Deepest Weight (Top 40)
D1: 190
D2: 285
D3: 285

Tied for Second Deepest Weight (Top 35)
D1: 126, 132, 138, 285
D2: 113, 132, 138, 144
D3: 120, 126, 138, 157

Random Notes:
D1 120: I found out late last week that previous #2 Vazsonyi (Medina Highland) will unfortunately not be able to make it back by sectionals.

D1 150: This weight had a lot of changes this week. Previous #15 Wooldridge (LaSalle) beat previous #5 Martin (Beavercreek) by after being up like 10. Previous Non-ranked Walton (Aurora) pinned previous #17 Croom (Austintown-Fitch) and Previous non-ranked Fumic (Mentor) beat previous #8 Hill (Medina Highland), 8-5.

D3 This weight had quite the shake-up this week due to Harrison (Elgin) beating Reinhart (Antwerp), 6-3, in the finals at Ada.

If you think I missed a result (which is VERY POSSIBLE), a result from State Duals is incorrect on Baumspage or have any weight changes/questions/suggestions/etc. please Email me at Borofanohio@gmail.com or PM me on here.

I am still looking for results from the following events/duals (I received or found partial results for some of these, but I still might have missed something). ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Weds: Marysville vs Hamilton
Weds: Battle of Route 61 (Galion/Plymouth/Shelby/Willard)
Weds: Preble Shawnee vs Middletown Madison
Thurs: Dublin Scioto vs Big Walnut
Thurs: St. Mary's Memorial vs Elida
Thurs: Elmwood vs Woodmore
Fri: Harrison vs Loveland
Tonight/Tues: St. Mary's Memorial vs Lima Bath
Tonight/Tues: Granville vs New Albany

As always, I will only make changes Wednesday (if needed) and I will post them on here below:
D1: 120, 132, 144, 150,
D2: 106**, 120, 138, 144
D3: 126, 132, 150, 285

I made one change on Thursday at 106 because there wasn't a #13. I moved up everyone up a spot and added in Herrera at #30

D3 has top 35 at 132 as well just figured I would make sure you realized that!! Thanks for all you do!!!

Meh, just leave it.... it'll make 5 kids' week 😁🤣!
I considered it, but due to an upset I missed from a dual meet last week, there were a few additions in the #20ish range, so most of those guys unfortunately would have fallen out anyway.

I think the Eagles will be fine. Yes you may or may not see a FF this weekend. Only time will tell. I don't think you will see a FF against Brecksville. I assume you will see the Eagles bump. Or not if the dual is over.

Out of curiosity, it looks like D2 120 Curry got bumped down a bit, did he lose to someone, or did the others just gain more credibility?

On Wed I believe i saw him bump up and wrestle D2 126 #3 Aiden King. He was pinned in the 2nd period.

He lost last week to R.Parobek from Ashland. This week's loss to King will be reflective in my almanac (although as of now, that result doesn't change anything).

Do you take into consideration when a higher ranked wrestler dodges a match against another highly ranked wrestler at a dual? I like to follow all of the ranked kids at any event that I attend. I saw a little of that today, and it had me wondering.

As a longtime coach myself, I find it impossible to believe that a wrestler has much say in whether or not a he bumps during a dual, nor would it be clear to schlubs up in the stands what the motive of a coach’s decision to bump wrestlers unless he told you himself. But if you like to speculate, I’ll give you the only two valid motives to move regular starter from his spot during a dual:

1) To maximize the odds of the TEAM winning the dual based on all the matchups.

2) To minimize the possibility of injuries to key wrestlers in cases where the outcome of the dual is no longer in question.

Any other theories are bunk.

Why not wait until after districts then?
Just my opinion, but the week of districts is when the real build up towards the State Tournament begins, that's where the really good/competitive wrestling begins. That's where the real intensity begins for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I still go to and enjoy sectionals but it doesn't quite hold the drama for me as it once did. This is just my own opinion.

Agree 100%. I follow D3 and it’s kinda sad anymore. I see weights where kids wrestle one match and they’re in the semi’s. It’s not just the lightweight classes either. It’s across the board. Back in the day all the classes were almost always filled.

Again, this is just my opinion, but my own belief is that the only way for sectionals to return to their intensity (from the quarter finals on) is to go to two divisions. Being a sectional champ is nice, but the way things are now a lot of sectional champs won't even sniff a trip to Columbus.

These are last year’s (2022) numbers from all 16 of the D1, D2 & D3 sectional entry grids.

Division I

175 - 152
190 - 150
215 - 154
285 - 136

It’s not “across the board”.
Bottom 2 or 3 weights are always going to be smaller, especially from smaller schools.
But middle and upper weight numbers from D3 look to be better than the D1 numbers.

I haven’t been to a sectional tournament in over 20 years, but it seems like there were more teams at less sectionals. I just clicked on a handful of last years sectionals and there were kids getting byes out to the semis. Not just the lower weights or upper weights. Admittedly the middle weights weren’t as bad, but seriously. It’s pathetic. Cut back on the amount of sectionals. Combine some of them together. When’s the last time you’ve seen a rat tail match? Now kids are lucky to get a first round match. At the one sectional I saw 3 kids at 113, and two were top 3 finishers at state. Getting a first round bye at districts is sad.
