Federal League Football 2023

Getting back to football,(clearing my throat), my thoughts on this weeks games….
McKinley at Hoover…..I feel Hoover will give them their best shot, but I think the Bulldogs pull away in this game by the third quarter.

GlenOak at Green….last week might have been a watershed game for the Golden Eagles in gaining confidence. While I think Green pulls this one out, I wouldn’t be surprised if GlenOak wins a nail biter late in the fourth

Jackson at Lake…..if Lake gets pressure on Ecrement they have a good shot of winning. I think Lake‘s defense shuts down Jackson’s running game. If you sit back in coverage against the Polar Bears, you’re asking for trouble.

Perry at Louisville…..hopefully the Panthers shore up their pass defense. Rushing 3 and playing 7-8 in coverage isn’t working against spread offenses. The Leopards will try to exploit that, but even at that, the Panthers running attack should pull them through by a couple touchdowns In the second half.
Jackson doesn't have a run game to shut down?

You're right that depth is an issue for Green. I just don't get why Lake and Jackson can consistently get 70+ guys on their varsity rosters, but Green can't seem to get more than 50-55. Even though the teams were bad, there were more guys playing football for Green when Coach Wallace was in charge. I was expecting the program to grow in numbers after the playoff run two years ago, but it just hasn't happened. Also, the freshman team is winless, and I'm not sure they've scored a point in any of their five games.

You brought up the new indoor facility being built. Hopefully that will make a difference.
Well, just counted the roster in the program and Green is at 59. That's not too bad considering that football is down in most HS's. I didn't realize that about the freshman, ouch. However I'll say this, my sons senior year about 8-10 years ago he went 9-0, his senior year they were 4-6, so even though alarming, there's always time to right things.

Jackson has had a promising future, the Varsity team is young and the Freshman team is doing great, JV went undefeated last year but is struggling this year, but other than that future looks good for the Purple n' Gold.

Not likely to win another game? Green will beat Louisville and Perry. It sounded to me like Lodgson did a nice job at QB, leading a TD drive at the end of the first half and converting a 4th and 12 on the last drive. Having to fill in on the road against the best team on the schedule is a brutal way to get one's first varsity action. Nowhere to go but up. Green will still be able to move the ball on offense, and the defense may be even better than the 2021 defense was. Putting Martin at QB for some series should help the run game. GlenOak worries me because they run the ball well and have a huge O-line, but their best offensive player (Avante Burt) got hurt against Hoover. Friday's matchup will be tough, but winnable.

Perry has played the same two teams as Green the last two weeks. While Green's losses have come by a combined score of 48-40, Perry's have come by a combined score of 93-21. And Louisville was down 42 at halftime on Friday. As for the last two opponents on the schedule, Hoover's defense is suspect. Lake has injury issues of their own and have scored 14 or fewer points in regulation in 3 out of 5 games. Green still has Martin, Baglia, Taylor, Schaal, Gallemmo, Manderine, both Fortunatos and Just all healthy and ready to go for the second half of the season. That's a damn good core of guys. Worst case Green goes into the playoffs at 5-5, but I think 6-4 or 7-3 is more likely.
Avantae loss hurts but Johnson is a very very good back up for GO. He ran for well over 200 against Hoover. There is very little drop off. Let's hope Avantae's injury isn't serious. Is Green good at stopping the run? If so, they have a shot if they're not great there then it could be a long night.

Green's defense is excellent against the pass but just okay against the run. The defensive front did a great job against Dover and South Range but couldn't stop McKinley's rushing attack.

Basketball. Both teams are really good and it encourages all-sports participation.
Jackson has a lot more kids, I wouldn't put Jackson that far ahead of Green in basketball and definitely would put Lake behind them in basketball?
IMO Lake basketball is and has been down in basketball the past 4-5 years.

OK, thanks for the feedback. I think GO had 370 rushing yds vs Hoover. Doesn't sound like a good match up for Green especially with the starting QB out but that's why you play them. Knowing this I'd lean GO winning this game but maybe it will be like the Lake game where GO out gained them by 200 yds and lost by 3.

Hey look the Jackson fan lives up to their stereotype. Garbage people who have a grossly inflated sense of themselves. Treat everyone from the "city" as beneath them. You didn't have to dig too far into your personality to make those posts. I bet you use the n-word a lot. Money obviously doesn't buy class.
Money can buy you a good exterminator..

Jackson will probably never amount to much in football. Tonight is a perfect example. Jackson does not have the fight or physically. Expect everything given to them, as well as the football program becoming good ole boys club.. they pushed out a coach after their first play off win.. youth board has some type of coaching position from top to bottom.. “minister of culture” is also one of your biggest sponsors. Stick to basketball and baseball.

Sorry your kid didn't play Brick. I'm sure they'll take the advice from an internet rando and stick to basketball and baseball. You don't sound like you have an agenda at all. LOL

I mentioned this on the Green vs GlenOak thread but I thought it was so crazy more people might find it interesting. The local bookies had GlenOak getting 21 points against Green and Perry also getting an unbelievable 21 against Louisville. For fun I think I'll post the feature games lines next week before the games start.

Eh, I'm not as down on Jackson as some of you. They still have a high ceiling and ran into some excellent LBs tonight. I don't think anyone would be surprised if they put up 40 next week. I'll take a 12 point loss versus how bad it could've been otherwise. The Bears availed themselves well against a team that might now be the favorite to win the Fed.

Pasteur had Perry winning by 25.
All of us knew Green wasn't going to win by 21 since they lost their QB.
Not sure who your bookies are

Did Hunka play the whole game at QB for Green?
How did he look?
Is he a good enough athlete to run too?
I didn't see anything in the write ups from Martin. Is he healthy?

Hunka played the whole game. He had one bad int early but other than that looked all right. He was accurate and a good runner too, but is small (5-9, 155) and can't throw deep very well. I think he's going to be very good for Green the next two years, especially if he gets bigger.

Martin is healthy as far as I know. He caught a TD in the second quarter and had a big punt return in the fourth. Green only threw 21 times, so none of the receivers put up huge numbers. Manderiene had the most receiving yards with 64.
