2024 St. Ignatius Football

I find it interesting this thread which started out as a discussion of the Ignatius football team has turned into a discussion about the "soul" of Ignatius as a whole. As stated by several Ignatius alums on this post, I believe Ignatius has lost its way. When I first went to Ignatius in 1961, the school's body was made of kids from the middle class, more often the lower middle class. Most of the kids in my homeroom would later become the first boys in their families to attend college. Tuition was $300 per year, and it was a sacrifice for their families to pay that.

Now the tuition is now in excess of $20K. I find it hard to believe that the education provided to today's Ignatius students is nearly 70 times superior than the education I received at Ignatius. The school now seems to be about money and nothing else. The ungodly tuition, the constant hyping of its endowment, the petty treatment of the SIBN students merely for the sake of grubbing for more dollars, etc. Because of education I received at Ignatius, I received a college scholarship which eventually led to a more than respectable career in law and a financially comfortable life. In turn, I have been very generous toward Ignatius over the years. NO LONGER!
Fantastic assessment. I wish my Dad was still here to discuss exactly this, I was in the 90s, he in the 50s. I find I have said that too many times in the last 7 years

The administration and Board are well aware of

They do to the tune of ~$5 million per year, the maximum annual amount that they can.

missed the point, limiting in the bylaws is a way to hang on to the money, so giving away a very little of a lot is real charity, wow!

I'm sure you understand that your teachers probably had less than $20k salaries that got them by at the time. Today, they have to pay teachers $80k-$90k if they want to keep good ones, and with today's cost of living that really isn't much. I don't blame Ignatius for the tuition, it has risen with inflation like everything else. The school still provides the best of the best in terms of education. I went to Ignatius 20 years ago and it was 85% suburban kids. 10% Westpark. 5% City of Cleveland. That isn't new.
Teachers would've been making far less than $20k in the early '60s, probably closer to $5k for any lay teachers and maybe just spending money for any religious instructors. I would also ask how many lay teachers a school like Ignatius would've had back in the early '60s? The Catholic HS I'm most familiar with was primarily staffed by nuns and brothers during that era, and most parochial grade schools were primarily staffed by nuns. That is an extremely cheap source of labor which helped suppress the cost of a Catholic education vs. an all-lay staff.

Just another indication that Franzinger decided to build up with underclassmen so that they would be experienced by the time they were upperclassmen - pretty much the opposite philosophy of the Kyle years, which was senior driven. So, to the powers to be, the losses are acceptable during the complete teardown of the program.

Starting pay in 68-69 for lay teachers was 5800

If moeller doesn't win the title, I'll be shocked. R1 is extremely down as well as D1 overall. Cats alot of work to do

so many penalties and another unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Serious culture issues in the football program.

Coaching record is awful.

Fine but he will perpetually be playing a JV team against varsity teams.

Man, your team is bad and many of your players are just plain dirty. But, I've learned to expect garbage like this from the parochials and privates. Tonight however, specifically #56 was a new level. Terrible sportsman.

Good luck bringing any decent players to that dumpster fire.

I must have missed that under Kyle

P.s...we have called out culture issues all year as well as lack of discipline.

The alleged reason franzinger was gifted the position and no coaching search was because he knew the program Yada Yada. Are we sure about that because I haven't seen such discipline issues, lack of coaching and preparation and arrogance out of this team ever

There is no way anyone can rationally say they are excited about the direction of the program. After the last two seasons , 4 wins would be an improvement. Hard to believe but again if you watch the sidelines you would never think this mess exists with the behavior and hubris of some wearing the blue and gold.

Has been very noticeable as in there is a complete detachment from reality on the field or there are no consequences for poor performance so the intramural coaches are enjoying the ride
