Ohsaa

Not really.
While prayers are with him and the family there was no one else willing and capable to run a scoreboard?

Not one person was blaming the individual who was to run it.....but instead the school who hosted it

At times when we host and also have a tourny game we need an alternate to run the board as the normal old timer goes to.the games.
I think the point they are trying to make is that, since the normal guy was supposed to do it they didn't have an alternate scheduled or present.

Voice---our State Champs Mason Comets were playing in Oxford vs Moeller at the same time as hosting the D2 final at Mason--our AD did a great job asking folks to run concessions, take tickets, do the PA, do the scoreboard (all who would've enjoyed watching Michael Bilo no-hit Moeller) while Mason was playing Moeller-----the problem arose when someone almost died. Our Mason AD was considering moving the game to 1:00 on Friday so workers could go to Oxford, but didn't want Alder to make the quick turnaround trip after finishing on Thursday at 7:45. The workers chose to help have a good 2-0 regional final with the staff we had available.

So much goes into deciding what is best --- no one had life threatening emergency on the bingo card.

Good Lord.....

"someone almost died"

And the best you can do is complain about a scoreboard?

Did you find out 15 minutes prior that he wasn't coming?

he is the only one the press box?

Mason fumbled this situation and it is OK to admit it.

I've said multiple times that Mason does a good job running the tourney however this illustrates its just not a good venue. I knew the Comets were playing in the regional and have the past few seasons. For the size of the crowd and the magnitude of the game it just doesn't work. Sorry to hear about the young man.

FWIW-the score is minimal on the importance of a the board. Inning, balls/strikes and outs are kind of important.

Game workers are required to be paid there is just not a set amount. It's in the tournament managers guide you get. I think the current suggested rate is $25-30 per game.
I have announced softball and baseball tournament games at my school and $30 is what I received.
