Solon Comet Classic Predictions

Maple Stang- Your kidding right? Assad placed at Super 32's and lost to Damian Cruz by 2 points over the summer. Assad is definitely the better wrestler. Rix will beat Thompson in the semi's anyways.

Thompson over Assad 5-3. Don't ever question me again. If you would like to know anything else, just ask.

 this is rather funny. He disagrees with Boro's prediction at 103 and Boro pretty much retaliated with a 5th grade "your an sweetie" response. However Stang was right on the money and lets Boro know it. But Boro still wants to act like a 5th grader.

He makes 1 predicition and he knows wrestling? Your kidding right? I guarantee if they wrestle again Assad wins, funny how he had his tail between his legs until now when Thompson wins

Boro, thanks for the updates, much appreciated.

I gotta believe if Clay is at full strength they win this. But the world does not revolve around 'ifs and buts'.

Congrats to all winners, especially Screptock and Kohler. :)

Boro,Now you are losing credibility.Just admit the guy got it right and move on.For you to guarantee a win next time is childish. What if he loses again will you guarantee best 3 out of 5.

I disagree, lets say Felipe wrestle 152, Kiefer from Chanel still takes 2nd and Felipe wins it, he would only get them around 25 and Amenta would of finished top 3 so add another 20-25. Still comes up short I think. And if you want to get technical, Chanel was missing Tschantz and Collier, Collier would beat Kohler most likely in the finals and Tschantz would of been 3rd or 4th IMO

Boro Fan,

I bet Assad loses at least two more times. While he is a great wrestler in his own right I don’t believe he will beat Tomasello. I’m answering this way because you said he won’t loose again..

Congrats to Kyle Swan for your second Comet Classic Title and to all Strongsville and Ohio Falcons wrestlers... way to start of the year. Lets keep it going

Coach Des Forges

Boro Fan,

Your forgetting Kish from clay too,he would have placed top 4 and gave Clay more points. I think they could have won this with these 3 starters in the lineup, but woulda coulda doesnt count. Congrats to Clay for a good showing with less than a full lineup.

I was referring to if he wrestles Thompson again, I think Tomasello will beat him as well, they will meet most likely all 3 weekends in the post season in the finals. It will be much closer than their match last year at sectionals when Tomasello won by a major decision

But like I said, Add in Tschantz and Collier who were both out for Chanel and then Chanel wins...Either way Chanel got it done and I was hoping to see Clay at full strength along with Chanel, Chanel hasn't been challenged in the last two years, next year will be a different story

edsfan1- he won't lose again so it doesn't matter

Because he does not wrestle anyone else with ability? Now you are sounding dumb.Last time I checked he was not David Taylor.Or should we put this response next to your many Kovach will be the state champ responses

My Overall Take On The Tournament by Weight:

103- Very weak without Rix (SVSM) in the tournament, impressed by Taton (Lake Catholic) and Gallagher (Will.South).
Finals Match- Thompson had a game plan that was effective to beat Assad, not surprising since they've wrestled about 50 times over their life span. Thompson is a long lanky 103 just like his step brother Kevin Hardy. Both of these guys will be higher placers in Columbus and this was a good opening match to the night.

112- My biggest disappointment was Fee from Lake Catholic, Not sure if he is too small at 112 or what, I expected him to finish 3rd atleast and make a match vs Screptock.
Finals Match- Screptock (Clay) took it to Ellis (Riverside), Ellis had a great tournament, surprising many, including myself. Screptock on the other hand was the favorite IMO and definitely took care of business.

119- I was very impressed with Coates (LC) performance, wrestled tough all weekend. Walter Gibson (SVSM) will be a great wrestler, especially with the coach he has in his corner and the kids around him in the room.
Finals Match- Vinas (Twinsburg) and Pizzuto (J-M) seemed just about even, I wish their wouldn't have been a double caution to decide the match but rules are rules and Vinas won.

125- Scholtz from Strongsville seemed to start where he left off from districts last year, very impressive except for the semi's match vs. Smith (Kenston)
Finals Match- Although I though the 135 match should of been the feature match, This was still a good one, Labry (Twinsburg) isn't anything flashy, just a solid wrestler. Smith came out pushing the pace and offense, had Labry on his back with a headlock that I thought he had a 2 count on but after that Labry took over and ended up pinning Smith.

130- Jordan Victor (Mentor) had the best tournament out of anyone IMO, he beat Wiseman (J-M), Tarulli (Orange) who is very tough, SP Skyler Terrell (Park) and then the tough Skonieczny in the finals. All impressive big wins in the opening week of the season. I was a little disappointed in Wiseman's performance but he seemed to be hobbled by injuries, It's only the opening weekend and I expect him to get it together by Brecksville, I'm really high on the kid because when he's on, HE'S ON!!
Finals Match- Victor controlled the entire match vs. Skonieczny (SVSM). Skonieczny will be impressive this year as a freshman, I think he might be a little small for 130 but yet he was still winning so maybe he's fine. Again with him have the coaching staff he does he will get great FAST!

