2024 OATCC Polls

Meltdown averted.
Would have just been motivation. Not that I need it. Still don't understand how voters don't take head to head into consideration. If all they are going to do is look at times on milesplit, then it would be better to have Milesplit do the poll and actually use the Course rating system they were putting together years ago and have it done by the computer. Or, have the polls be by region. I think those would be much more accurate and interesting polls and then we could all extrapolate from there for a state ranking.

Hudson. Who is voting for Hudson #1?

Who has Hudson beat or raced this year?
Woodridge.

I don't think they have lost. They have beaten everyone they have run against that I can recall.

They beat Olentangy Orange easily #6 before #4. Crushed Massillon Jackson and $t. Iggy. Stow, Mentor, Chardon, GlenOak.

It's not like they are chumps.

$oodridge is money, that's why they won at Medina and clearly should be ranked at # 2
The $ is still so stupid that it makes me laugh. Is Fairfield Union even touchable at this point? Woodridge and Bay look like the only two teams that have a shot. Will they make each other better and enough better in the next 2 weeks +? I would not bet against it.

Fairfield Union definitely looks like the favorite, but I would say Bay looks to be 2nd with Woodridge just behind that. Should be some great racing coming in the next three weeks. I do think there are several other teams that could mix it up if they obviously have career days. The D2 Boys talent is unreal this season.

D2 Boys Regional Predictions

Youngstown:
Bay
Woodridge
CVCA
Rocky River
5th and 6th spot up for grabs: Jefferson Area, Orange, NDCL, Norwayne.

Pickerington:
Fairfield Union
Watterson
Jonathan Alder
Minerva
Fairless
Unioto

Troy:
West Liberty-Salem
Versailles
Cin. CHCA
Oakwood

Tiffin:
Lexington
Liberty Benton
Van Wert
Celina

Who keeps voting for Fisher Catholic in this coaches poll? The last time they were the best D3 team in a 5K race was on September 28th and there was a team that hasn't received any votes that was 18 points behind them. Going 2, 4, and 5 at a league meet isn't going to hold up when none of them ran a sub-17:00 effort on a neutral course. Northmor, is the 5th best team in the Region and have been for weeks but the voters don't seem to want to acknowledge that.

The Bay vs Woodridge 3 race extravaganza begins tomorrow at LCCC District.

The girls D2 race has the 3,4,5 ranked teams in the state.

Also, very interested to see how good Hudson is D1 boys. That GlenOak District has Hudson , Mas. Jackson, Medina, GlenOak, Boardman that I think have all been ranked this season. Some other teams that traditionally are very good.

D1 Boys Questions

The question is if Hudson has it's top 7 running at the district. The #1 runner was out sick last week at the conference meet.

Will Little Miami have their #1 back in full form? He was injured and returned at their league meet to run decent but not full force.

Will former #3 Beavercreek rebound after losing to #9 Centerville last week at their league meet?

Southwest Ohio D1 has 5 bids this year.
I would argue it is the best depth-wise this region has looked since 2004.
I would argue 6 very good teams in St. X, Mason, Little Miami, Beavercreek, Centerville, and Tipp City.
St. X is the clear favorite in Ohio this year.
After that, the next 5 teams could all be #2 at the regional meet.
Someone will lose out next week.

Central Ohio looks to be very competitive.
Westerville North
Dublin Jerome
Olentangy Orange
Columbus DeSales
Dublin Scioto
Olentangy Liberty
Gahanna Lincoln

-Has Columbus DeSales qualified for the state meet in D1?
*Again too many great teams. Some teams will miss out on the state meet.

Yeah, D1 Boys in the SW is brutally tough. D3 Girls will have the same issue. 4 teams ranked in the top 6: (Madeira #3, Summit Co. Day #4, West Liberty-Salem #5, and Ft. Laramie #6), only 3 qualifying spots. Versailles #12 and Botkins #17 ranked as well.

I'm assuming you all are talking about likely regional matchups. How about this for a district:

D3 Boys at Columbus Grove. 6 teams qualify to Tiffin. 6 schools in the top 20 of the coaches' poll.

I bet a lot of teams wish they could be in the Findlay D1 district. Only 14 boys in the race have PR's under 18 and only 1 under 16:50, if wasn't for pair of brothers the fastest time would be 17:03. There will be 2 teams that doesn't make it to regionals from the Leader Farms district (46 sub-18, 29 sub-17) that would have won the Findlay district. It is embarrassing that the NW board doesn't spit these schools up a little more competitively balanced.

WTF. 30+ teams in the state D1 have better teams than that entire district.

Yes it is that pathetic. There will be hundreds of boys across the state that are not even fast enough to run at districts for their team would finish in the top 12 and get to race at regional. This isn't a new problem. Some years have been slightly more balance because they have sent Toledo St. Francis to Findlay but not this year.

Bay to win by a nose tomorrow. 4 and 5 could tilt to $oodridge's favor in next week's much deeper field

I would agree. Deeper/better field is to Woodridge advantage. Smaller field / dual meet favors Bay. However, Woodridge tends to improve a lot the last month of the season, so here we go.

The NW District Board was make aware of the drastic imbalance 72 hours after they posted the race assignments on Aug. 23rd; Coaches, athletic directors, principals and parents petitioned the board over the last several months to allow for there to be a vote to make it fair, but the board never budged on their stance.

So 2 teams with an average time 1-5 of 16:30's will not advance to the regionals out of a loaded Leader's Farm site...... while allowing 2 other teams with an 18:30-18:50 1-5 average, to advance. (Also of note, Sandusky doesn't even field a team at the Findlay site so there will be only 10 teams).

The D1 regional with essentially be a quad meet (the teams from Leaders) while the teams from Findlay will be coming in a very distant last.

Wow the NW board is even worse than I thought. The district meet should never be faster than regional meet. I wonder is Findlay D1 meet the worst district in the state even including D2 and D3 districts.

Even a little change like having BG drive the 20 minutes to Findlay would have been a step in the right direction.

The girls would be just as bad if they didn't send St. Ursala down to Findlay.

Multiple teams from Leader's offered to move to Findlay to try an establish a better balance. Those requests were denied. With Findlay missing several runners over the last month, it will likely be worse than expected....Findlay likely will win the district championship with their #5 being around 18:45 (was 18:59 last week).

I have no doubt that nearly every team at Leaders offered to move as many of them could tempo the race and win it. Ashland is only team that has a chance to beat Findlay and might if any of the top 5 has a bad day. Findlay (4th out of 5 at conference meet) has a very long history of not running well late in the season. The 3rd team that makes it to Tiffin very likely would be last in the D3 race at Tiffin.

After the SW District results, the D1 boys race looks like it’s wide open. Mason has a 5th man at 15:51 and loses. Little Miami has to be #1 now?

So in NW D1 a team with an avg of 18:24 makes it to Tiffin while teams with 16:31 and 16:35 avg season comes to an end.

Only one kid in Findlay broke 17 on a very fast course in great weather conditions.
The D1 races at Leaders might as well been the regional for the Northwest as it turned into a shootout between the top teams in the region; the Findlay side was about as bad as I expected.

Do they take more teams from the Regional to the State than they do District to Regional?
