Agreed 1000 percent on Kings. Didn't mean to leave them out.
Can we just appreciate multiple teams without tearing others down. Kings had a better year than people thought, but so did Walnut and WC. Don’t act like WC didn’t go 12-4 in one of the toughest leagues. Lets just appreciate all the good teams we have left and enjoy the tournament.Kings is the ECC team you should be shouting out.
They went and played Wayne, Bellbrook, and Fairmont and beat Lakota West.
West Clermont is riding the advantage of playing a non conference schedule of Talawanda, Seton, Mt. Healthy, and Ursuline to get a high seed resulting in wins over Middletown and Northwest in the tourney? I’d hope they’d be in a sectional final.
Walnut non conference schedule not much better: Middletown, Mt. Healthy?
Didn’t expect Walnut to be in a sectional final but not sure what to be impressed with unless one of those 2 make it to a district game, which on paper WC should as the higher seed…
I want the ECC to be as successful as possible!! Live in the Kings school district which is why I was perplexed that they were left out of the conversation. But I’ve also had family play in the GMC, and the lack of out of conference schedule has caught up with West Clermont and Walnut for years while the GMC plays for regional championships consistently. Kings played tough out of conference schedule last year which set them up for a regional appearance. Walnut consistently plays Woodward, West High, Trotwood, etc even when they were loaded. WC consistently plays Seton, Ursuline, Western Brown, CCD, and this year Talawanda and Mt. Healthy coming off an undefeated season and don’t play a non conference team ranked higher than 19 in Cincinnati? Can we just appreciate multiple teams without tearing others down. Say what you will about how weak WC non conference schedule was but they’ve had a good season. And a few of you predicted it to be a lot worse. They lost 5 starters from last year, and despite how weak their non conference schedule was, they went up to Classic in the City just expecting to compete; and took a very talented Kings Christian Collegiate to overtime and beat a tough Canal Winchester team. I’d say they’ve had a better season than a lot of y’all expected.I want the ECC to be as successful as possible!! I will give credit where it’s due, the ECC is a gauntlet, WW, WC, Milford, Walnut, Kings, Lebanon all had great years, it’s just tough to see some of those schools fail to make it to a district or even a sectional final every single year and we sit here and say yeah but the ECC is deep when they refuse to play anyone outside of the league to test themselves outside of Winton Woods, Lebanon and Kings.
All the Southwest D1 sectional final matchups are set. Anyone have any predictions or do any of the computer people have point spreads or anything?Goshen beats Lebanon in OT 74-72 on buzzer beater.
Cannot wait for Tuesday at Middletown with WC v Kings at 530 and WW v Lakota East at 730. Kings and WC will be VERY emotional game I think with what happened last year and so far this year, it will be interesting to see how esports WC handles it. For the second game I think we may be getting one of the best games of the year with Winton Woods and Lakota East going at it for the second time this year but East did not run anything the last time around because this playoff matchup will be set already. I do not know who will these matchups but I will definitely be there to see. Here were my pre tourney Sectional Predictions & (Now Set) Finals Predicted Winners

N2: Springfield over Centerville. Can a 12 seed make it to a District Final? Tolliver’s ENTHUSIASM is working for Wildcats
S3: Goshen over Mason. Announced their entrance into SW OH D1 basketball lore w Buzzer beater win over Lebanon.
Is it setting up for a “magical” run for this squad?
West Clermont's Varsity roster consists of 8 sophomores and a freshmen. They have won 19 games so far this season in what can only described as a rebuilding year. They only lose two girls to graduation. Click will probably stick around a couple more years to see Layla Hale graduate. Don't know what kind of non conference schedule they'll play in the future, but I think they'll be OK........Say what you will about how weak WC non conference schedule was but they’ve had a good season. And a few of you predicted it to be a lot worse. Agree w the Springboro call out. Class of Dayton area by far!Went up to Troy today.
Springboro is really good, especially their starting five. I have been following them closely all season with the them letting Benjamin go and the hiring process that took place after that. They went with an in house choice who had never been a head girls coach before.
They are playing as expected. They need to at least win against Winton Woods or Lakota East to make the admins decision feel like it was needed. They lost last year to Mason in the districts with no seniors on the team. I would think most expected them to get to the regionals this year with the whole team coming back.
I would say if Springboro gets to the final four it was a great hire. If they win the district, it is a push. If they lose in the district, it was a poor decision. All this could also change as you will have one more year with Wade, Martin and Trent.
Butler. What can you say. It is just a different level. They will be one of the schools that could benefit from the new seven division format. They might be able to compete with the top of d two and the small d one schools.
Centerville is so steady. They are not that talented this year. Probably the fourth best team in the Gwoc this year. But here they are back at districts. Benefactors of some strange draw placements and an unfortunate injury.
