Concerts. 2021 and beyond.

Saw Depeche Mode at Rocket Mortgage on Friday night.

Opening act was DIIV, a band I'd never heard of. They were ok, some interesting music but their microphones were terrible. You really couldn't understand anything they spoke, let alone sing.

DM came on about 8:40 and while Dave Gahan and Martin Gore are in their 60's, they sounded amazing. Gahan didn't stop moving the entire show. They played 23 songs spanning their career with 4 songs from their latest album, which is actually good but people wanted to hear the old stuff. The stage and lighting was excellent, they engaged the crowd quite a bit and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there.

Played several different versions of some of their old songs which was great. It has been amazing to see this band in the 80's as a synth band and how they've evolved. Overall just a great show and they clearly still have gas in the tank.
I almost pulled the trigger on side stage seats for this show released morning of the show, $50 including fees in the club level, my worry was that the synth sound just doesn't translate as well 40 years later. Glad it was a good show and will definitely check out their set if they appear at one of the festivals I might see in '24.

I have been behind on concert announcements but a couple big country acts released dates early November:

Chris Stapelton has a great tour scheduled next year with some solid openers, too bad it is selling out in the sheds/arenas and if you want to go to Blossom's show on 5/31 get ready to pay for $120 + fees for resale tickets on the lawn. Kudos for playing smaller markets like Toledo too.

Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney & Uncle Kracker have put together a stadium tour, no Ohio Dates as of yet:

Alot of the songs have Martin playing guitar. After the opening act, I was a bit worried about the sound, but they sounded incredible.

Like Stapleton but don't think I'd enjoy a concert of his, bit too mellow. Always wanted to see Chesney and this one may be it.

I have seen Chris Stapleton and he puts on a solid live show. Maybe not as amped up as some of the acts you like to see but the band is rock solid and not only does his voice sound good but he is an excellent guitarist. Add in some really well crafted songs and you have a good evening of entertainment. I would recommend seeing him.

I heard on the announcement show that Eddie trunk hosted that Alex doesn't return any calls, texts, or emails from Sammy. Evidently just not interested. Hopefully he comes out for a show or two even if to just play a couple of songs.

Yea, heard that as well! They were promoting it pretty hard playing asssearly on the stern show and an early morning recording for trunk's show.

Wonder if Diamond Dave will have a hissy fit or try to be included

I love Dave's era but he can't sing any longer. Sammy can still sing. I watched some of the last VH tour with Dave and it was bad. The music was great, singing bad.

Hall and Oates news on Eddie Trunk and other rock news

Nov 27th around a half hour in.
As I speculated because I am, of course, thavoice of everything, has to come down to $$ as Oates is trying to do a deal to sell his portion the hall and oates empire/publishing/catalog. Hall is against the deal and the restraining order blocks it.

Also, Oates wants go out and do his own shows and Hall is blocking some songs that he can play when he does his own shows.

Now you know.....the rest of the story.

Eddie Trunk, the rock music RainMan

His 40th anniversary in rock is I believe this weekend in Vegas.

Side notes....>Kiss. Paul Stanley has been sick and cancelled some shows in Canada. Doubt he can make them up.

Also........Gene or Paul has recently stated that they are done touring (in makeup) and the last two words made a lot of people wonder, Trunk included!

Don Felder was in the Eagles, Don Henley sacked him.

Shane McCowan of the Pogues died apparently.
Wasnt a huge fan per se but loved their "Christmas Song" called Fairytale of New York that I bust out every Christmas.

Just hearing it on Trunks Show. Guess it is only 4 shows and they state each show will be different set lists.
Most speculated it would be them, but a lot more shows.
In true jam band form they always play different set lists so that is not new, Metallica famously made fun of them and then decided to start doing this as part of 2 show runs:

Phish also have by far the best light show out on the road now so it will be interesting to see how they incorporate this into the Sphere shows.

Rumors are that some acts approached are afraid to play the Sphere, pop acts in particular are worried the stage is set up so there is basically no where to hide and that the sound is so good any lip synching or fake instrument playing will be exposed quickly. A few of acts I think could do well in this type of venue:

Tool
Pearl Jam
The Cure
The Killers
Zac Brown Band

If I'm going to a show I wanna hear their best sk no way was I going to that Metallica. Had a chance at free ticket couple weeks ago foe then and passed mostly because of that.

Didn't think if that about tracks and rhe sphere.....probably true!

Listening to Frehely on the show now...he days he doesn't care he's not involved with the final, so called shows of Kiss but his tone tells me different

Did Brian hack your acct :)

I am the opposite, I want the band to play what they want to play so they are engaged and giving me their best effort. Also the surprise factor of what you are/are not going to hear and changing up location in the set list makes you come back for more. To me hearing that same tune at the same point of a set year after year just isn't my thing. If I am REO Speedwagon and have to close a show with Riding the Storm Out every time I would lose my mind, I get they have to play it for their crowd but at least move it around a bit. I guess different strokes for different folks...

Got me a pair of Lucky Dip tickets for the Stones show in CLE, one of the coolest and best values in live music:

A limited number of tickets will be sold at $39.50 plus service charges. Lucky Dip ticket locations will be throughout the venue, including “Limited View Upper Level”, and “PIT”. Strict anti-scalper measures will ensure that the tickets go to Stones fans and not the resale market. Lucky Dip tickets are sold only in pairs, 2 ticket limit per person, with seat location revealed night-of-show. Pick-up tickets night of show only, in person, with picture ID, confirmation number, and the credit card used at purchase. Once you have the tickets in hand, you may be escorted into the venue. Any reselling or transfer of these tickets will void them with no refund.

Just popped up for free tickets to Metallica for Friday or Sunday in Detroit.
Friday is out due to football.
Debating Sunday but Im likely seeing Dokken Saturday but quite honestly with how Metallica is doing this tour I think I will decline. For those who dont know, they are playing Fri/Sun in the same cities, but two completely different sets with no repeated songs so that means no matter which night you go to you will miss a number of their hits.

Think that makes the decision easy.

Went to both nights and Sunday was easily the best night. They opened the show with Whiplash, From Whom The Bells tolls and Ride The Lightening.

Highlight of Friday was getting to hear Orion along with Creeping Death. Oh and a really good set from “pantera”

Bonnaroo announced today, I don't get why these former rock festival went in a rap/r&b/pop direction. Hard pass for me:

Billy Strings announced some more spring dates yesterday and he is playing 2 dates at Rupp Arena. Just think, this is a traditional Blue Grass act playing multiple dates in a large arena, in 2022 he was playing theaters.
