Perry Softball

"Boardman probably would have lost even with their best on the field!" I assume you are basing this on Perry winning while being "no-hitted" the first time around, and winning on a "fluke" the second time around? I will be very interested to see who wins next year between these two teams. I believe that both teams have the majority of their main players coming back. Many in the Youngstown area believe that Boardman underachieved this year. The injury to their top pitcher early on obviously didn't get them off to the start they wanted both physically and mentally as a team.

You say that is was fluke or whatever still doesn't change the record Perry 3-0 against Boardman this year. Bottom line is great teams find a way to win and Perry is a great team.

Mudcat- I respectfully disagree about travel being the only way to a scholarship. I know all the reasons and the debate between high school and travel but wouldn't balancing school and playing during the week be a better indicator of how a student-athlete will handle the rigors of college? Also, I am biased but if a college coach in and around the state know you play Federal League...then they know you play top notch teams.

As for Boardman, yes I think they underacheived...they do have a very talented team coming back but they have a very difficult time winning big games (hoover, perry comes to mind). I think they just wanted their season over and if they played their best and got beat again...big IF...I know. I think that would send them into the off-season with alot of doubt about who they are as a team.

I could be way off on both statements...just my opinion.

Perry hardly returns the 'majority' of their main players... they had what 7 seniors? 5 of which were key cogs at least

Didn't want to do this, but....

FLUKE!?!?........................

2008 - Regular Season Game 1, Perry 2, Boardman -0-
Regular Season Game 2, Perry 8, Boardman 1

2009 - Regular Season Game 1, Perry 4, Boardman -0-
Regular Season Game 2, Perry 3, Boardman 1

Winter League (09-10) Championship Game

** Perry 9, Boardman -0-

2010 - Regular Season Game 1, Perry 1, Boardman -0-
Regular Season Game 2, Perry 12, Boardman -0-

REGIONAL FINALS PERRY 3, BOARDMAN 2

State Semi's PERRY 5 Holland-Springfield -0-

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME PERRY 10 GROVE CITY -0-

A perfect 8-0 record against Boardman over the past 3 years!

A State Championship without giving up a run and scoring 15!!

I'm not seeing where a Perry win in the Regional Finals is a "fluke". Perry may have gotten an extra baserunner because of a "fluke", but there were three other hits that inning. I wouldn't say any of those were "flukes", especially the bases-clearing double to the fence!! Please.... give credit where credit is due!!

I am not going to debate this any farther than this post. What happened in previous years has no bearing on my opinion and what transpired in the games between the two teams this year. Perry won both meaningful games and had something like one hit in thirteen innings. The miscommunication/sun in your eyes play or what ever you want to call it, in my opinion, mentally rattled the pitcher and Boardman team and obviously inspired Perry. Boardman gaffed and Perry took advantage of both games. They deserve credit for doing so. To say that they were quite fortunate would be an understatement in my opinion.

As far as I am concerned it doesn't matter who did what and when. The Perry girls came out and played every game not matter who was on the mound or in the field. I did not hear Hoover complaining when they did not face Boardman's #1 the first game they played. When Perry made mistakes, they did not hang their head and give up. They played the game for 7 innings! THEY ARE THE DIV I STATE CHAMPS! No one should or could take that away from them!

You want to say they were lucky or fortunate, whatever. The difference in the first 2 games is one team could handle the pressure and other team couldn’t.

I don't blame Boardman for releasing their players to play travel ball. To have the girls wait to play a make up game that means nothing to them is not an option.

Hopefully, both schools learned a lesson from this. As, I recall, this game has been rescheduled twice, once by each team. We all know both schools did not want to play the other for their own reasons. Next time, play the game regardless, and don't put the girls in this position.

Johnny,

With the Federeal League title on the line even though Boardamn was not in the chase, should have produced a better representation of their starting 9 and effort. They had a responsibility as a league member to give thier best effort, and this they failed to do.

No based on the fact that they quit. Whether they showed up or not, they were done. That and the fact that Perry is/was a better team.

Lets see Boardman play JV squad after season, 2 yrs ago Boardman sends JV wrestling team to Perry for a varsity dual. Can't wait for football season!

As Boardman benifited with two runs on mistakes made by Perry. The difference is that Perry did not melt down once a mistake was made. If you belong in the BIG SHOW than you cannot melt under pressure. I have seen it three times from Boardman this year--Twice against Perry and once against Hoover. The mental part of the game always out weighs the physical part.

crrunner,

Even if the girls were not released, I'm guessing the results would have been the same. None of the girls from Boardman had anything to play for in that game, they would rather move on to their travel teams.

My point is, both teams failed to get that game in when they had the chance. The weather was great both times it was rescheduled. If you don't have all of your girls, play with what you have. If you have to play the team later in the week for regionals, don't throw your ace. Just get the game in. Now everyone wants to bash the girls for going to their travel teams. It's not fair to the girls. When you lose the biggest game of your season, you should not have to wait around for a make up game. The girls are ready to move on.

Quit blaming the girls. Both coaches need to be held accountable for this situation.

I believe only one of the runs was unearned. The other was scored on back-to-back doubles. The unearned run was a throwing error to 1B with runner scoring from 3B. You are correct about the melt-down though.
