2024 Ignatius soccer

Isn’t this the reason we love the game of soccer. I’d like to take Iggy over the field also but then again last year we took Moeller over the field. It’s the one game that the better team doesn’t always win. Just like the KC chiefs aren’t the best team in the NFL this year but if you had to bet them or the field I may just take them

I saw some comments on Twitter that implied they sat the starters but nothing beyond that.
I heard rumors that some starters were suspended from the team last week, but I don't know if they got reinstated yet.

Final game of the season when they already have their playoff seeding set, a lot of teams sit players, so it's hard to tell anything from that last regular season game.

Ignatius tops Mentor 8-0 in a Saturday afternoon game.
Does one of the reasons Ignatius has won so many state titles In a row has to do with the fact that they effectively get a free ride to the state semis every year? SW and Columbus teams have to go through a gauntlet whereas Iggy just rolls through teams until the state semis, resting their players if they choose to. The best team they play this year until state semis is Massilon Jackson, who they already smacked 4-0.

Part of the reason they don’t end up having to play anyone until the state semis is because the better teams avoid Ignatius on the brackets every year. They don’t choose who ends up on their bracket.

As much as I hate to say it I think they win because when they get there very few teams think they can beat them. They have won so much it is definitely intimidating. Last year was a good example that I believe Moeller had the better team and maybe they were not intimidated but St I expects to win. It seems even with 5 minutes left and down one goal they were still confident. Once they scored it was definitely to their advantage moving forward.
I do understand about SW and Central being tougher but once you get there you have to win and it seems St I always wins.

Also at this point could be an experience thing. Last year, Moe was probably pretty nervous as none of them had ever played in a state final, but Iggy probably had everyone that played on the bench for a previous win, so they knew what to expect and how to approach the game. Probably doesn't make a massive difference but when it comes to the final minutes and Iggy scores a free kick, then wins in pens, the experience might have helped them out. Also the players are still great and their coach is incredible.

Ignatius has lost 4 games this season and had one draw. Three of the losses were to nationally ranked OOS teams. The one in-state loss was a point loss to Dublin Jerome, a match where many of the usual starters did not play. Clearly this year's team is not the powerhouse of previous Ignatius teams, but they did have wins over St. X and St. Charles.

I am curious as to why St I game was played on Tuesday when all other Regional Semi games are tonight ?

What happened to David Salukombo this year? Did he move, play for some sort of club team or? He was amazingly fast on the left wing as a sophomore last year. I also don’t think he was with Ignatius as a ninth grader.

Moved to Colorado. Would have been a major difference maker.

A couple of my club teammates were on the St. Ignatius teams and the graduating class of 1996, which was the farthest they had made it, I believe the final four. They all said the future was going to bright with the coach and the younger players in the the program. Ed's was no where even close to St. Ignatius back then and we used to practice at Halloran Park in Cleveland...Ugh, having to worry about your car being stolen is no way to practice. Glad things have changed.

Where does St. Eds soccer practice nowadays?
