The beat goes on

A 61-47 win in the Euclid District against Mayfield last night means there still is a heartbeat in the Comet boys basketball unit. Balanced scoring among the players and good scoring in each quarter including a good start and a good finish. Mayfield's kid (Koski) got his 18 but Solon had too much. Now it will be a Friday evening matchup with #21 ranked Shaw.

It was exactly five weeks ago that I posted and implored the need for a better start - some first half scoring. This has improved at times only to see the finish come up short. Last night against Mayfield the team played better than the #25 ranking they earned. Too bad it was the final ranking because this school should do better and now the District is the only way to say so! The only way to redemption.

Go Comets! Beat Shaw!

Let spring sports begin

The Solon Comet boys basketball season ended at the hands of a hot-shooting Shaw team. Solon's 61 points, was enough to do in Mayfield but 62 points, 23 by D.J.Waldon, was far short of the 73 that Shaw put up.

I suspect that fouling late in the game by the Comets led to the disparity in free throws. Shaw's Talton made 13 himself against the Comet's total 12 charity baskets. When you're hot - you're hot, and Shaw was - only missing one FG and one FT in the final 8 minutes.

Solon ends with a winning record of 12-10 but we and probaly the team too feels that some games slipped away at the end or started too late. Seemed like one or the other. I follow a local college team that sometimes has the same problem which can show up anywhere.

Sorry that I can't urge or implore you guys anymore. Stuck with you till the end but we now must move on to spring sports. Yes, spring will come but it is presently lost somewhere south of Florida right now.

Good luck to Solon and all of it's loyal fans.

Well, same old-same old!

Well Gramps, the Comet hoopsters think you're swell. :) I really believe that they underachieved, but many feel they overachieved. Go figure.
