2025 Pittsburgh Steelers

Art II comes out saying all the wrong things to kick off another season of disappointment, no doubt. What an utter failure of an owner.

At least sorrows can be drowned a little in draft hype. Hoping they can address WR, CB, and either OL or Cam replacement on the DL in the first few rounds.

The Rams are shopping wr Cooper Kupp (age 31) who has 2 years left in his deal. Kupp is good friends with Rams qb Matt Stafford (age 36) who has 2 years left on his deal and has been rumored as possibly being available as well.

$$$ still to be paid out for each over the next 2 years:
Stanford: $27 mil & $31 mil
Kupp: $20 mil & $19.8 but only $5 mil of guarantee left

Each has higher cap hits each year but I have no idea how those hit the cap if either is traded.

I say go for it. Give up a 1st this year and next for both and try to get the Rams to take on some of the cap hit over the next two seasons. The Steelers basically have a 1st rd pick this year in last years OT who was hurt most of the year and wr Wilson.

Without a qb, the best the Steelers could do is what they did this year: playoffs and 1 and done. With Stafford, he still is playing at a very high level.

there is about a 0.0% chance of this happening.

Antonio Brown……there is little doubt of his HOF level talent & production. At times I believe….
* Tomlin enabled Brown far too much which led to his demise with Pittsburgh
* Tomlin was a genius to get 8 very productive years out of Brown

I guess both things can be true.

Probably to no one’s surprised, Brown is broke.

Out of the 2 scenarios regarding AB & Tomlin, I lean towards your second one. AB was a knucklehead way before getting drafted. Squeezing 8 productive years, when the other squads got minimal, is a feather in MT 's cap.
It is near impossible to have empathy for AB. At least the other superstars waited about 5-7 years to go broke😄. I hope podcasting pays his bills. Cause there is zero way he is a paid coach or an analyst for any credible network

Tomlin gets zero credit for AB lol

Brown worked incredibly hard to perfect his skillset and that had nothing to do with Tomlin. He was no more or less a head case than some other diva WRs until after the Burfict head shot. For whatever reason, he went quickly off the rails after that season.

Tomlin’s inability to crack down on nonsense led to the dissolution of the best trio of offensive talent of all time when he had Ben, Le’veon Bell, and AB in their primes (when still he couldn’t win jack shyte).

So do you believe it’s all about the players and has little to nothing to do with the coaches? Brady succeeded and Belichick was along for the ride? Hines Ward, Big Ben & the Steeler D won the SB vs Seattle and Cower was riding out his time?

And just what exactly did Le’Veon Bell & AB do after they left Pittsburgh?

I do agree that Tomlin deserves some criticism for allowing AB to get to the point he was. I do not recall Bell being a malcontent on the field, his disgruntlement was mainly because of his contract. I do not place any of this on Tomlin.

In the NFL, players develop the bulk of their skillsets themselves in the off-season with various trainers. During the season there's very little of that going on from the head coach - positions coaches exist for that reason, and it's no surprise our WR development has declined since Drake passed.

It doesn't matter what they did after, it matters what they were doing here.

Absolutely it’s on the players to improve in the offseason and most of the credit should go to them for that. Thats just the physical, the mental aspect during the season and keeping a player engaged, out of trouble and handling the player who may have transgressions I believe does fall to the coaches & HC in particular. AB went to Western Michigan and was drafted in the 6th round - both are pretty low standards for a guy who put up HOF numbers. AB has been a head case his whole life and to get almost a decade of stability out of him off the field deserves some acknowledgement.

During AB’s rookie season Tomlin had AB & Emanuel Sanders compete each week to see who would be the point returner, the loser was often inactive for that weeks game. After the Steelers could not come to terms with with wr Mik Wallace on an extension they offered the sane to AB who took it. Former Steeler Ryan Clark had a story on AB shortly after he signed the dea where he cussed out DC Dick LaBeau.

I do believe Tomlin am should get some blame for AB near the end of his Steeler tenure but I think he also deserves some credit, I believe few HC could have gotten what Tomlin did out of AV for as long as he did.