But give the Elks credit. Extremely well coached and ready to take advantage of an opportunity when given. Steady is a great word to describe them. You could have gotten some good odds this year that they would make it back to districts. They should not be able to keep it that close against Mason, but that should not take away from them getting out. If they get Goshen, they could win another game.
Springfield is headed in the right direction. Extremely young team. Tolliver’s energy is awesome. They play pretty hard. If they can channel all that energy and effort in the right direction, they could be pretty good the next two seasons. Finally some hope for the Wildcats. Three pretty good sophomores to build around.
I know they were extremely frustrated with the officiating. It was fine. They have to learn how to play pressure defense without fouling so much. More feet and less hands. That can be taught and should improve as they get older.
Good luck moving forward to all teams. Hoping for great games and no injuries.
But she left Walnut for the educational opportunities elsewhere!Final: MND 55 - Walnut 47
Equally huge amounts of missed layups and contact fouls doomed the Eagles in this one
Still a great season for them after having their best player from last year poached
Springboro-Winton Woods will be the highlight of district day! Looking forward to it! Both incredibly motivated and will be curious to see if Springboro can take the next step!Agree w the Springboro call out. Class of Dayton area by far!
After seeing that class (Martin, Trent….) as Freshmen, predicted they would be a threat to win State this season (their jr years).
Springboro HAS to want Mason…they’ve lost in District Finals to them last 3 years in a row.
And in regular season 2 of last 3 years, prior to this season.
First, my take on MND wasn’t to bash the coach. He made a couple of adjustments that sparked their comeback. However, his team played tight and missed a lot of gimme’s. He was more animated than I’ve seen and didn’t wear his emotions particularly well. He’s young and will learn his emotions contribute to his team’s performance.Princeton and MND unimpressive? I’ve seen both play and watched MND at Winton Woods and at Lakota East and seemed like the coach was a step ahead of Wallace and Gray in both games as a first year coach. Harsh words for a team that beat WW and East on the Road + the 2 and 3 seed from Dayton. May not have a superstar on that team but they seem balanced and judging by the draw, no one wanted to play them (no one went in until #14). 22-3 with arguably the hardest non league schedule in Cincinnati outside of East?
Also judging by the box score Princeton pounded Ross last night? I agree Mason can beat anyone but wouldn’t want to be the team tasked with knocking Princeton. Inside-Outside game with Gerton and Fortson is hard to handle, plus they have the pedigree of playing in big games. Watched them against East and they have the potential to win it all again.
I agree. MND lack of star power could catch up with them. They don’t have a power 5 player on their roster, but their depth and balance is what has gotten them to where they are. Being 22-3 playing their schedule without the luxury of having a Gerton, Parrish, Trent, Martin, Trammell, etc with big time offers with a first year coach is impressive. Will need some players to play above their normal to continue their run, and will be curious if Bransford can handle the go-to role if needed.First, my take on MND wasn’t to bash the coach. Second, this MND team doesn’t have a real identity. They do a lot of things well but nothing exceptionally well. Their defense might be their greatest strength, but they still give up a lot of points to good teams. If they give up 50+ I don’t see this team beating Mason, Princeton, Springboro, and maybe WW a second time. Also, their out of conference schedule was strong, but 2 of 3 Dayton teams you mentioned are already out. This team looked better earlier in the year and might be trending in the wrong direction. I still like them to beat Wayne on Saturday, but we’ll see where they stand afterwards.
Finally, Princeton isn’t the same team that won it last year. If Gerton is left open and on they’re really hard to beat. But she’s shown to be inconsistent at times struggling to knock down a 3 like last night. Her and Fortson could have sat out and they still beat Ross. I don’t feel Princeton is trending up or down just coasting. I’m waiting for them to turn it up and show me why they’re the defending state champions. I think Coach Davis will have them ready for better competition but last night I expected to see a glimpse of it.
Like I said, anyone is beatable and I’m looking forward to some great games to decide region 4. Upsets are forthcoming.
Kings showing the RPI seeding system was flawed. So far, they've easily handled the #5 seed WC and #6 LW. A shame they didn't get to avoid Princeton this early but if any team in Cincinnati has a chance at knocking them out, I think Kings stands a better chance than MND or Mason. I see Springboro vs Princeton/ Kings winner in Regional Finals.Special shout to Kings on their win last night! Replacing two four-year starting guards this year and running it back to a district final! Ingram has been huge and couldn’t be denied, and credit to coach Green for once again jumping into a gauntlet sectional as a lower seed and coming out on top!
Sounds like someone has sour grapes WOMP WOMP.But she left Walnut for the educational opportunities elsewhere!
You think Kings stands a better chance than Mason? The team that has already beat them and lost in OT to them. That's WILD!Kings showing the RPI seeding system was flawed. Yes, I do. Princeton has been on cruise control for a few weeks now, that is why I say Kings stands the best chance of any in knocking them out. I don't think we see a Mason vs Princeton Regional Final. If so, I would take Princeton by 10+.You think Kings stands a better chance than Mason?
