Back to the Central District

Looks like Centerville handled UA pretty easily: C-ville wins 6 individual events and 2 of the relays. Central District is definately down this year.

Central Standouts

Here we are approaching three weeks before the Districts and based on the rankings the Central District only has one swimmer who is ranked 1st in two individual events, Lancaster's Chris Depietro. Some interesting rankings:

Depietro, highest rankings with 1,1,3,3
Neri, most versatile, 2,2,3,5,10
Alfonso, 1,2,4,5,9
Dolgov, 1,5,6,10,10
Reeder, 1,2,7
Long, 1,2,8
Adam Rabe, 3 3,5,9,
Reardon, 2,6,7,10

The top six on this list are potential double winners.

Hey preeder, notice which team's swimmers dominate your list!

I don't think anybody is questioning whether UA is going to win the Central District. Overall everybody is pointing out that they are in trouble at the State Meet which I believe you have guarenteed a 3rd place or better.

I think the individual swims will be more interesting than the final team score. There is the possibility of several different swims than last year. What will Dmitri Dolgov and Chris DePietro choose to swim based on state rankings? What will UA have Sean Neri, Joey Long and Ryan Cutler swim? St Charles could easily move Brian Willi and Orion Swanson to new events as well. Lots of choices for the coaches, which will make for an interesting meet

Absolutely the most interesting aspect of the meet. Will Depietro return in the IM, when Dolgov is planning on going 1:53 (as quoted in an news article) if Depietro can win the 200 or the 500. Just predicting times, Long should be at 1:40 at Districts, so does Depietro stick the the 500 to be more competitive? Neri has options as well, but the 200 and back seem more likely. Cutler has been 53 in fly, but I see him sticking to the 200/500. Not sure where Swanson goes, saw a fast IM out of him in Canton last week. Willi looks to try the 50 and the fly, but back to back events are tough. Seems like Adam Rabe may take a shot at the 50 because you always have seniors who want that event. But Rabe has been 1:56 in the IM and under 1:00 in breaststroke (and his brother will be in the 50). But, does he want to get in with both of Dolgov's events?

Central District Flu

We have at least 7 swimmers who got the flu on Saturday. Heard reports from Dublin and Westerville of the same. Anyone heard anything else. Hope the kids are back up to speed by Friday.

flu

Yes a very virulent stomach flu is making the rounds. Have heard reports from Westerville and others. WASH YOUR HANDS. The only good news is that I hear it is fast and furious but not long lasting

Is this the same kind of flu that hit the week of men's NCAA last year at OSU?

I thought that the NCAA stomach issue was traced back to all those teams on the same flight in to Columbus?

Saw a report on the news tonight that the health department is looking into it, but if you have a few sick kids, then pack them into a warm pool all day, it is bound to spread. It does seem to come and go very quickly. My kids were sick Monday morning and feel much better today.

This situation does seem to warrant a similar investigation as the one during the NCAAs. At this point, a commonly shared food source at the venue must also be considered since the timing of the onset was so immediate.

My experience is the same as preeder61's. The athletes I'm aware of only eat and drink things they bring in with them, so my guess is it's something else.
