IUDOGS: 2023 - 2024 Ohio High School Head Football Coaching Changes

Not to beat a dead horse or to explore the various reason for this (which we have a separate thread dedicated too), the amount of assistant jobs and HC openings in Ohio is unreal compared to the 90's- 2010s
It’s because of the obvious reasons. Out of control parents, weak administrators, low pay and long hours. At some point it has to swing back the other way or we won’t have many good people left impacting kids in the high school sports world.

well with the addition of no offseason for really any sports anymore. I get lifting in the offseason as a way to work injury prevention and even speed and plyometric training, thats good for all athletes, and non athletes to be honest.

Granville will be an attractive job of course. Wonder if they'll get a coach that doesn't use it as a stepping stone.
That’s going to be hard to pull off - you’ve had coaches from all the successful smaller programs around Central OH leave for OCC jobs in recent years (Alder, Bloom Carroll, Granville, etc)

Do you guys think it's because coaches want bigger/high profile jobs? Or, is it that the smaller schools aren't doing something right? Obviously the big D1 and D2 schools have more resources, but is that really the deciding factor?

I think the bigger schools have way less teaching involved than smaller schools. That matters a lot to coaches now because it’s become a year around job. Probably most schools offer better pay too.

I view places like Granville as an OCC "light" school! They're an affluent community, a lot of resources, good athletes. It seems to me that a coach that can be successful there can then transition easier to an OCC job if they're looking to climb the ladder.
I may be off base with that but thats how I kind of view it. Bloom might be that too.

Well, OCC schools typically pay a lot more on the teaching scale and the coaching stipend is usually 2-3x more.

So the Toronto head coach Josh Franke is going to Westerville Central to be their head coach? WOW. The OCC competition will be a load different than what he's used to seeing.

Shaker Heights alum Andre Griffin is the new head coach at NDCL per release:

Good luck to Coach Griffin.......that administration is trash. They throw coaches out all the time and have crazy high expectations.
