Ohio State Recruiting

I believe that per capita Mississippi and Louisiana have been the top-2 in terms of producing NFL players for several years. They punch way above their weight relative to population.

You need to have a recruiting presence in the Deep South for that reason, irrespective of if the recruiting wins are few and far in-between. There is premium talent there even if the competition to acquire the talent is immense.
Exactly. Back before Urban, OSU would get a player out of Texas now and then, but it wasn’t an area of emphasis in recruiting. Urban came in and one of his priorities for the program was to make Texas, especially the DFW metroplex, a regular pipeline of talent to OSU. When he was seeking his offensive coordinator part of the requirements was that they have extensive Texas recruiting contacts and experience. That’s how he came upon Tom Herman, whom he had never met. When Herman left he was replaced by Tim Beck, who also had a golden reputation with the HS coaches in TX. It takes some time to build the relationships and trust of the HS coaches where they are comfortable enough recommending to their players and the parents that the kid will be taken care of and get a fair shake at a college.

Some of these high growth areas like DFW, Atlanta, central Florida, Phoenix, etc. should be “pipelined” anyway as a lot of the growth has been Ohio and midwestern transplants. There is a natural inroad with noticeable pockets of Ohio State fans sown into the communities.

One dude that comes to mind as an example was Demetrius Knox. Technically Ohio State pulled him out of DFW, but he was in Springfield and maybe Huber Heights through 4th or 5th grade before the family moved. Believe he was a solid Buckeye fan prior to being recruited and committing. Those types of kids increasing are not rare exceptions IMO in the sun belt.

That actually is a big part of the strategy. They are following the Ohio migrants to Texas, Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas.

Keep hearing that St. Clair is "the truth" from Bellefontaine...did he not play in their 50-6 loss last night to London? If he did...yikes. Curious if anyone knows what's up.

For 2025 and 2026, this will be Julian Sayin's team if we have the money for him. I am very concerned if Jeremiah Smith keeps up at this rate OSU might not be able to afford him next year, that's not a joke. Could easily see Miami bringing him back to Florida 8M richer.

Miami hasn't proven to be able to honor their NIL promises, while the Buckeyes have. And yes, Sayin will probably be the QB. Air Noland will transfer out when he loses the battle. If he wins it, Sayin will be gone.

Idk why he stayed there, his learning curve is going to be so much greater playing in smaller school Ohio. Needed to transfer to a top level D1 team in state or somewhere out of state.

I worry about Sayin because he’s so small and no taller than 6 feet. Not sure his arm isn’t great but he is a smoother operator.

From a standpoint of being “college football ready”…St. Clair probably should have conveniently found his way to Springfield or Dublin Coffman this year. Bellefontaine got a good WR from Centerville to move in that has about 60% of their receptions this year, but they lost a ton of talent graduating seniors after last year. They aren’t nearly as good this year IMO.

St. Clair is banged up at the moment, but the bottom line is it probably wouldn’t have really mattered. His team was severely overmatched last night, and is going to be overmatched against anyone that’s legitimately good for D3/D4.
