2024 Massillon Tigers

I agree. Usually I see 3 different entities ranking teams max preps, USA today and prep nation. I am sure there are others. Like you I've noticed these rankings are very similar. If one has a team 11 then the other 2 will have them 13 and 9 or something similar to that.
Exactly they are usually close. HSFA and ESPN is another along with calpreps that you mentioned.I'm pretty sure their is either 6 or 8 that do the rankings.

29 targets for your best receiver in 14 games??! What a failure by the coaches.
The WR room was very deep this year, I think Slaughter and Toles have had a connection so he looked at him a lot. I agree Carter should have had more than 29 targets but just tough when you have 5 guys with at least 20 rec and 200 yds.
It all goes back to the OL, they were decent at run blocking but pass blocking was an issue starting week 1, so there was a lot of dump offs to Gamble and short passes to Toles. The OL has to be a main focus in the off-season, actually for us it always needs to be the focus because we always have skill players but it doesn’t do you any good if you don’t have time to get them the ball.

You nailed it we ALWAYS have skill players and sometimes like this year some gets wasted like Mitchel who was good enough to start for prolly anyone around and the same with Lenix but at least he was full time defense. Point is we had 3 backs that could of started for anyone around.Kids that play here want to be the star and are skill position players. We need more great lineman to come out.

You have just described the woes of almost every school I've been a part of. It is so difficult to create a culture of kids willing to put in the tremendous amount of work it takes to be successful at a high level and not get the highlights and recognition.

Yep easier to put in the work being the star that's scoring all the TDs and getting the majority of the recognition than the un sung heros who help contribute to them TDs. Not that the stars don't put in a tremendous amount of work as well they just live the more glamorous lifestyle of being recognized.

The WR room wasn’t THAT deep with actual talent. Malone even missed several games with injury. When your RB caught more balls than your best WR you failed as a coach.

Yeah the O line is definitely part of the failure that resulted in not getting your playmakers the ball. Returned 3 seniors with starting experience and somehow made them all play like freshmen.

You can't get much better at hs level. I guarantee Anderson would have a field day with Carter, Toles, Wells, Malone, and Zim. But it takes all 4 phases - Qb, O line, wr's, and scheme or routes. Idk how much input Woods had but our passing game seemed to struggle WAY more than it should except for the occasional "bomb." Running game too frankly. Many of Gambles best runs were improvised when the hole wasn't there and he bounced outside or reversed field. I would like to see us re-imagine our entire offense. Owens at QB last year opened it up a bit because he was a great runner.

Anderson has two receivers that are better than anyone we have tbh. We also had a better group just within the last 5 years. Toles is a guy you like as your third option but not your X receiver. Carter was egregiously underutilized, Malone will be very good but was just a sophomore and missed a month with injury.

Wood had ALL of the input in our pass game as he was the OC and play caller. It was his offense.

at a public hs anything but skilled positions are tough to fill
Sure we “got a Copley kid” for QB but we can’t just go around the state handpicking offensive lineman
Nothing against any kid on our line they played great against some good teams
But if we are going to talk about talent of our team we have to remember we are a town of only 36k at most with a school of only 1200 kids
The talent pools not enormous by gross numbers but we sure net a ton of talent

This is very true and now that the season is over and looking back on things, clearly there was a hangover from winning a title throughout the year. There would be times during a game where it was like there is no fire out there at all or they came out flat. Not to mention there was a lot of coaching changes in the off-season. A new offense, different OL coaches, we have to remember these are teenagers and they can be told 427 times during the week this is going to happen Friday night and then it happens and they still miss the assignment etc.

Owens last year hid a lot of our OL issues and we didn’t have that weapon this year at all and it showed. I’ll probably say this about 100 more times before next August but this has to be the focus this off-season.

There are offenses you can design around an undersized line, and ditto for huge lines (think Ed or Hoban). But there is no way to design a square peg into a round hole. I will take 220# guys who can move and master their assignments > bigger stronger guys who can't. This is an annual weakness for a team striving for #1, and like JW says is difficult for most mid-sized publics, barring some transfer help. Next year looks to be equally if not more challenging in that dept.

Wonder if it's sinking in with the O-line tonight as they see that Anderson isn't all that great and all them offside penalties cost them most likely a birth In the title game next week
It's making it a tougher pill to swallow right now. The offensive line has to be the most important unit going forward. I know it's tough year in and year out to have that happen but we'd be playing next week possibly if that would've been more of the focus imo. I'll continue to say it, I love our kids and I respect all they put into it but your offensive line just can't be the worst unit on the field, ever...

1000 percent agree bro, and this year it just hurts more because we all know we have the talent and can beat anybody in the state. When you lose and get flat out beat it's different you know you aren't as good as the other team but this one I did not walk away even thinking BW was a good team and definitely not better than Massillon

People can put angry lil emoji's all they want just think how bad the rest of this team feels. Literally everybody else on the team did their job and did great last week EXCEPT the O-line. Rest of the team A+ compared to a F. Yes the special teams gave up a score but that happens sometimes.

I went to Hoban V Avon tonight. Gosh dang we threw it away this year man.

Did see quite a few Tiger underclassmen at the game though. Hopefully this humbling experience sets the tone for the offseason program. I trust Coach Stu and Coach Moore to get the most out of them.

Agree we threw it away by not making it to the title game as I feel we beat Anderson had we not lost. However the way Avon played tonight I don't think we would of made it past them and won the title

Wow, how in the world did our Anderson beat big Walnut? Completely wasn’t expecting that. I was thinking how is our team down here Going to beat Massillon if Anderson makes it that far and now they beat the team that beat Massillon. Sheez! And then Lakewood Saint Edwards got beat!

😂 I expected and most did for Anderson to blow BW away. Anderson was a 27 point favorite. BW isn't that good. You definitely caught a break with Massillon losing last week
