2024 Toledo Central Catholic Football

Listened to part of the game against Lutheran West. 42-0 at halftime with a running clock in the second quarter that was agreed to by both coaches.

I really don't like the 16 team format for football. Although there were a few upsets by teams that wouldn't have been in the playoffs in the old system, I don't think its worth it to have an extra week of football that isn't needed and have a way too high percentage of blowouts. Also, 16 straight weeks of football is something that even the NFL doesn't do. They have bye weeks whereas these high school kids do not. I think its time to go back to the previous playoff format.

Another opponent with an awesome logo and helmet. Also another running clock game, but damn thats a cool logo 😂

Victor Singleton picked up his 24th offwr yesterday: Arizona St.

His list of offers is below. Overall its 11 Big 10 schools, 5 SEC schools, 4 MAC schools, 3 Big 12 schools, and 1 ACC school.

  • #21 Victor Singleton* DB offers: Akron; Arizona St.; BGSU; Cincinnati; Illinois; Indiana; Iowa; KSU; Kentucky; Michigan; Michigan St.; Mississippi St.; Missouri; Nebraska; Ohio St.; Oregon; Penn St.; Pitt; Purdue; Tennessee; Texas A&M; Toledo; West Virginia; Wisconsin

This has a familair ring to it. Didn't the north end italians, led by Pauli Arrivederchi (later shortened) beat the irish at Lexington?

TCC has a puncher's chance. That's about all I'm giving them.

Fryzel received an offer from Michigan St. today.

Updates on offers are on page 1 of this thread.

Catholic Central beat Belleville. That's a "wow."
One of my coworkers went to DCC and knows some people in their program. He has been telling me that is one of the best DCC teams in awhile. It makes TCC's loss to DCC not seem so bad.

Just saw the 2025 schedule on another thread. Very excited about the out of conference schedule with some really tough teams whose regular season records this year were a combined 25-3 (10-0 for Walsh, 8-1 for Mona Shores, 7-2 for Cass).

I am hoping week 6 can be filled with St. Eds or Massillon.

Edited with 2024 records as of 11/30/24: 76-32

Cass beat DCC and is playing for a 'chip, OLSM is also playing for a 'chip after beating UToledo commit (and son of Barry Sanders) Noah Sanders's Birmingham Groves team. That's a tough schedule even before adding that week six opponent.

Cass beat DCC and is playing for a 'chip,

With a Freshman QB. I guess that explains their struggles early season. Bryce Underwood part deux? They play Grand Rapids Burb Hudsonville. And MLK plays GR burb Zeeland West.

How the hell does Grand Rapids keep turning out so many amazing sports teams, have an amazing vibe downtown without a single D1 university, let alone two and why can't we do that? I know the answer is, our management leadership top-down is very weak and in-bred nepotized. We need someone that knows how and can recruit out of town talent. Maybe Dempsey could give up coaching and run for mayor.

and what the hell is Michigan doing right, that their play-offs are strongly competitive from second week out and ours are still having blow-outs?

Side note: Monroe St Mary's also in finals. Dempey must have missed a few. :D

Unfortunate, Michigan has all the evens on Friday, when your conference rivals that are still playing are scheduled.

Has Central made any scheduling with Indiana teams yet? Some real powerhouses there.

Toth would blitz, blitz, blitz every down. Insane.
Brownie has gotten away from that ever so slightly but they still bring the heat. Especially the CC patented two off the edge scheme. In 99% of the games the Irish play they have better guys and they send more of them at you than you can block. This is why CC linebackers who went on to play DI at the next level usually stunk. They never really learned to play LB in HS because they just blitzed every play (Thompson, Moses, Green, Sandwisch, Fields, etc.). And for this reason Toth and Brown would struggle at a public school coaching up average kids. Toth actually did struggle while at Strongsville and Eastlake North. Those consuming blitzes work nicely when you outdude everyone, not so much when you do not.

Didnt Sandwisch play at West Virginia? And Moses at Miami? Not sure what their careers were like in college.

Sandwich made it all the way through but I do not believe he ever started. I do not believe Moses and Fields ever finished at Miami of Ohio and Thompson went OSU, figured he would never play, transferred to JUCO, then to IU and never really played. Green went to UT, transferred to Ohio Dominican and played some DE.

Some more guys got offers today, but still only 2 seniors with D1 offers: Vaughn and Besteda (see post #2 in this thread).

D3 Co-Defensive Player of the Year; Victor Singleton DB

D3 All State First Team Offense: Tyler Morgan RB
D3 All State First Team Defense: Curtis Strode DL Victor Singleton DB

D3 All State Second Team Offense: Zenaje Liggons OL

D3 All State Honorable Mention Offense: Preston Fryzel WR
D3 All State Honorable Mention Defense: Michael Besteda LB

Wasn't Green the guy who was 19?

I think it's just due to the size of Grand Rapids, they have almost double the workforce that Toledo does per the BLS. Looking at the numbers they have a little higher percentage than us when it comes to manufacturing, finance & professional jobs as well. I've always said Toledo's biggest mistake is not having a legitimate airport, why put major offices in a city that you can hardly fly in and out of?

It could get pretty nit-picky I think. Grand Rapids proper has no where near the logistics geographicall as Toledo area. If we include BG to Monroe, which would be about equivalent to the schools I laid out, we'd still be close in overall. I'm sticking with; they are MUCH better managed as a city and their extra-curricular culture is top of the game.

An executive airport IN Lucas would have been a nice way to try and keep corporative offices in Toledo instead of relocating to other counties and Columbus. Ultimately, it's about taxes and mobility. That's where I think we weren't as progressive as GR, Dayton, Akron, Ft. Wayne...Detroit Metro Even at its optimal, revenue would pale compared to the overall logistical need. Akron and Michigan were very progressive in how they encourage small business to operate and incubate. IDK about the other places I listed.

More realistic opportunity I feel wasted, watching all these truck and package hubs end up in wood and monroe county is a real failure. As is failure to develop UT and BG educational opportunities downtown, Vistula or Eastside, with viable dorm space. The slow redevelopment of the former Jeep, the brouwnfields on the Eastside and handing over prime real estate to the richer county for a dollar because "it's too expensive to mow," speaks of elected leaders looking for the next landing spot. GR has downtown and high rise upper residential on the "poor" side of the river, giving easy access to educational and executive employment in the downtown and keeping the tax base close.

We're getting there but the iron may already be cooling. Monroe county is the one that put itself in position to beenfit from the new bridge. Michigan putting in whole new highway the entire stretch.

Well said. The only push back I have is that an executive airport wouldn't cut it. I'm not quite part of the "executive level" but routinely travel across North America for work flying about 10 times a year. I have a 60 mile drive from Perrysburg to DTW, it's not very convenient and isn't ideal when I'm going to the western states & provinces.
