I’m no longer a big NBA regular season guy as for using it as a measuring stick, because the NBA is truly about the playoff grind, but I do watch a lot of the Cavs games for entertainment and to see how I think they might do in the postseason. I’ll reserve judgment until I see what this team does when the league picks up after the all star break and gears toward playoff mode, but it’s hard not to be encouraged by Atkinson’s usage of the roster and playing to the strengths of the roster as opposed to making it play to the coach’s preference. The strength of this group has always been scoring. JB wanted them to be a defensive force, which retarded the advantage these guys had. Atkinson wants basic D, but he also is going to pressure opponents by making them keep up with the Cavs scoring. That’s smart coaching. Do what you do best and make the other team chase you.
