Mason vs Moeller Sunday Update

Wasn't able to make the game today. Any comments from those who were there?

Moeller had the ball inside 10 3 times in game only to score 3 pts. Moe has to learn to put teams away. This game never should have been this close. Moe also had to avoid huge penalties that kept Mason in the game the second half.

Mason hung tough all day. Moeller got out to a 14-0 lead by the half. Mason defense played great all afternoon despite Preston Hutchinson losing two fumbles. They again kept the Comets in the ballgame. Moeller had the ball inside the 10 numerous times and only came away with 3 points. Mason had the momentum in the second half coming back with 14 points behind Sora, Kopay, Grace, Buford and Croy. Game was still in question with 1:40 left in the fourth and Mason ball. Unfortunately, Preston tried a a pass over the middle which was basically flat. It was swatted down and intercepted by Moe. Mason now has Moellers respect but not the win and possibly serves the GMC notice entering conference play.

My final thought is not personal but I have no idea how Hutchinson is going to play at the D1 college level. 3 fumbles, two lost and an INT to end the game. That makes 5 fumbles in the past 3 games and he's lost 4. I won't even mention how many times he's had receivers wide open and he totally missed them with time to throw

So you're saying mason played good defense?

good thing those thoughts weren't " PERSONAL ", I would hate to see what it would look like if it was " Personal ", Good grief man, how are those statements NOT PERSONAL; , what would that look like exactly.

Hey, if you're a GMC QB and a team captain, five fumbles in three games is BAD!! No other way to slice it!

Not saying it's not " BAD" in terms of performance , you need to protect the bal better but if you can't see the difference between saying that and the other parts of the comments { The college crack } I can't help you.

But as for the game, it went pretty much how I thought it would. Moeller was clearly bigger and more athletic. Mason played with heart and competed the best they could. Mason had to play a mistake free game to win and unfortunately too many turnovers and missed opportunities. I was shocked that Moeller was as undisciplined as they were racking up like 150 yards in penalties. If these teams were to meet again, it would be a very similar outcome if both teams fixed their issues.

Real classy back-handed compliment in Monday's Enquirer from Coach Rodenberg:

Moeller coach John Rodenberg said. "We had to refocus. This is (Mason's) Super Bowl. We kept it all football."

Why was it really hard to say great win for Moe--almost blow a 17 point lead as Mason is driving for the go-ahead score late 4th quarter. Maybe just say "Mason played hard, kept fighting, and that was a big win to get Moeller to 2-1 this season." I guess Rodenberg couldn't stomach winning by just 3 points.

Sorry the game was NOT Mason's "Super Bowl"--a much bigger game with #1 Colerain in two weeks and a shot at winning the GMC would fall under "Super Bowl" category. Pretty sure Marvin Lewis had compliments for the Jets after the Bengals won by 1 on the road--surprised Rodenberg couldn't do the same thing!!

I give a lot of credit to Mason - I believed Moeller would win this one going away. Mason continued to play and were able to get back into the game. Mason definitely had the momentum in the 4th quarter until the interception on their last drive. Both teams made a lot of mistakes so its tough for me to say which team was impacted more - penalties v turnovers is tough to compare. I did feel that Mason was a little overwhelmed by the occasion early on - some guys a little to excited and some in awe of playing Moeller - and that allowed Moeller to get going in the 1st half. Once Mason settled down it was a pretty even game.

Your right B.E.--just would've been nice if Moeller's coach could've acknowledged the same thing--as you well know he was hoping to beat the snot out of Mason and keep the pipeline flowing to Montgomery--and he wasn't able to do it so he played it off like the game meant more to Mason than Moeller--weak:(

So if this was Masons Super Bowl what does that say about his own teams abilities? I guess it's easier to play and defeat teams from Canada with relative ease than it is to face your own teams shortcomings.

Bingo Comet--if I was the head coach coming off a 5-5 season I'd be extremely happy to be 2-1 and beat Mason in a hard-fought game--Rodenberg wanted something BIG--didn't get it so he minimized the importance of the victory--pretty weak for a BIG TIME BALL COACH:(

This is great. Comet Dad and Comet Country coming together as one

Relax. You don't know how the reporter asked the questions to Rodenberg? He is usually very gracious to the opposing team. I think he was reacting to the very unusual situation created Friday night. He and any knowledgeable Moeller fan knew they would get Mason's best shot. They have a very good team that will probably be hosting a playoff game in week 11.

So I ask again. Hopefully Mason didn't schedule Moeller at home, with possibly their best team ever with no intention of playing at Lockland next year? Will this school man up and play home and home vs Big Moe into the future?

Finally, Moeller schedules one cupcake inclusive in the USA Todays second toughest schedule in the country and you are going to rip them for that?

When a HS team has injuries to key player's (Moeller in 2015) and play one of HS football's toughest schedules, you can finish 5-5 in a hurry. Just ask St. Xavier fans this year.

Rabbit don't blame the reporter please--he quoted what Rodenberg said--Mason had to come down from not playing Friday and getting back up to play Sunday--same for both teams. You probably already know this is a one game contract as the GMC is moving to an 8 game league schedule compared to the 3 game GCL South schedule--all GMC teams will now have just 2 slots available to play non-league in weeks 1 and 2--Mason has been opening with Springboro since the 2011 season, so I don't see that changing. The week 2 game with Withrow was also a fill-in for Upper Arlington backing out of a 2 year contract. Moeller has 7 non-league weeks so maybe they can get a spot in week 2 down the road and play at Lockland with our always hard playing Comets.

Thanks for acknowledging what Rodenberg couldn't that Mason deserved a compliment, but don't blame it on a reporter--I coached for 27 years and reporters at the HS level write down what the coach says!!:thumb:

You are making way to much out of Rody's comments IMO. I never blamed the reporter. Simply posing the question that his questions may have had something to do with his answers? As I stated Rody is usually pretty classy win or lose.

It was a very good game and both teams will be better for the experience.

As a Moeller fan, it gets a little frustrating when teams come calling with one of their better teams and want to play Moe at home and not return the game. I'm sure you get it coach?

I get ya Rabbit--no one came calling on this game--both teams had a week 3 open for this one season and it worked out and honestly turned out to be a great game. Quite honestly most Comet supporters might say the 2015 team was better than this team--especially with graduating good defensive backs and a couple explosive offensive players--please don't think the game was played in 2016 due to Mason knowing this might be their best team ever--pretty sure with no injuries both Moeller and Mason will be in the top 8 in Region 4 come playoff time--
