2024 Massillon Tigers

I agree but I'm not even sure knowing not to jump offsides is even football IQ kind of common sense. It comes down to once you do it and get penalized you just don't keep doing it over and over and over. Like more or less how good is your memory and how big is your brain.
Hoban jumps offsides all the time, too. I am not a football coach but I think would a coach needs to do is teach and drill every practice to tell lineman just watch the ball. Don't move an inch until the ball is snapped. Also , I would have the offense move all over the place to distract the defensive lineman and train the offensive lineman to ignore any offensive movement by any player by keeping their eyes on the ball and focusing. If they jump they run laps in practice. If they jump in a game they sit up for awhile. I've seen coaches remove running backs from games when they fumble. Should be no different for defensive lineman.

For people who were not there, and wondering how on heavenly earth can an offense have 15 false starts, here is the context:

The BW defensive line would intentionally jump before the snap to draw the offense, and then immediately all point to the offensive linemen to influence the official, who had to determine when to ignore. You usually see this the other way around - offense tries to draw d-line.

Several times (the majority) we clearly flinched. A few times I (or the announcers) could not detect any movement, but the refs were obviously acutely dialed in by then. In any case I must say it was a very effective ploy. To the point we or even ALL teams should consider doing that. Seems like an easy way to draw a few false starts. But 15+ is absurd. That points to a lack of discipline and/or adjustment.

Classroom gpa and football IQ are 2 different things to me. And for everyone asking the booster club meeting was indeed cancelled. He spoke today and I won't say much about it. All I know is going forward to continue to grow the program as much as we can, things have to change. You either evolve and get better or stay the same and get left behind. This off season will be interesting as far as coaching changes and player development. Oh yea and we will see what free agency brings this year.

If he spoke in public, what is up with this statement? "Elephant in the room" is almost an understatement. Was it at least mentioned? PM if necessary - I know you are not a dirty laundry type of person (me too). Thanks in advance.

I agree 1000 percent and also I bet Hoban had never jumped offsides 15 times in one game and lost a game because of penalties. You are right punish these kids and for us it's the offense that has the problem not so much the defense even though they have done it this year as well but nothing like this last display. It's hard to think that as good of a coach Moore is that he don't make a issue of this. Sometimes it just makes me think maybe we just have a line full of boneheads that something isn't registering up there no matter how many times they are told or screw up. That was absolutely the worst display of football I've seen in almost 50 years of life on this Earth.

I just used the term Football IQ to insult anyone. I have to watch everything I say. I know there's whistleblowers on here

Hoban might not ever have lost a game because of penalties but there have been games where if they eliminated all or most of those penalties would have given them a better chance to win.

I understand watching what you say but sometimes it just has to be said. Your right alot of the game is football IQ it does exists. I'm just saying my kid is not a football player but he's genius level smart. Graduated from Massillon and is on a full ride engineering scholarship at Ohio State. He has ZERO football IQ and you could put him on that O-line and I promise you after he jumps one time or he sees one of his teammates jump once and the team gets moved back and penalized It won't happen again. He might not do anything else right but Jumping offsides won't happen. With everything else in his life he don't make repeated mistakes and that has to do with him not being a dummy and learning

I agree and that's awesome about your son! That's big time right there! Love to hear it

I've noticed a similar pattern with Hoban like you have said from the beginning of Tim's run until now. Definitely more penalties against them as years have gone on. They just have so much talent most years they win anyway. I know that's not how you want to do it but I have noticed that. I'm not sure what it is with some of these talented teams and numerous penalties and mistakes lately. Hoban plays clean this weekend they will win by a couple scores. If not, Avon does, they can sneak in there and win. It'll be interesting to see for sure. Good luck to Both schools I have a lot of respect for them

In my day we'd be in 3 pt stance qb under center everyone knew their assignments and had minimal penalties, except occasional hold. If you had 1 false start you felt horrible but would get pulled after the 2nd. Seemed alot less complicated back then. Can only chalk it up to a flukey contagious line-wide mental meltdown. In any case overall penalty reduction needs to be priority 1 this offseason and summer practice. I KNOW Stu will have them ready on his end.

Let's hope but it's been getting worse every year. Someone on a Facebook page posted a couple of weeks ago penalty yardage per game since Moore got here and it has gradually got worse every year.

If it makes you feel better I am confident it can't get worse. 😵‍💫

Honestly though last year was a great year at least we took care of business down the stretch. Idk if it was previously ignored or what, but this was a tipping point now it can't and won't.

Let's pray it don't get worse but it can we had 98.3 yards a game last year and well this year don't know the numbers but it's over 100

Don't take it the dummy thing personal boss. Us Massillon fans pretty much live and die with our team. We're the definition of fanatical. That we'll may be what separates us and gives us the persona of crazy fans. We truely live eat, sleep, and wake with Tiger football. You may think that's sad but we thrive on it and our lives would be bored and void with out this amazing time of the year. We all have lives but this accentuates it for us. Oh and have a great holidays to you too ,seriously.
Grow up

Appreciate it bro

yeah thats pretty cool..That has to make you feel pretty proud and also a little less stressed when it comes to the finances. What kind of engineering?

Yes it does. Not exactly sure what kind of engineering he's studying. Just know he's in Honor classes and says it's very difficult. Also for the last few years he's been doing a internship at Timken by the airport the last couple summers and while he attended Massillon his senior year. Not sure if that tells what kind of engineering he's in

Massillon lost the game between the ears. Big walnut most definitely wanted this win more and went out and took it. They would not be denied.
With their effort and execution they deserve to win, so congrates to rhe mighty Eagles. Hats off to your players, coaches ,fans and band, a class act all the way. And thats all I have to say about that.

Here's wishing everyone a happy and joyous holiday season.
