Ohio State Recruiting

They gave him a scholarship. I may be mistaken, but all of Herbie’s other kids were walk-ons.

Congrats to him, even if he never plays a down. There’s a big difference between being on scholarship vs. being a walk-on, and I can’t fault anyone for taking the scholly .
They go to 105 scholarships next year, IIRC. There will be no more walkons.

Not necessarily. I may be wrong but I remember reading for every scholarship from 86-105, schools must add a scholarship to a woman’s sport for Title 9 reasons. So some schools might keep some walk ons, keeping them in the loop utilizing some NIL, and only have 90 or 95 scholarships.

Of course with new NCAA roster limits, there are no more walkons, which is kind of sad.

The depth of your rhetoric is imoressive
Really hit the nail on the head with Clinton Massie. In a key battle of rich vs poor, mcsurleys overrated and outdated offense failed when it mattered most. Hopefully Massie can save enough money to hire an analytics guy or staff that understands offense. Also need to get some harder teams on the schedule. Congrats on the huge upset Indian Hill!

In addition to NW transfer Josh Thompson, Ohio State has been in contact with: Ball State’s OG Taran Tyo, Versailles OH native; Nevada’s OG Isaiah World; and a few other OL, but haven’t seen the names.

Nebraska edge transfer James Williams is visiting this weekend. Former 2*, currently ranked as the #2 edge in the portal and 11th overall transfer. 3 years of eligibility as a current RS freshman.

2026 #1 overall recruit OT Jackson Cantell visiting this weekend.

Ryan Williams ....OSU needs to get him in the portal b4 Michigan does
I am pretty sure that was started by a fake account and real media sources are running with it. I don't believe he is in the portal, nor do they expect him to enter the portal. I may be proven wrong but that is what I am seeing right now.

Exactly. Kirk was a step above Bellasari and Bauserman, but not much.
He was the stereotypical arrogant, quarterback jerk. Couldn't crack the starting lineup till his fifth year meaning he couldn't beat out Greg Frey or Kent Graham. Single handedly lost the Citrus Bowl to Georgia, a game that should have been a 14 point win. Better than Bauserman? Yes. Bellasari? Not sure.

I like the portal for OL. Get players who have a proven track record and college game tape to watch. Let someone else develop them.

Funny you mentioned that Georgia game. Robert Smith was great that game. Hearst for Georgia wouldn’t have had so many rushing attempts and yards if Kirk could actually throw and wasn’t giving UGA extra possessions. Kirk was definitely the biggest factor in that loss.

So far outside of the Purdue safety I don’t see any elite level players OSU is in on in the portal. Team needs serious line help but relying on the portal is always a gamble considering most players entering aren’t OSU caliber or national title caliber

Don't forget the two fumbles he caused inside the Georgia 5. Then, he tried to blame fullback Jeff Cothran for his own bumbling

Thank You. Had a couple people message me saying the post had a word not spelled right. Couldn’t figure it out. Don’t have spell that much in construction management business
