2024 Toledo Central Catholic Football

Well said. The only push back I have is that an executive airport wouldn't cut it. I'm not quite part of the "executive level" but routinely travel across North America for work flying about 10 times a year. I have a 60 mile drive from Perrysburg to DTW, it's not very convenient and isn't ideal when I'm going to the western states & provinces.
I agree on the airport. I wish Toledo Intercontinental (as it was called then) was expanded. It's much closer to the population centers of our areas instead of the current airport bordering very rural Fulton County.

BUT, I must say, another argument is that Toledo already does have a great airport. It's just located in Romulus. It does take 45-60 minutes to get there, for sure. But, I go to Houston a lot and it takes that or longer to get to IAH or Hobby from the west side of the city, where a lot of the growth is. Atlanta is similar in that a lot of the growth is in the north but the airport is in the south of the city.

I agree with @eastisbest on much of what he is saying about the management of our city in comparison to others.

The Toledo Airport location was about as bad as they could have chosen. Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing and when the decision was made the SW corridor is where everyone was supposed to move. They didn't. Most have to use a toll road (turnpike) to access and the drive to Detroit is not bad when considering you can get a fairly cheap direct flight just about anywhere.

Had they expanded the executive airport by Lake HS, like they were considering, Toledo would be better off.

Some context as to why the airport location was chosen. The local governments couldn't get it done so 6 companies teamed up to buy the land to build the airport. I'm thinking it was Owens-Illinois, Owens Corning, Libbey-Owens-Ford, Dana, Kaiser-Jeep, and Autolite. But I'm not sure on all 6 of them.

Hillsdale is D2. I think you know that and simply mistyped.

Singleton committed to Illinois today. To be honest, I am a bit surprised. I expected him to pick a higher profile program.

My guess is that he wanted to be somewhat closer to home. Also, perhaps he wanted to stand out more in a good program instead of blending in at a dominate program.

Singleton had offers to
  1. Big 10 (11 schools): Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio St., Oregon, Penn St., Purdue, Wisconsin
  2. SEC (6 schools): Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi St., Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M
  3. MAC (4 schools): Akron, BGSU, Kent St., Toledo
  4. Big 12 (3 schools): Arizona St., Cincinnati, West Virginia
  5. ACC (2 schools): Louisville, Pitt

Singleton really liked the Illinois coaching staff. Relationships still matter in recruiting

Corey Parker is the corners coach at Illinois now and he was previously at UT. He has done a great job of connecting with kids, specifically kids from the city, in Toledo and Detroit. He was a high school coach at River Rouge and turned around a tough situation there. I know there are people in NW Ohio that have felt like UT has underrecruited the area and Toledo specifically (fair or not), but Parker did a great job of calming some of those concerns.
