Ohio Heritage Conference 2024

There isn’t a senior on Cedarville’s roster who would want to opt out. Unless it’s because of injuries, you go play that game. Hell, I would have taken on the 99 Denver Broncos for a chance to play in week 11 my senior year.
Idk...that team is beat up pretty bad I think the qb and another lineman were injured last night...they only dressed like 22 kids yesterday....they have alot of basketball kids on their team. I would think that the coach would have to talk to the players about making that decision...if they were not playing Marion Local maybe, but I think I would pass...just my opinion.

I thought it was interesting that the program listed more boys running cross country than playing football. Maybe some were doing both, didn’t look but this really surprised me. BTW the program I bought was very well done. Good program seems harder and harder to find at games anymore.

I'll agree with that! I guess I am too old to adapt and accept the new age QRC programs. I like the hard copy with that ink smell and I don't have to put on the reading glasses and expand the screen just see the grade of the kid, lol.

I thought this might be the case...I think it's a smart move.

I don’t agree with it. “Courage is fear holding on a minute longer.” (General Patton). I’d play that game with 14. Let’s sit here and wonder why the OHC can’t beat the MAC.

Not you, @Grevw fan , but do you all think fort recovery passes on the opportunity to play anyone in week 11? Unequivocally, no. We are soft.

I agree...its a different mindset with some teams...I know West Liberty would not turn down the opportunity...but the culture between the top teams and bottom teams is drastically different, and I'm talking about within the OHC. The MAC is a entirely different animal.

Friday night they had multiple injuries including the qb and at least 2 other starters...that's what I basied my opinion on...I don't think they would have enough kid's to play and not be worried about more injuries to under class kids...the numbers already low and go run those kids out against Marion Local...i think it's a bad idea...program suicide

See, my opinion is, program suicide is telling everyone in your school “we can’t and are scared to compete.”

Back in our day this wouldn’t even be an issue. OHSAA’s greed has created this problem. Lower level D6 and D7 (not even a division back in “our” day) teams are likely barely holding on to being able to field a team by the end of the season. They’re playing tons of freshmen and sophomores who wouldn’t even see the field in most healthy programs. So because of greed Cedarville was thrown in to this. Saying no is smart and ensures those freshmen and sophomores who may not be sold on high school football anyways don’t have their final football experience of the year be a miserable experience against one of the best teams in the state regardless of division. Cedarville and schools like them in similar situations have no business being thrown up against the best teams in the state just so the OHSAA can grab a few extra bucks. Back in “our” day it was top 4 or 8 of 6 (or less? divisions). In D1 or 2 where there is depth….ok roll the dice. D7…..stupidity to throw what’s an average at best JV team in to that situation

This I can agree with. Thanks for helping me recognize why, truly.

Still, if I were coaching I’d play it. But CC nailed why a coach wouldn’t and I get it. Marion Local may get the first ever bye next weekend. Thanks OHSAA

As much as I hate the message this sends to the players and the community, this was ABSOLUTELY the right choice. Rolling out a bunch of JV players against a top 10 team in the state, and the best small school program in the country, would be a disservice to those kids and may hurt your numbers going into the next season.

If this were basketball, go play. It is not a safety issue in a non-contact sport. However, this is absolutely a safety issue. This is Cedarville we are talking about, not a team with 40 kids in the program that has had some moderate success.

Last year, Cedarville took a formidable team up to Maria Stein and lost 69-0. That is a lot of points. Cedarville also had to play the Flyers in 2020. The coaches knew what they would be getting into and were smart enough to understand it would do more bad than good by playing that game.

This is a rare situation and I can only see it happening in a situation that involves Marion Local. Marion Local is simply too good at the D7 level. They have a legitimate chance to put a running clock on every team they play on the way to another state title.

Cedarville was the 17 seed at 4-6. The 4 teams they beat had a combined total of 5 wins. Had Cedarville been the 16 seed they would have played. It's not like they earned it, they were the 17 seed, so why would they. Cedarville has played Marion Local twice in the past 4 years. Cedarville finished their game last Friday night with 14 healthy players. Their starting QB broke his collarbone. Their starting RB / LB injured his shoulder and their starting LT tore his labrum. Their 2 best WR's have a broken jaw and broken hand. None of those kids would be able to play Week 11. This team had 3 seniors and only 1 of them had played football before. Why would you send a handful of freshman and sophomores up there? Especially when you didn't earn a top 16 seed. Seems like common sense prevailed.

I agree. I made the point that Marion Local is also a classy program. No one is getting embarrassed by the Flyers. They'll take care of business, and then handle the rest of the game appropriately.

At this point, the season has already served it’s purpose for most of the kids and parents.
And that is truly who is in charge right now.
If a kid or parent doesn’t want to go, it ain’t happening.
If a kid’s goal is to be all-conference…
the all-conference teams were selected on Sunday.
Only 1 or 2 kids on these teams have a desire to play football at the next level… but they are outnumbered by “only 3-months a year” players; waiting to start winter or spring sports; or start working to get money for a car.
Most coaches know this and get it.
Some are so blind that they would send a child into the lion’s den, because he thinks that’s what he would’ve done when he was a 130 lb teenager.

Way off!!! I would argue that the huge majority of the kids on these high school teams want to play as much football as possible. They are only guaranteed 40 games in all of high school. Every win in the playoffs gives you 1 more chance to play the game they love. That is why they put in the work in the off season, all summer, and season. Are there some kids who want it August 1 - Late October, yeah, but those kids typically don't play football anymore. Some of theses teams have not yet "served their purpose", if their goal is States, Regional champs, or just getting a 1st playoff win in however years, they still have a purpose to be out there.

MSMl is so classy that after they beat you the opponents says 'thank you sir, can I have another'.

All conference teams were announced. Congrats to Ryker Green (Fairbanks) and Alex Horney (Greeneview) on being name POY in their respective division. Here's the full list:

First and foremost congrats to the league champions and those heading into the playoffs!!!

With respect to WJ football program, I still hold a great deal of respect for Coach B and what he has done over his tenure. More importantly is what he teaches the young men about life after football. Not only are these young men taught about football, but also about how to be a great friend; be a great husband, be a great father, contributor to society, hard worker and so on............all these based on the core beliefs and approach of "the program". The biggest dropoff I have seen is the mental & physical toughness of WJ teams and the decline of their defense.

I agree with wls_color and that the OHC football league in general has become softer than in years past. We will see how deep we can get a team or two in the playoffs.

I say play the game, especially at the end of the year against a classy program. I understand coaches need to protect the mental aspect of the kids and avoid them getting completely broken, however, at some point these kids need to learn that not facing challenging circumstances, even next to impossible ones, will only result in bad results and potentially limit them in the ultimate game of life. My son lost to Coldwater (several times) and Marion Local and if I were to ask him the same question he answer would certainly be............give me another shot to play them again. There is no shame in losing a game, there is plenty of it when you decide not to even try.

Good luck to all OHC playoff teams and hope for your success!!!

Back in my days 2 teams made ....hahaha !!!

Ronnie Thomas is one of the most respectful and hard working kids you will find, possibly the best Wrestler in the OHC, his 1st year playing finished the regular season tied 1st in the OHC in sacks, 2nd on the team in rushing yards, and 3rd in Total Tackles. Burg needs a lot more kids like him!
Sounds like America needs more kids like him!!!
