One of the dirtiest plays I've ever seen

This post has nothing to do with Elder. Please stop mentioning them.

This was an extremely dirty play. And because the officials blew the call, a Moeller kid will now sit two games for talking back to #33 because he was still in the game.

The “adults” in this situation handled it poorly. Starting with the officials and then the St X coach. Then you add a one half suspension to it and it is a real joke.

#33 should have been writing a letter of apology and sitting a “few” games for that dirty play. Their is no place for that in high school sports. That could have been a great teaching moment for the entire St X team.

OHsaa will not re-officiate the call, but they can look at video and determine if kids came off the bench. I saw at least one. I would assume their will be more suspensions for Moeller.

Since the officials and the St X staff did not handle this with any authority, it could get ugly. If #33 drives to the hoop at Moeller, what do you think is going to happen? He should get laid out and the Moeller coach should clap and leave the kid in the game. That is exactly how St X handled it.

Don't have a dog in the fight but here's my take. You have to remember these are kids. The St. X player made a bad choice. He should have been ejected but he wasn't so that's on the refs. The Moe player who shoved him should have been T up. The St. X coach should have took his player out for at least a while. Emotions run high in a rivalry game and kids are kids. Adults need to be the level headed ones. Some things are more important than winning a high school game.

By far short of dirtiest play I've ever seen.

Intentional to be sure. As a small division fan with zero connection to either side, I would say half a game suspension would seem fair to me, though I could also see a couple game suspension being in the fair range as well.

Ive seen a kid fall on his head from a play like that I dont think the people saying thats not extremely dirty realize how little control of his body the Moeller kid is when he gets ready to take off. And on the top just a half game suspension? Thats a sick joke

Fleming deserves a pass because of his age. I’ll bet he is already regretting how he handled it, and if not, he will soon.
Agree...........wisdom will hopefully come soon. I realize there are forces pushing him in many directions at a school like X, but he MUST use his first year/season to set the template/expectations for HIS program. I wish him good luck...........X is a goldmine of talent (and challenges).

I've been at an Elder game where a kid did something similar to Jackson Hayes when Jackson went up for a dunk. Almost fell on his head. His dad had to come out of the stands because it looked real bad. There's no place for that type of crap in the game.

But your post wasn't for discussion, it was, just as you mentioned, for fanning the flames. Typical hypocritical stance from you. You always have to have it both ways. Entitled.

My beef with Elder has never been about the kids or the coaches (both are great). It's entitled homers like you who can't move on from high school as grown men.
I would have thrown punches if my teammate got that shove in the back. It was definitely dirty, just a sour grapes after a turnover on a must have possession. I’ve seen that same thing a hundred times without the bleachers there, and it’s always dirty.
I would also agree with Trey that Purple Reign loves advertising anything negative or demeaning against a school competing against Elder for enrollment, he has done it countless times. Him and his holy buddies have been doing it for years, the funniest was when he shamed the Cov Cath kid years ago before getting the facts.
He is probably in the front row at church right now telling everyone how holy he is

Sit the player for the entire game Saturday. He deserved a suspension. Just 1st half is a slap on wrist. The entire game in street clothes is a much better look.

Intentional foul, but not a flagrant (that play happens alot in basketball, especially at the younger levels). I'm not familiar with that gym, but there seems to be very little room along that baseline (as opposed to a wall with some padding).

Apologies to JElder - thought this was purplereign responding. Had the wrong poster.

X player should have been ejected. But quit making excuses for the Moeller kids. Rule is pretty cut and dry. You leave the bench you sit 2 games. You get 2 T’s, you sit 2 games. They knew the rule ahead of time. If they have to sit it’s their own fault.

Amen.

Ya, amazing how P Reign didn't run to the main board and post a few years ago, when a certain school made national news with their cheering section garbage.

It was also the biggest St X parent there is, which makes it even funnier.
Why did he try to attack Goedde? What was the situation?

X won and seemingly taunted the LaSalle parents (according to some on here) - did something happen before that during the game?

Bad? Yes, very. The dirtiest play I've ever seen? That's a stretch.
In all fairness, he said it was the dirtiest he'd ever seen.

Worst I saw was a player intentionally undercut while airborne on a dunk attempt. Was sent pinwheeling to the floor. Lots of blood, a broken arm and broken jaw.

Moeller plays Mentor today. It will be interesting to see which Moeller players are out. Mason definitely will be because he was ejected, but some definitely left the bench too and should be out as well.

Intentional two handed pushes in the back against an offensive player are rare.

Intent to injure is not the only component needed for a flagrant foul.

It may be violent or excessive...... which is exactly, in my opinion happened in this play.

Rare?

It's certainly not happening every game, but we've all been to games where we've seen this. It happens periodically, but wouldn't consider it rare.
There is a difference between two-hand shoving a guy in the post and doing the same on a breakaway. On a breakaway, it’s a dirty play. You are not going for the ball and you are also using the offensive player’s momentum to send him flying. It’s dangerous and leads to injuries and should be penalized accordingly. A flagrant call and an ejection would have been correct. Then you can say at the next Moeller-X game that the punishment was appropriate and any attempt at retribution will be an automatic ejection.

I agree. It's dangerous, it's dirty, it leads to injuries. I agree he should have been kicked out and maybe even suspended a game.

But again, we've all seen this type of play before.

At what point during any of this discussion have I made an excuse for a Moeller player? The answer is never.

I said it sucks for Moeller, the program, that they are now going to have to play without a few of their players. That is true. They will be minus players because #33 decided to start all of this with a 2 handed shove to the back of a player going, or all ready, airborne.

The Moeller players are responsible for their actions after the push. They deserve what punishment they get. That does not excuse #33, St X, the officials or the St X coach for their involvement, or lack of urgency, in the matter.

I am by no means a Moeller fan. This might be the first time in my lifetime I have ever defended Moeller for anything. But this was an egregious play and response by St X. I am more upset about the “adults” in the situation. And after an entire day to watch the video, consult with the AD, talk to #33, talk to the entire staff, and talk his dad, the punishment was to sit 2 quarters. That is a disgrace.
