Congratulations to Worthington water polo for staging a fabulous week end of water polo. Great weather and wonderful water polo. Over 60 games at various levels of play. I would estimate that there were over 300 players and probably as many or more spectators. The Worthington sponsors should be very proud of the event. Hopefully, they will find ways to continue to grow the event.

Ohio Cup

I thought St Francis's early exit was a bit of a surprise. It was nice to see Thomas getting a big victory. I am wondering if this is another mid-season lull on the part of StFrancis that they will recover from and look strong come championship time. UA's first game with St Charles was a close one that could have gone either way. The second game I thought St Charles was in control, but UA was without their goalie (concussion). St Charles still has not beat Milford so it isn't so easy to say they now become the midseason team to beat. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Ohio Cup was a wonderful tournament to watch! Just sorry I had to leave and go to work on Sunday. Strictly my opinion that the "South" is being dominated by UA & Milford. The team that can spoil things for either of the two appears to be Sycamore if they put it all together at the right time. In the "North" St. Charles is clearly in control of their own destiny, they look to go 2 and out with the first seed to the final 4. The second seed is up for grabs between St. Francis and both Worthington teams. Thomas played well this last weekend. Kilbourne played a very good game against the Chicago Park District team, I didn't see it all but from what I did see Kilbourne has improved a lot. Things are setting up nicely for an exciting end to the season. Good luck to all, hope they all stay healthy and bring their best. Sorry to hear about the UA goal keeper hope he is alright. The back-up keeper must have played well though.

SC beats UA for the third time last night and is 3-0 against them this year.
UA is 2-1 against Milford, but Milford is 2-0 against SC. Just an observation

It just shows that there is no dominant team this year which makes the end of the year tournament all the more interesting. No one is guaranteed a spot in the semifinals. Add St. Francis, both Worthington teams and Sycamore as contenders as well. Any of those teams along with SC, Milford and UA can get to the semifinals. It's a matter of who continues to improve, stays focused and gets hot at the right time. Good luck to everyone. Its nice to see a competitive season. Dominance is only interesting and fun to the team and fans who are dominating...for the rest of us it's just boring. Parity is much more interesting.

Ua Sc

UA was again without their goalie and one position player. It looked to make a pretty big difference. SC should get another shot at Milford this weekend at the Packer Classic. They looked strong at the Ohio Cup, whereas Milford did not fare as well.

Dual matches this week:

Mason at UA

Thursday’s ThisWeek Bexley St. Charles Roundup seems to be at odds with this. It says,

WATER POLO

Sept. 28 — Defeated New Albany 14-8

Oct. 1 — Def. Toledo St. Francis 8-7

Oct. 5 — Played Upper Arlington

Oct. 14, 15 — Regional at Toledo St. Francis. The Cardinals are the top seed.

Of note: The Cardinals were 23-6 overall before Oct. 5

Question: Did UA & SC play or did UA & Mason play? Suspect that UA would prefer Mason who they would likely defeat to a rematch with SC who they have yet to beat. Anyone know which happened and what was the result?

In the South - UA & Milford...a near certainty.

The North is more competitive - it will be between SC, Thomas & St. Francis with Kilbourne having an outside chance. Conventional wisdom has SC & one of the others. But I think SC may get upset so I will go with St. Francis & Thomas. All are capable of moving on. It really is a matter of who stays focused, plays strong defense and has the best goaltending.

Good luck to all!

I can imagine SC getting upset, (after all they did last year) but I can't see them getting upset twice. Which is what it would take to keep them out of States.

UA upset

UA upset by Princeton in early round play. Will they make it back to States from here? All other games so far have gone as expected. SC plays TSF for the North title. Princeton will take on Milford.

Congratulations to St. Charles for repeating as state champ. Here's a link to video highlights of the championship game:

This is the second consecutive senior dominated team for St. Charles to win the state title. It will be interesting to see if they will simply reload again next year or if they will have to rebuild. Two titles doesn't make a dynasty, but it does show that for now St. Charles is the dominant team in Ohio high school water polo.

Not one to toot our own horn, but a team that finishied 1-3 against us isn't "dominant". They won the state title 2 years in a row, yes. But to say they are the dominant team? Not correct.

WOW you really went there?!?!?!

Sounds like sour grapes and a really cheap shot. They came through when it counted. Lost a couple of battles but won the war!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give them their props and grow up "assistant coach" or retire and zip it.
