The Cleveland Browns to the Burbs?????

I remember that because I was there. Also that team sucked. When you have talent it is an advantage which barring injury we'll have this year.

Why aren't Green Bay fans crying? They play well into winter many years. Why aren't Steeler fans crying? Buffalo fans? Denver fans? NE fans?

When the heck did this fan base turn into the pansy tea sipping Niners fans or fair weather Miami fans? The game is made to be played in the elements period. It's not basketball.

Oh we'll get all these events...no we won't. Super Bowl? Nobody wants to be in Cleveland in February. Final 4? March/April is barely better than Feb most years. We've got Blossom and the Fieldhouse for concerts.

Who wants to be stuck inside on a beautiful fall day? And how many games have honestly been that cold. I remember looking at the schedule going into last season and seeing a late December night game thinking whoever made this schedule has never been to Cleveland. And it ended up being like 40 degrees...if you don't know how to dress appropriately for a couple hours in that relatively mild air the game will be on your TV.
This development goes beyond football and weather. And the 2 idiot govts downtown can't see beyond their own corrupt @sses

Correct. Haslim’s will probably be forced to stay at the current stadium through the lease agreement (‘28) and will pay for most if not all of the new stadium in Brook Park. Hopefully Jimmy tells Cleveland’s govt heads to shove that dump of a stadium up their liberal butts. Also I’m willing to bet that nothing ever happens on that water front

There’s so many incorrect statements in this that I don’t know where to start. First off they are getting a Super Bowl. Haslim would have that agreement in place with the nfl before the stadium talk began. Second, basketball is played indoors. The city has zero baring. Indy will host the final 4 in 26 and 29. Detroit host in ‘27. Like I told you before. If you don’t want to sit indoors to watch a game go sit on your porch and watch it in your phone

If you don't want to watch in an outdoor stadium watch at home.

The SB is a week long event, who wants to spend a week in Cleveland in February if they don't have to. Even if they did get one that would be it, one. The stadium has to last 30-40 years. 1 Super Bowl isn't worth it. You'll be watching from home like the rest of us anyway, doesn't matter if its in Cleveland or LA.

Of course the city matters when awarding events.

He's not paying for the stadium on his own.

Getting that one Super Bowl definitely matters. You can’t put a price on the positive exposure the city/area gets from hosting a big event. Even more importantly, it opens the door to hosting other big events because you’ve shown you can pull off hosting a Super Bowl successfully. That’s where you get tossed in that rotation of cities that get Final 4s, regionals and even political conventions. You have to look at the big picture and not just the myopic view of just Browns games.

I realize that what we want does not factor in the decision, and I know I am in the minority, but...

Selfishly I would prefer an open air stadium in Brook Park. BP is much more accessible to us Browns Backers in the Columbus suburbs. And football needs to be played outdoors, and you get away from the gale force winds coming off the lake.. Just my 2 cents...

Also, want to give a tip of the cap to the Haslams and the Browns. Briggs HS is a Columbus City League school in a not so good neighborhood. They have not been able to afford new helmets in over a decade. Yesterday I saw on the news that the Browns gave them 80 new helmets. Kudos.

Plus, for those who say nobody wants to come to CLE for a big event, most who balk at the idea of not wanting to visit the area or move to the area have never been to the area and almost always come away with a positive impression. So it’s always valuable to expose the area to as many people as possible. Getting the big events helps. Plus, who is to say the Brook Park project and the city actually getting off its arse and truly developing the lakefront can’t lead to a golden age renaissance of CLE and the area? You have to be bold to reinvent yourself.

I prefer football outdoors too, but for the kind of money being sunk into this new stadium project an indoor facility is the only option that makes sense.

And Haslem better hope the Browns don’t significantly slip this year, and I fear they will, because they need all of the fan momentum they can get to get the public to eat the cost of this dome, so they need Browns Fever running rampant.

It costs too much money. Haslem fleecing the public to line his pockets is unconscionable. SoFi stadium which is what this is often compared to was privately funded. Haslem isn't hurting, he got a ridiculous check for selling Pilot J, he can sell his stake in the Bucks and Crew...let him finance this monstrosity.

The dude who owns SoFi married into the Walton fortune. Haslem is certainly not poor, but I’m not sure he’s in the same monetary stratosphere. But yes, I expect a significant chunk of the project’s money to come from him.

And putting 1 billion into a almost 30 year old stadium makes sense?

They've already done the political convention. They've done NCAA tournament games. A one off brings exposure for about 2 seconds and then the stadium sits there for 40 years as people go Cleveland, why go there when LA, New Orleans, Tampa/Miami, Dallas etc can host. They'll go back to NY before they'd do Cleveland. They need a flashy city to host the biggest event of the year, again the SB is more than the game, that ain't Cleveland.

Why don't I see Buffalo fans going hey we could get a SB? NE fans, Pittsburgh fans, Denver fans Green Bay fans etc. 90% of people couldn't afford to go anyway, I can watch the game on TV from LA just as easily as Cleveland.

We'll see how much it actually needs and what is just Jimmy's wishlist but yeah. That isn't old in stadium years. No one is suggesting tearing down Lambeau and it dates back to the 50s. Arrowhead has been around since the 70s and I believe the recent stadium issue on the ballot there was for renovation, not a new stadium. Progressive field and Rocket Mortgage are older and no one is suggesting tearing them down for new stadiums.

You see Cleveland as static. I don’t. I do understand that the area is stuck in the past more than anywhere I’ve ever been, which is why it’s always been such a battle to get things done in CLE, so when forward thinking occurs that can contribute to growing CLE and the metro, in the same way Midwest metros like Indy, MSP and Cbus have exploded, I’m all for it. Cleveland needs to shake things up if it is to breakout of this shrinking trend and this project can be part of it.

Not having a dome is ridiculous. We're past the point of trying to play "old fashioned football".. Any extreme weather will are a postponement. We'll never see a Bills 8-0 game again.

But not having a dome immediately limits what and how many events the stadium can host.

The biggest mistake going into 99 was a giant outdoor stadium. 10 games, a concert or two, and maybe a rare high school or college game. Such a waste of resources. The only reason to ever build the Browns another stadium or seriously renovate the current stadium is to bring in more major events. NCAA March madness events, Super Bowl, and use it year round as an open floor plan convention facility.

Spending billions or even hundreds of millions for a handful of events a year is a total waste and should fail.
The only reason a game gets postponed is road conditions. A dome has nothing to do with that.
