The Steelers signing of rb Kenneth Gainwell (5’9”, 200 lbs) I believe is just a depth piece behind Warren. In 4 years Gainwell has never had more than 74 carries, 364 yards, 33 receptions, 253 yards rec.
Here is the stats of two starting NFL qbs last season:
A) 368-584, 63.0%, 3897 yards, 6.7 yards per attempt, 28 td, 11 int, 40 sacks for 302 yards lost, 22 rush, 107 rush yards, 0 rush td’s, 17 games started
B) 382-581, 67.5%, 3928 yards, 6.8 yards per attempt, 26 td, 11 int, 36 sacks for 239 yards lost, 58 rush, 307 rush yards, 2 rush td’s, 16 games started
Pretty similar stats, nothing really stands out between the two. A is Aaron Rodgers, B is Patrick Mahomes. Obviously Mahomes is far better than Rodgers at this point in their careers and the win/loss was quite different between the two. However, Rodgers can still sling it. Besides being 42, Rodgers doesn’t provide the rushing threat or Tush Push element.
I just do not want the Steelers to over extend themselves financially for Rodgers or Wilson, neither are the long term answer. Take a flyer on a rookie qb in the 3rd or 4th round or maybe trade for NE Joe Milton. If they do not strike lightning in a bottle they will be drafting a QB in 2026 which is projected to be a much stronger qb draft class.
I love the cap situation for Pittsburgh this year and the next two. The draft picks & compensatory picks for 2026 look to be good. The last two draft classes have been good. Kahn is doing the right things, he made two good inseason trades last year so he’s trying to win now but I believe is doing a good job of setting up long term continued success. Just have to get lucky on finding a quality QB.
