I think you’re probably right. I know one thing you could go and order of what the kids say because everybody I’ve talked to said Orville Field was horrible probably the worst cushion, etc. so it makes sense that they may have had the oldest field until they replaced this year. That is a great question. You might be onto something there.did Timken have at turf field before any other in the league?
PACtion™
When I was digging to see if I had this order right I found an article that mentioned Northwest was saving something like $25,000 annually on maintenance of the field and were going to roll that money over into a fund to replace the turf in 10 years or so. Ironically it's the current PAC commissioner Gary Woods being quoted in that article. Have the Northwest Native Americans made good on Gary's word?I think you’re probably right. Much of media these days is consultant driven and it all depends on consultant strategies, which tend to be very proprietary in nature, and specific research (which the consultants tend to manipulate to match their proprietary strategies). This is really crazy, but some consultants are pushing doing away with sports at local TV stations because their "research" shows it's not an audience driver. Others say expand local sports because it's one of the primary differentiators. Personally, after spending 40 years in the broadcasting business, I think it's a differentiator and can add to a station's news ratings, and local high school coverage done right can be a big reason why.Just a quick ramble....we all hear about how much local media has been "cut" and that's true. However, there is a priority issue IMO.
Scan the Facebook pages of your local Gannett or other media outlets and you'll see an overwhelming amount of information about the NFL but a far, far, far reduced amount of high school coverage.
BUT.....IMO.....those still on the payroll at the media outlets could pick up a cell phone and text or call coaches for scrimmage reports.
It's just not a priority to these media outlets. They want to tell you stories like "the Minnesota Vikings think Myles Garrett is unworldly talented after practicing against him." Like we didn't already know Garrett is talented. TELL US SOMETHING NEW or better yet PUT MORE FOCUS ON YOUR LOCAL HS SPORTS and less on the NFL.
And I love the NFL. Do you smell what the rock is cookin?
This needs to be in the next Winter Olympics. You want PACtion to explode bring this to the masses. Ice football, No turf, No grass. Solid Ice tuffness. The Slaw would thrive. Rule #1 You must have German announcer's
Defer to your professional opinion, but can tell you that if she is home on a Friday night, the Mrs will turn on Fox8's Friday Night Touchdown even if I'm not there. Right. When I worked in Cleveland from 2011 to 2015, all of the stations were doing Friday football coverage right, and Channel 8 was probably doing it best. I haven't seen much Cleveland Friday Night coverage lately, but I hear Channel 8 still does it the right way. That's what I mean about being a differentiator. Eight is the market leader and they use that coverage to enhance those ratings.Defer to your professional opinion, but can tell you that if she is home on a Friday night, the Mrs will turn on Fox8's Friday Night Touchdown even if I'm not there. I worked for Gannett at their DC station before they split the print and broadcast operations into two different companies. Broadcast is now called "Tegna". Channel 3 is owned by Tegna. Gannett's biggest revenue driver back then were its TV stations and USA Today. For decades the company was led by people out of the News Division, and the journalism done there was top notch. That changed in 2000 when for the first time, a non-journalist took the helm. It was all downhill from there. The Gannett-Gatehouse merger really did in local news coverage for Gannett. They run their operation like a private equity investment, looking to maximize profit at the expense of the business. They don't know their markets. They don't care to know their markets. It's a one size fits all approach based on what a newspaper consultant has come up with that worked in a few markets. My guess is that if they ever figured out the real estate their operations sit on is more valuable than the news product they're producing, you'd see them shutdown all operations and go into the real estate business. On TV no question I think you're correct.
You'd think the Gannett buffoons would understand that in print.....but they're too busy with "the agenda" to care. If you think about it, Gannett covers Ohio just as you'd expect an East Coast person with NO knowledge of Ohio to cover it. Which is, of course, what Gannett is operated by a NYC board of directors and a corporate office near DC.
I realize staffing might be down to the last people standing but even they can pick up a cell phone and ask for a scrimmage result. It's just not a priority to Gannett.

I think we got what we got, but if I had to venture a guess, you might see some growth out of the Northwest or Fairless camps. I have to go to the East side of PittsburghFairless at Sandy Valley. Why? Because if two Silent Flock fans show up here instead of the occasional one fan that's a dramatic increase in #PACtion presence.
On a more serious level Benedictine is a "name" old thyme Stark County fans know as an opponent. If Canton South beats them up north except a mass influx of Red Ash Rowdies posting Wildcat Poochierific memes from Cleveland Avenue South.
If Orrville finally gets one against Wooster you might see some excitement from Mo's Marauders.
Norton has been pretty good the last couple of years. If John Robinson DeMarco wins against the other neighboring Panther school that's a good win for them.
Tuslaw is awash in BellStores cash and mini van moms. Smithville will have a meltdown on the WCAL thread when The Slaw unleashes the Broc Dial scowl.
CVCA just needs to make sure Mike Hall, Junior, is nowhere near the visitor stands when the Royals go to Streetsboro.
Coventry is in a major rebuilding project and so is Manchester. So I'd say that game will move #PACtion due to strong fanbases of both teams but on the field I don't believe we'll learn much.
West Holmes losing at Triway would be a big statement for the Titans to begin the season.
