Nico Iamaleava Entering the Portal

A recent report from CBS analyst Josh Pate suggests that Iamaleava almost chose to stage this opt-out/holdout at a time with much-higher stakes.

Pate said, "This past December, cats like Nico Iamaleava almost held out of Playoff games, because they were trying to renegotiate contracts in the middle of the Playoff run."

A conflicting report:

Now, the entire ordeal has put Iamaleava’s college future—and possibly his football career—in serious jeopardy. But as it turns out, it was actually Iamaleava’s agent who acted unethically, going behind everyone’s back in an attempt to secure more money. That decision ultimately led to a disastrous fallout.

“Unannounced to both Nic and Nico, their agent went behind their back to work negotiations once again. When he overplayed his hand, things got messy quickly. He attempted to save some face with the family by blaming the Tennessee side,”
Ryan Roberts wrote.

This from the article: It's the kind of detail that could be exaggerated over time, so it might be best to take it with a grain of salt.

If the kid wants the praise and money that comes with playing college QB, then certainly he can take the heat for bad decisions.

He's a pro athlete. That position comes with fans AND haters. His decision caused the backlash and he has no one to blame but himself for the bad press.

Kevin Willard (most likely) was negotiating a contract with Villanova while coaching Maryland in the NCAA Bball tourney where is your outrage at Willard. If DeBoer for some reason stepped down at bama today and bama told Heupel we will double your salary you think he is going to stay at Tenn. regardless of timing. I don't get the hate towards a 20-year-old kid when professional athletes and Head Coaches do the same thing all the time.
He wasn't not going to show up to Coach if they didn't meet his demands.

So heard that story about him and a couple players wanted more money to play in the playoffs... today on Sirius radio.... so has that been confirmed?

and also did the boy get paid by the VOLS while he was in High School?

It is being reported that he is heading to UCLA for around $1.7 mill. I know his mom is/was battling cancer and he’s from SoCal so in that regard the move makes sense. It’s no where near what his camp was originally looking for money wise.
