Great wrestling in Cincinnati this weekend!

I heard Jeremy wasn't at the last scrimmage. Combined with the fact he is not on the certification site I am going to guess this is Mason smoke and mirrors.

It is Jeremey's intention to join the Mason wrestling team this season. He still has a couple of hurdles to clear before doing so. He was at the scrimmage Saturday, just did not wrestle. He was there supporting his team. Let's continue to wish him well as he attempts to return to wrestling.

True, and that "loss" smarted pretty bad. I was referring to duals though, where Mason has not put up much of a fight. Since you brought up single man bracket tournaments it would be prudent to look further than Sectionals where Mason edged Moeller. Moeller won Districts, beating 3rd place Mason by almost 40. Then there's State. Moeller finished 6th, with nearly triple the points "amassed" by 28th place Mason. That does not sound close to me. I know you were not trying to be a smart-------, but it does pay to do a bit of homework.

Big R, I've been around and watched Cincy wrestling for over 20 years and been to 18 state tourneys and my HW has already been done. You stated that it won't be a rivalry until the score is close. You never said anything about dual or tourney dual. I was just stating the facts. It was close last year since Mason acually beat Moeller in Moe's own gym. I don't care what happened after that. I could pull out all kinds of crazy stats for either side I wanted to be on. Like Mason, as well as Elder have each had more individual state champs in the last 5-6 years than Moeller. On the other side Moeller has had more overall placers and higher team finishes. All I was trying to say is that Moe and Mason have a good rivalry going and it's fun watching them dual and leave it at that. I'm new to this so I don't want to get into a pissing match here. So good luck to everyone this weekend.

You can pull out all kinds of crazy stats for BOTH sides? Please do!!!! Why only go back 5-6 years??? Moeller has more state champs than both Mason and Elder combine. Mason has yet to come close to Moeller in a dual and I dont expect it to be close next year either. Mason beat Moeller for the first time ever by a few points at the sectional tournament. Good job.

I really see this as a two team race the way the pools are drawn. Moeller and Wadsworth are the favorites. I really like the Fairfield team, but I don't think they will be ready to handle Moellers depth out of the gate. Just an opinion. In talking with people from Mason, they feel good about their squad this year, but going up against Wadsworth will probably limit how far they go. I'm not as well educated on the out of state teams, but I can't see any beating the Grizzly's.

That is very true! Now lets go back and count how many kids transferred in and won state titles. Who cares is the answer! What is really strange is that with all the transfers they still have not won a state title. I will admit that they stay top ten almost every year. Moeller is a great team with a amazing JH club team thats had many JH state champs. What is happening in that room that is causing them not to win the title? Now will Mason ever beat Moeller? Who knows? But I will say Mason should never beat Moeller! Moeller gets many kids from all over city to wrestle in their club and high school and Mason gets little billy from gym class every year. Mason defiantly will have trouble beating Moeller at the Jh and Hs level.

I bet Mason has twice as many youth and jr high wrestlers as Moeller youth or ECCW ,Its not Like Mason is a puny school ,although you do have to live in the district so you have a point but you took it a bit far

This is probably true, but for many parents in Mason, it's just a baby sitting service where their kid can burn off some excess energy for a while and they can take a break and work on their laptops for a couple hours. Whereas the Moeller kids/parents are a little more dedicated to the sport. Just based on the fact that parents are willing to drive across town so their son can face some good competition. That's one of the biggest differences.

You do realize Mason goes back and forth with Elder another great GCL school. Would dominate St.X and would dominate LaSalle. These schools can draw kids from different areas just like Moeller. But good wrestlers are wanting to come to Moeller is the difference. When Gaier took over the Moeller program do you understand how bad it was? Moeller didnt win its first District title till 2000. You act like Moeller just opens its doors and good wrestlers flock in. It took many years and a lot of hard work by several Moeller volunteers and coaches through out the years to help get this program where it is today. I remember when my team was finally ranked in the top 15 by breakman in the state ohio. It was the first time Moeller was ever mentioned in wrestling state rankings. Our team was going nutz!!!! All I hear from you is excuses on why you should fail.

I think Mason is heading in the right direction, but they're just not on the same level as Moeller yet. Doesnt happen over night nor does it rarely happen in just a few years. Longevity and dedication.

sounds like it is much more of a rivalry for Mason than Moe......maybe sorta like Moe and St. Eds....Moe has a target on Ed's back but only a couple of timese have scared them in a dual. I would say that it is not so much of a rivalry as it is a goal....for Mason.

Mason Has two big things going for them that will help with their program. An unbelievable facility that people wnat to go to and an HUGE kids club that is on the rise. Having a kids club and good coaches there will certainly help with their future. Hopefully they do not fall prey to state funding issues that have devistated many high schools already. Pretty soon we will all be high school club teams anyway and all the best kids will wrestlefor all star teams anyway.

one could argue that the funding issues are not state induced problems, but self induced due to irresponsible use of taxpayer money by school administrators with no accountability.........but that's a topic for another forum

I have to agree with all of these points. Moeller is a great program because of a lot of dedicated people and great leadership from the Head Coach who sets the expectations and follows through so everyone buys into the program. The Moeller Kids Club has always been solid and produced champions that grew into great JH and then awesome High School wrestlers. This is the key and Mason is now on the right track, but it does take almost a generation to see it come to full fruition. I think Elder has followed a similar path and the results show that the path works, over time. The top programs in Cincinnati have great feeder programs and a legacy of success that people want to be a part of. Once you get the ball rolling, every year is a chance to step one step closer to the elites in the State, like St. Eds, Walsh, and a few other schools.

I remember seeing a little cardboard sign in the Moe wrestling room that said something like: St. Edwards practices 3 hours a day all year long, they have 10 state titles. Gaier laid down what it takes to be at the St. Eds level and his team continues to move toward that goal. They are a rival to my favorite, but I applaud what they have done because it sets the mold that other schools need to follow to reach that level of success.

It's called St Eds, perennial top five in the nation. Next question, please.

With all that said even you know that since 2000, Moeller is 16-0 in duals vs. GMC. Ten top ten finishes at State, five top five finishes included. Mason none. Five state champs for Moeller, three for Mason. So I'm not sure what crazy stats you can pull out. Not pissing, just keeping it real.

I hoped this thread would shine some information on the teams the Wadsworth boys were going to face. Instead I got a bunch of whining from Mason supporters, oh well.

Went to CBus to pick up my son from OSU last night, and saw some Wadsworth wrestlers at a McDonalds on the way back. They were getting into a vehicle as we were getting out, and one of the Wadsworth boys looked over and said "hey, there's a wrestler". I guess they must recognize the look.

Although my career as a wrestling dad is over, it gave me a good feeling to see the season starting up..........I already miss it