..And thats just the point WJ Ohio Steelers is making. AB and Leveon werent as productive after they left. They werent old by NFL standards. No reason to believe they stopped workung in the off season The common denominator is the organization

AB was lighting it up with Brady he just lost his mind and of course Bell’s production went down he signed with the gd Jets lol

The Jets are moving on from Aaron Rodgers and they will most likely will do the same with wr Davante Adams. Adams is from the west coast so I don’t know how interested he would be coming to Pittsburgh. Rodgers wil go to whomever is willing to give him a starting spot and will probably sign a 1 year contract similar to what Russel Wilson did last year. Resign Fields (probably 1 year @ $7 mil) and draft either the Oregon or OSU qb. Then hope the rookie actually pans out or, draft another qb in 2026.

heard the Steelers actually reached out to Jags about trading for Lawrence.

and absolutely NO on Rodgers coming to Pittsburgh. that dude is done. just retire, buddy.

With the release of OLB Preston Smith the Steelers now have a projected $53.2 mil in cap space for 2025 which is the 8th most in the league. The Steelers could clear more cap space by releasing:
* LB Cole Holcomb - $6 mil cap savings
* DT Larry Ogunjobi - $7 mil cap savings
* RB Cordell Patterson - $2.8 mil
* DT Dean Lowery - $2.5 mil

This additional $18.2 mil cap savings would push the Steelers to $71.4 mil which would be the 4th most in the league.

The Steelers could also restructure/extend the contracts of TJ Watt and Minks Fitzpatrick. Just signing guys at current fair market value for past production is not always the best way to improve. But the $12 mil or so cap hit the Eagles took in signing Barkley or the Ravens took in signing Henry made great differences for those teams in 2024.

This is a comp for a possible contract extension offer to wr George Pickens. It’s a 4 year $60.2 mil with $30 mil guaranteed. Do you take a chance on Pickens at this price or go get a free agent that will cost $25+ mil per year for 4 years? Can’t believe I’m saying this but if Pickens would accept a deal like Buffalo's Shakir, I’d do it.

Pickens is an incredible talent but a mental midget. If the Steelers do expend Pickens I’d look at signing a vet (Cooper Kupp) and maybe draft OSU wr Emeka. Both solid people to put around Pickens.

Deebo for a 5th rounder? I'd have given up a 4th for him to upgrade our WR room for sure. c'mon, Omar.

all those "changes" that we were told about? yeah. whatever.

Lots of potential WR free agents on the market. Steelers should be able to find one or two they like. Would be nice to get the QB situation cleared up first.

The Seattle Seahawks are trading wide receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are signing the two-time Pro Bowler to a five-year, $150 million contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Steelers are sending a second-round draft pick to the Seahawks and flipping picks with Seattle in the sixth and seventh rounds, sources said.
Just saw this on ESPN. I like the deal. Flipping 6th/7th round picks I would guess has the Steelers picking before the Seahawks. DK and Pickens is a nice duo but who’s going to throw the ball?

Metcalf will be 28 thru 31 during the contract and he has been very durable during his 6 year career. He plays hard as evidence by his great 100+ yard run down of an Arizona DB on an interception. All in all not a bad deal for a 2nd round pick (53rd overall).

Reports are the Steelers will make a run at Sam Darnold. Not to thrilled for this but if it’s on the cheap, maybe it will be ok.

I’d guess the 1st round pick will now be either a DT, RB or CB. What will the Steelers do with TJ Watt? An extension will be close to $40 mil a year. Will they keep Pickens or trade him and draft a wr?

this DK trade really doesn't excite me until they figure out their QB and an OLine to protect him, otherwise he can't get the ball to DK or GP or whoever.

I would have been fine with Fields but with DK and GP we need a dude who can MAKE THROWS, and that just isn't Fields. if we were building our offense around more of a running QB then i'd give Fields a chance. it's more likely Darnold doesn't come to Pitt (which I'm fine with). i'm not a fan of Darnold at all. maybe one more year with Russ or is there some plan to find some young QB in this draft that they actually like, like Dart? I don't know. not getting too excited until I see what they do with the QB room.

Pittsburgh Tribune says the Steelers will offer Sam Darnold a contract, probably today. Not sure how I feel about this guess we will wait and see 🤷🏼‍♂️
