And in the GMC I really like Mason!

I think you're correct on both GCL Coed and GMC.

Mason maybe could sneak in there, but to me Sycamore has a a better win vs. LE right now. Walsh in the middle and Kress on the outside are both very strong attackers in the GMC, where sometimes that's all it takes to win if you have the right supporting cast.

Carroll having already beaten Badin, Fenwick and Alter puts them in the drivers seat in the GCL Coed. They're very solid all-around with contributors.

Despite the early loss to St X, I think Elder is still my pick to win the GCL South. I think they will beat LS and Moe twice each and beat St X at home. And I think St X drops another match somewhere (probably to Moeller, but I could see LS beating them with a good serving night).

Centerville maybe top D1 in the West currently, but Creek could beat them at home when that one happens.

A lot of parity this year, I think.

I agree. I love this year because of how much more competitive it seems then previous years as there many different teams I feel could compete

Definitely agree. We will have a better idea of these teams after the first round of GCL play, along with Elder playing Walnut Hills.

Any thoughts on Badin vs Fenwick tomorrow? Rematch of the state semifinals from last year. Should be a good one I’m hoping!

I’m taking Badin in 4. Think Halverson, Brockman and Vornhagen are too big of difference makers for Fenwick to deal with. I believe Fenwick is pretty young too

I agree with you. Morris and Gavigan are tough to deal with for Fenwick. I think Even and Dwire are having slept on seasons after watching Badin play.

Badin should have a largely successful year and he’ll be a huge part of that. I fully expect him to be in contention for DII POY
Totally agree. Eli has taken a big step from last season and should carry them to some big wins this year, just need some of the other club kids to step up. Just Not sure anyone is going to beat Carroll in D2 this year.

Well, Fenwick wins in 4. Definitely not what I expected. Have to give Fenwick credit! So far the question in DII looks to be, “Can anyone take down Carroll?”

Throwing this question out on the "way too early predictions" thread, because it is technically a prediction. With May approaching, who are your front runners for D1 and D2 Regional POY in each region?

South D1- Maune/Bianco from Elder, Patterson from Moeller, Wheatley/Tombragel from Walnut
West D1- Culpepper from Creek, Rings from Centerville
East D1- Joe Kolwicz/Bo O'Leary from Thomas, Noah Koknat from Liberty
North D1- Sam Brown/Patrick Maly from Ignatius, Will Gareau/Jacob Esteves from St. Edward

South D2- Halverson from Badin
West D2- Cannon Tucker from Carroll
East D2- Bennison from St. Charles, Cavanaugh from DeSales, Gavin Grover from Olentangy
North D2- Michael Bowler from Brecksville

West D2 you could maybe throw in Reese and Tyler Monnin also from Carroll and Connor Berry from CJ. South D2 I'd throw in Brockman from Badin as well as Hausfeld or Albrinck from LaSalle. Should be Halverson's to lose given his gaudy stats, great efficiency and being a senior. The rest I'd all agree with.

the d1 east has to be joe kolwicz. he runs the show for a team that has a shot to go undefeated and win the region. he is the best setter in the state imo
