Ohio State Recruiting

Jeramiah Smith committed almost a year before signing day, OSU should have never accepted his verbal commitment LOL.
No I wouldn’t have, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have signed with OSU either. He visited everywhere on earth and just made OSU look bad during the process and then his signing day was a disaster.

That’s the new normal, man. JJ was reportedly making $10k a visit to FSU and Miami. Even the biggest of homers wouldn’t pass that up.

You realize he had local schools paying him every time he visited, right? He made easy money to the tune of at least high five figures.

You have to deal with this if you want anyone that’s highly coveted from Florida or the Deep South.

That’s fine, he can go make that money just not as an OSU commitment. Just keep recruiting him until signing day which OSU was still doing all the way up until 10pm est on NSD. He was never fully committed until after he signed is my point.

Yes he was you complete moron! He said himself that there was never any wavering in his commitment

No wavering but yet in the end it took him until 10pm on NSD to send in his LOI all the while really struggling in the final 24 hours to finally choose OSU over Miami? How dense can you be dude?

Well let’s just say I believe him more than I believe you because he said that story was completely untrue. Bottom line is he was signed way early and played his first game yesterday. sweetie

Oh yeah. Maybe he will maybe he won't. Did you say the same thing about Caleb Downs.
I don’t recall that Downs had ever committed to OSU while he was in HS? I know somewhere in these Yappi threads I posted that Offard would never play a down for OSU on the day he “committed” and I stick by it.

Point is whoever thought Downs a year ago would be a Buckeye today. Offord might be a Buckeye next season or in 2 seasons as a transfer who knows, I don't even think Offord knows. But if Auburn keeps losing Offord and other highly rated recruits won't be heading to Auburn regardless of NIL.

Oh, I don’t know about transfers. Can’t predict that. Sure, he could go to Auburn or somewhere in the SEC and eventually play for the Buckeyes, but it’s not going to happen right out of HS. Saban retiring threw a wrench into recruiting, so my guess is a lot of these guys are waiting to see how DeBoer does and if he does well enough Bama will get them. If not, Auburn or Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, etc. I just don’t see OSU pulling a kid right out of an Alabama HS. Florida, yes. Georgia, yes. Tennessee, yes. Texas, yes. Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana…the Deep South, nope.

Doesn't Ohio State have multiple recruits from those states at the moment?
Alabama, yes. Mississippi and Louisiana, no. Although they apparently lead for a 2026 Mississippi kid and will need to outbid USC for a Louisiana 2026 kid (who will soon reclassify to 2025).

Mississippi has a population of less than 3 million. They aren’t producing a ton of 4 and 5 stars for that reason alone.

Per the Class of 2025 247 composite rankings Ohio has 2 five star and 14 four star recruits. Mississippi has 2 five star and 13 four star recruits. Mississippi punches far above its weight.

I believe that per capita Mississippi and Louisiana have been the top-2 in terms of producing NFL players for several years. They punch way above their weight relative to population.

You need to have a recruiting presence in the Deep South for that reason, irrespective of if the recruiting wins are few and far in-between. There is premium talent there even if the competition to acquire the talent is immense.
