Ohio State Football 2025

Appears that Ryan Day did try for the grand slam hire (Durkin) and didn’t get him. That is just a major shot to the nuts. How in the F can OSU not get an Ohio native to come home and stay in trashy Auburn???

OSU can pay Durkin more and is a much better program. Really makes no sense for Durkin to stay in that cesspool unless he truly dislikes Ohio State. This is really disheartening because this is the guy I've been beating the drum to for a long time.
Based on what? Auburn has some rich alumni including Tim Cook may have heard of him the CEO of Apple. Coaches same as players same as most people go with the money, highly doubt it has anything to do with liking or disliking OSU. Maybe Durkin prefers warmer weather over the cold.

Based on OSU having a bigger alumni base and being located in a more populous state.

This ^^^^

I dearly miss Ohio, it is and always will be home. Yet life's pathways are always complicated by what is best for career and family.

Personally not a fan of the hire. I am glad they're reportedly set to retain Tim Walton as co-defensive coordinator, and Matt Guerrieri as passing game coordinator. But Patricia has been available, and largely unemployable at this same position in the NFL. Good take on The Podcast Live Show from yesterday on reasons some have trepidation about it. Although I've seen others that think it will work.

This hire 7 years ago would have been a slam dunk before Patricia's not so good tenure with the Lions. Saban hired several coordinators that flamed out as HC's.

My biggest issue is this team rebounded after a heartbreaking close loss in Eugene and a dumbfounding loss to a heated rival in large part due to the culture. Everything I’ve read on Patricia is that, even if he’s a good DC, he is horrible for the locker room.

Confusing hire.

Agreed. Have heard the same. Hopefully it's just a rebab stint, OG Walt and Guerrieri handle things in the locker room, and he just sits up in the box on game day to help share perspective/experience. And then he gets a job during the NFL retread hiring cycle next year. I would also assume since Day was assertive/aggressive enough to send Knowles crying to Penn St., that he'll let Patricia know what's up.

Patricia was with the Patriots for a decade never heard of any locker room issues. He is not the HC the DC. Urban Meyer was a great college HC but NFL not so much including locker room issues including physical abuse allegation, but I would hire Meyer in a heartbeat as a college HC. Saban hired Sarkisian and his drinking issues. NFL is not college; players are not the same again never heard of any issues at NE.

I’m going to say there’s zero way to know if this is a good or bad hire. He was a defensive coordinator for two Super Bowl wins. People said Chip Kelly was a bad hire, and we saw how that turned out

I can't get over the fact that we literally just saw how dominant that Eagles defense was just a year after they sent Patricia packing.

The 2023 season the Eagles didn’t have
* the 2 rookie DB’s
* Saquon Barkley - a run game is a D’s best friend

Patricia was horrible as Detroit’s HC but the guy worked as Belicheck’s DC for almost 10 years. To say it was still Belicheck’s defense, that’s a far argument but I’ll go with Patricia has to be better than most if he was good enough to work for Belicheck.

I definitely question his personality to be a good recruiter but I can’t see him staying at OSU for more than 2 years.

So...need a Safeties Coach now? Whos out there?
Why? Matt G. will likely be the DC when Patricia leaves.

This. Patricia IMO is going to use this opportunity like Kelly did to rebrand himself and if he does well, will be back in the NFL next year or the year after.

Patricia far from being a home run hire, but may serve as a "bridge" until Matt Geuterri (sp?) is ready.

well then, I think then I'm sorta glad that he didn't accept it... by the way people get tired of your beating drum
