OHSAA looking at Massillon transfer app

High School Football is the new college football.
College Football is the new pro football,
Pro Football seems like the most even playing field these days.

If these delays are not due to any known or suspected problem or an error by the schools or families then what an incredible disservice by OHSAA to suspend them.

Should only be a matter of confirming a bonafide change of residence I presume. As you said, absent obfuscation on part of the family or school, what’s the hold up? Does Massillon need to file a TRO this morning?

The dragging of the feet is really crazy. Its nonsensical and backwards to be talking about "reviewing applications" in week 7. You damn near better find something wrong or else your just messing with people's season at best. Especially when you had an entire offseason to declare folks eligible or ineligible.

It should have been filed a week ago since they basically did the same thing to Massillon 2 years ago and kids had to sit a week and they found nothing wrong.
This “association” and their ability to make kids sit while they do an “investigation” is a joke. In this situation the family moved in February and they are just now getting around to it in late September ???
It’s time to put a stop to this nonsense.

a TRO wouldn’t work in this situation because Massillon is voluntarily sitting the kid. OHSAA has just said “we dunno yet, but if he’s ineligible, these games would be at risk of forfeit.”

lawsuits would come into play if and when OHSAA makes some kind of final decision.

So are you saying Massillon, Glenville, these other programs, could be playing these players? And that would not piss OHSAA off and/or pressure them to find some technical reason to make them forfeit? Like weeks later not just one week? Cuz I think that is how everyone feels about OHSAA - scared of them. Justifiably so imo.

I think if we did that it would just prolong the "investigation". At least now they must feel some level of urgency/public pressure. Maybe.

Your worked there didn't you? Lord knows they HATE transfers - in defiance of state legislature and school choice advocates. Is this another manufactured pressure tactic to deter transfers? Sure looks like it. Bad enough to require families to invest thousands to relocate to avoid sitting out, then have to sit out anyhow?

They could be playing them, yes. Would it “piss off” the OHSAA, no, I don’t think so. The OHSAA genuinely wouldn’t care, because if an issue was found/substantiated, they’d just make them forfeit the games. At which point, naturally, the lawsuits begin.

Yes I worked there from 2013-2021, in the officiating department though, not eligibility/compliance.

To be honest, the High Schools in Ohio, specifically HS Principals, vote on measures put into place by the OHSAA.

OHSAA exerts alot of control over what gets voted on or passed. What was the vote on playoff separation? On CB and transfers - sure they pretty much let lower division publics (powerful lobby) push their problems onto the upper divisions but by no means addressed the issue.

So basically, the plan is to decide transfer eligibility late in the season or after, and force schools to assume all risk. With 0 incentive to approve before the season or at least by week 5. And that is acceptable? If someone sues them they'll just say hey it was voluntary, not required. Very underhanded imo!

At least on the surface this seems to be the gist of it.

I think it’s very fair to ask why this issue hasn’t been resolved sooner. OHSAA would be doing themselves a favor to come out publicly and explain that.