135- I was very impressed with Matacic (J-M), I know he's a state champ but not many people believe in him, including myself but after this weekend I'm a believer. I was impressed with his big win in the semi's and the final's match was even bigger.
Finals Match- Matacic controlled the first 5 minutes or so vs. Collica (Solon), seemed like Matacic either ran out of gas or he was just playing defense for the last minute but yet held onto the lead and wrestled smart.

140- This was the most wide open weight class going in, Blumenthal (Twinsburg) had a big win over Howes (PN) in the quarters but then Deimert (Riverside) came out of nowhere to beat Blumenthal in the semi's. Kohler came out of the bottom as expected, I think all 4 of these kids will contend to make it columbus and possibly place down there
Finals Match- Kohler took it to Demiert, rather a boring match if you weren't from Clay.

145- Very week weight after Orrill (Chanel) but Orrill looked very impressive, he had 10 takedowns in the semi's match and rambled off about 3 in about 20 seconds in the finals.
Finals- Orrill controlled the entire match, looked very impressive to say the least. Very emoitional post-match for anyone who was there.

152- Another weak weight that I thought Kiefer (Chanel) would run away with. I was impressed with Hendershot (Will.S)
Finals Match- Kiefer didn't look anything like himself, Hendershot wrestled smart and wrestled to have the best shot to win, which is what ytou have to do when you're the underdog against a state ranked kid.

160- Pretty decent weight with the top 4 seeds have a decent chance of reaching Columbus this year.
Finals Match- Walters (Chanel) wrestled maybe the worst match I've seen him wrestle in about two years, he looked sloppy to say the least. Swan (Strongsville) capitalized on almost every mistake Walters made and Swan wrestled smart. Not sure if he even took a shot but it wasn't needed because Walters was giving him opportunities to score.

171- Porter (Chanel) gave Baker (Twinsburg) a good match in the semi's, only losing by 1. Cloyne (Clay) cleared out the bottom half with ease IMO.
Finals Match- Baker got a takedown in the last 13 seconds to take the lead. Cloyne wrestled tough and I expect both to be down at 160 by sectionals and we might see Cloyne down at 160 this weekend for Ironman.

189- A rather weak weight class, I was impressed with Yurko (Nordonia) in his semi's match vs Braun (Kenston), Braun was a SQ last year and Yurko was beating him by about 10 before he pinned him.
Finals Match- Schafer (Chanel) beat up on Yurko with ease, Everything Yurko tried, Schafer countered with his funk, it will be very hard to beat Schafer this year if you try to "Out Funk" him.

215- Very weak after the top two seeds.
Finals Match- I love watching 215's who move like 171's, this was the case here. Stone (SVSM) will meet with Smith (Chanel) and few more times this year and I expect each one to be just as good, I think Smith will get a win atleast once when they meet, he has closed the gap against Stone who pinned him twice last year.

HVY- Pavlik (Ravenna) had a close match with Elflien (PN) in the semi's. Pavlik got a takedown with about 40 seconds to go to tie it and then turned him and pinned him with 16 seconds left. Everett (GO) is BIG to say the least, I think he's the same kid from Fairless but I'm not sure, He had an impressive win over Lugo in the first round, I have NO CLUE why they wrestled first round, both kids should have been seeded. Gray (Clay) was also very tough.
Finals Match- Everett ended up pinning Pavlik in the finals, he had a 3-0 lead so it was one of those matches when the HVY catches him and pins him, THAT HAPPENS ALOT but that wasn't the case. I read on here someone though Everett was a year away from being a state recognized HVY, I think after this weekends performance, he is a SQ atleast this year and probably a top 5 finished next year.

If you're gonna carry 2 plus varsity squads, "not being full strength", should not be an excuse. Take your licks and move forward, stay classy.

edsfan1- I said if he wrestles Thompson again, which I don't think they do this year so most likely next year.

I stated that Hardy was Thompsons step brother, I take that back, I'm pretty sure they're half brothers...

Thompson is a great wrestler, no doubting that. But Assad is a fantastic wrestler! When I was at Super32 a couple weeks back i got to talk with him and he has been working all summer long getting 3x's better than he used to be. Thompson on the other hand really hasn't been working as much to get better.
yes, he had a terrific win over Rix but thing is, if we put him on the mat with Cruz, he will be used as a mop for the mat! Put Asssad in there again and I would say Assad will probably win. So, overall, Assad will beat Thompson, not saying destroy him but maybe a 6-4 or 7-3 victory.

WRONG!

Have better things to do then spend my whole day on here. I'll bet I've forgotten more then you know. Hardware to back it up too! Do you?
