Ryan Day

The last thing OSU needs is a PRO guy similar to Day. Day will excel as an OC in the NFL but does not check the box when it comes to motivating kids, understanding the entire picture (little things, defense & special teams).

There are all kinds of existing college HCs out there who are more qualified than Day. cjb's lists them.
Was with you until the end. I don’t think a single one is a better choice than Day. Dabo has a better resume but he refuses to utilize the portal at all and won’t utilize the full strength of NIL.

Sean has HC experience at the highest level, Ryan had 0 HC experience. Not an apples to apples comparison in the slightest.

The guy that’s never recruited a day in his life? Bring Urban and Saban on as recruiting experts to supplement his zero experience in that category and I might be able to get on board.
Maybe his recruiting wouldn’t be as good as Ryan’s but let’s be real here. He’s still a young guy, has won a Super Bowl, and he’s played in college. He would be more than fine on the trail and kids would want to play for him.

Remember now, he would be MUCH better than Ryan at getting the elite assistants in here. Something Ryan has just been awful at and has essentially destroyed the program.

How do we know that? He’s never been a HC at the college level and coaches are less likely to coach in college than the NFL now more than ever in the history of the sport.

I would be extremely leery of anyone coming from the NFL, especially guys without any college experience.

McVay would be in the extreme minority that I could see possibly succeeding due to personality and style, but he’d have to have the connections to build the staff and infrastructure with people that can recruit and that know college ball.

Also all of his connections are in the NFL. Id argue being able to bring in quality college assistants/coordinators is just a big of a question mark as recruiting for McVay.
Building a championship level infrastructure IMO would be by far the most important factor if or when they eventually replace Day.

Has to be a guy that pulls and retains high-end assistants and support staff, I.e. Urban showing up in Columbus and hauling Marotti and Pantoni along with him, along with cutting and replacing the weak links in the infrastructure.

I can't believe this quote sat here and nobody called you on this. Straight BS. Day is far from perfect but the program is far from destroyed. My god, take some meds or something. You are melting down.

Program is looked at as a joke nationally with its soft culture that cannot win the big games and are Michigans bit**. It has been destroyed

Destroyed would be losing 3-4 games a year and actually losing to genuinely inferior teams.

He may not be able to elevate to that top tier, but I’m not sure he can actually sink low enough to lose like that. He’s literally been perfect in the win/loss column against genuinely inferior competition. Until or unless the money flowing from the NIL spigot is cut off, he may just go 10-2 or 11-1 every year while batting a miserable percentage against highly ranked opponents.

OK. We will check back with you if/when this team beats Oregon in Indy and earns the B10 bye in the playoffs. Is it possible to restore a "destroyed" program in just a few weeks? We are about to find out I guess. My money is on yes.

If it happens, I'm guessing you will give the HC zero credit.

Please do and I would gladly eat crow, it only took a 20 million dollar roster and all for Ryan Day to win a big game at that point.

Bottom line. There’s only one current coach that is getting hired in 2024 over Ryan Day without argument. That’s Kirby Smart. The only coach that you would argue hiring over Day is Dan Lanning. That’s it. Thats the list. You aren’t getting anyone better than Day at Ohio St unless you get an NFL coach

If he can’t beat Michigan this year, I would understand firing him. Short of that, you’re not going to find anyone better. Fickell isn’t exactly killing it at Wisconsin and Urban is never coming back, just accept it.

Last year I thought if Day left for the NFL I would only want DeBoer or Lanning to replace him. Bama got DeBoer, and he won’t lose many games when he gets his own players all through the roster, so that only leaves Lanning now. But I don’t think it would be easy for him to leave the Nike bottomless money pit behind.

So the best Ohio State can do is a soft coach that has no control of his staff and lacks player development. Lol.

Urban? He could not coach in the current environment - he is too old-school, like Saban. Players have all the flexibility and power now, lots of guys would run out the portal as soon as Urban went hard-a___z on them.

Exactly. People act like things are well with Day now when most of his teams have been total failures even with top 4 composite talent each season. A 10 year old could coach this team to 8 wins. Things aren’t working out now
