Walsh Jesuit vs. Archbishop Hoban

The most a team has scored on Hoban so far this year is 12 pts, but Walsh hasn't scored less than 41 yet this year. To me, this is the most compelling part of the game - I really want to see how Hoban's defense handles an attack as strong as Walsh's.

On the other side of the ball, Walsh has given up 20+ a couple of times, and I doubt it will be less for a team of Hoban's caliber.

Final prediction - 38-28 Hoban win. Closer than Pasteur predicts, maybe even close until the end of the game, but ultimately a Hoban win.

To be fair, Bene was a blowout when they got to 20+.

Walsh was up 42-14 when Bene scored their last 2 TD's.

McDowell hung 21 on them in the 1H and WJ went on a 29-0 run in the 2H until McDowell scored late.

I am going off memory here, so I apologize if am missing a few details.

Either way, I agree with your point. This is easily the best offense WJ has seen this year.

First few offensive possessions of the game for WJ will tell the story of the game, in my opinion.

If they have 3 & outs or a few turnovers, it could make for a long night.

If they can string together a few lengthy drives that results in points or flipping the field, that could really keep the moral high and swing mojo in their direction.
You’re underselling the walsh offense.
I hope you mean Triv's old Mentor. They've been pretty pedestrian the last 3 or so years.
yes

yes

Possibly. I just know how hard it is to win against Hoban.

Factor in the mental side and the game being on the road, it could make for a really difficult comeback if they get behind early.

When is the last time WJ beat Hoban? I'd imagine that is wearing on the team & coaching staff.

I could be wrong, but I think 2014 was the last time they beat Hoban.

I think they do need to take advantage of early possessions. Even for good defenses, it can take a few possessions to get used to the pace Walsh likes to play with. Walsh had success early last season, then Hoban's D settled in and made it tough sledding from there. Almost all of Hoban's defensive kids have played them before, but after a week off, it might take them a quarter to get back in stride.

Walsh and Riverside are currently ranked 4th and 5th so I'd hope they could be competitive. But Hoban is Hoban and will be a feat for anyone. They will have to play extremely well, few penalties, and win the to battle. Will be interesting.
I recall Hudson being a 3 seed last year in the playoffs and look what Hoban did to them. IMO, R5 is still Hoban and then everybody else.

Notice who's #1. :p
Take it somewhere else. This is a Hoban-Walsh thread and the poster was talking about this game being a top 10 matchup.

Once again the you try to derail a thread that isn’t about you. Please note the first 4 pages have been nothing but good discussion about the schools involved and their teams.

You guys are truly something else

I am not selling Walshs offense short. They will move the ball and score on Hoban. I just don't think they can score in the 35 to 40 point range which is what imo it will take to beat Hoban. I think Hoban will score over 30 against Walshs defense barring them stopping themselves with turnovers, penalties etc. However, like I said Hoban can play sloppy and turn the ball over. Their last 2 championship teams I think they led the state in penalties. Often though their so prolific they outrun their mistakes and still win.

You're right, Walsh's last win was in 2014.

This rivalry has a history of being streaky. They've played annually since 1974 (w/ 3 playoff games in there); Walsh won all but one from 1974-86, then Hoban took 4 of the next 5; then Walsh won 9 in a row in their halcyon 90's era; then Hoban took 6 of the next 7 (and the one they lost was considered a huge upset; I'd know, I played in that game). And before Hoban's current streak, Walsh won the previous 5.

I don’t think this game will be close at all. Hoban’s defense is just way too strong. I don’t think Hoban is beatable this year. I think they’re that good. I’ve seen them twice this year. I have yet to see a hole or weakness in this team. It’s going to take a whole lot of perfection and big breaks to even stay in the game. And really this goes for any team they play all year. This is not to knock Walsh, I just think Hoban is that good this year

How good is Walsh OL/DL? I mean it's cliche as it sounds the game will be won in the trenches but hopefully Walsh can create some turnovers.

These games are very hard to predict. I need to see Hobans quarterback a few more times to see this teams potential. I've seen betting lines on this game and other high school games. I never knew there were betting lines on high school football games.

Something else to factor in that hasn't been discussed a ton on here....

Hoban's had 2 weeks to prepare for this game. Certainly benefits them.

You're right. Walsh's defense is pretty good and no one is talking about them because the offense scores 40 plus a game. But can the OL and DL hold up? Probably a bit undersized for this one. Must use quickness and counters to move the ball.

Hoban is very good and they maybe the best team and wins it all. The thing is you just never know until teams play the game on the field. A few weeks ago St Eds fans were saying they were unbeatable. Well Massillon proved they weren't, they had to kick a field goal in the last 6 seconds to beat Elder.

Agreed Im slighly convinced the average yappi poster doesnt even like football lol but outside of all that noise it has been a good year.
Mannnnn most of these people on this site don't even know football half of them didn't even probably play football they just on here to troll lol. I hope next season Ohio gets more national recognition

Mentioned previously, but massive storyline will be if Brock Sherman suits up or not. Even if he does, does he play both ways or do they let the stable of RB's tote the rock instead. Also previously mentioned, Walsh defense IS improved this season, but has gone under the radar. They will certainly have a size disadvantage and must rotate effectively to maintain stopping the run. Cant give up the big plays. Don't give up any big kick returns! Keep the game close within a respectable amount to continue to build off of and hopefully see them again. Stay healthy. The big picture is much more important.
