Nico Iamaleava Entering the Portal

Wherever he goes, the rest of college football will be rooting against that team.
Why? Let's say Iamaleava is currently making 2 mill a year and his agent says he can double that. Most people would do the same as Iamaleava is doing. Now maybe his agent is wrong but that is why you hire an agent for to take his advice. I get why people are upset with the system but why be upset with someone taking advantage of the system and making more money, IMO that is a great thing.

Bc he’s a representation of everything wrong with the sport.

I agree. I dont blame the player. The NIL system is broke with no guardrails. Until some structure is wrapped around this, its a free for all. This was inevitable.
I dont like it, but this is where we are.

LOL didn't ND sign a TP QB last year, how much money did Ewers get from Tx. or Downs from OSU did you want those players to fail (root against) as well.
Leonard didn’t leave for a paycheck, he went to a contender.
Ewers came to OSU for a paycheck but went home to Texas
Downs left Alabama because the GOAT retired.
All got paid for sure but it doesn’t appear NIL was the sole factor.

Nico left solely for more money in the middle of spring practice.

Basically, they didn’t try to hold their teams hostage in the Spring.

Coaches do it all the time give me more money (resources) or off I go. Willard, Williams (bball) the last 2 examples, going to root against them. But again, how many people would turn down an extra 2 mill. to go elsewhere to play football. Just following his agent's (representatives) advice which could be wrong will find out.

How many people would ask for 2 mil more after being mediocre? He wasn’t approached by teams, he was shopping himself.

Come off it. Didn't UGA and OSU get in a bidding war over Downs, Saban retiring was an excuse to leave for greener pastures and I am glad he did. Ewers yeah came to OSU for money and than he went to Tx. and got even more money but thats different. Leonard goin to ND if they don't give him an NIL deal very doubtful, he goes to ND. Might be different situations but there is one common denominator more money. I know if I can get 2 mill. more playing football for team X compared to team Y I am gone. Because the next I step on that practice field very well could be my last (serious injury.

Again, his agents or representatives must think he can, just following his representative's advice which is why he has an agent for. Iamaleava is 20 years old (i think), I don't get the reason why people "hate" or want to see a 20 year old fail because of his decisions. Screw Tenn. they outbid OSU for Sanders last year, how dare Sanders/anybody make decisions based on money.

Again, I said they all got paid. They didn’t transfer for free. But they also didn’t solely transfer for the money like Nico is. Baffling someone could compare the situations.

They think that bc they’re regards.

It’s not that I disagree with the premise that one should be able to earn their worth on the open market, but reports seem to indicate this dude failed to live up to his end. Didn’t show up to contractually obligated signings, meet-and-greets, etc. And he was mid at best. I hope he ends up in the Big Ten so we can crack his helmet in half again. Lol.

Proof? Reportedly Downs was all ready to sign with UGA than last second, he flipped to OSU. Ewers only went to OSU for money at least Tenn. got a year out of Iamaleava.

baffling anybody would question anyone making a decision based on money. Esp. an xtra 2 million dollar, knowing again your next practice might be your last practice. I hope the kid gets his money aint America great.

Edit: Tenn. should have had Iamaleava's NIL contract structured so that he couldn't leave after 2 years.

These schools like Tenn. have nobody to blame but themselves. They throw millions (reportedly) at these players feet and then they are surprised when players leave for "greener" pastures. The irony of it all.

2 million a year for 2 years? How much is enough?

Are you talking about the rumor on UGA boards saying he was looking at apartments in Athens? I could have sworn Georgia insiders said that was false and they were never really in it.

“I wouldn’t be paying him more than $1 million to $1.5 million,” the NIL collective head said. “He will probably get $3 million-plus. Tough timing though. Gotta imagine most (schools) have spent their budgets.”

That was a commonly shared sentiment. Although some programs may have uncertain quarterback situations, most have committed to their starter for the 2025 season and allocated money accordingly, making it difficult to pivot now. With the House settlement looming and a $20.5 million cap on revenue that schools can share with athletes, many schools have planned their roster budget with that number in mind.

“Hope it was worth it,” a Group of 5 general manager said. “Would have a tough time imagining someone is going to pay that much to replace the guy they already have slated to start this year.”

To me, it is all about the timing of this situation! Bad look and a black eye on this kid. Whether you want to blame him or his agent, it doesn't really matter. I can't blame him for trying to get more money, Tennessee just didn't take the bait.... someone will step up for Tennessee, especially since Hoepel is a former QB.

Apparently, they were trying to re-negotiate during the Playoff. Get f'd. I'm a Capitalist, I'm all for players getting $ they EARNED, but this mother f'er didn't earn anything.

That's a huge gap in time from the playoff until now. Someone dropped the ball, but Tennessee will be fine. He came into the Shoe last year and got exposed. Maybe the coaches saw what he did under pressure in the playoff game and decided to intentionally run from him and his agent.

Thats your opinion (Tenn gave him 2 mill a year coming out of HS without earning anything so who is to blame) his agents or whoever think otherwise. Tell me if you are in Iamaleava shoes you are going to turn down a possible 2 million dollar increase in pay, most people not.

It wasn't negotiations for 2025, he was trying to get more $ that week. That shows you where his priorities are. I really do not like this kid. I could understand his attitude if he was really good, but he's not.

Kevin Willard (most likely) was negotiating a contract with Villanova while coaching Maryland in the NCAA Bball tourney where is your outrage at Willard. If DeBoer for some reason stepped down at bama today and bama told Heupel we will double your salary you think he is going to stay at Tenn. regardless of timing. I don't get the hate towards a 20-year-old kid when professional athletes and Head Coaches do the same thing all the time.
