Anderson backup QB Carson Tenhundfeld has transferred back to West Clermont, where he spent his freshman year. 15-24 with a touchdown and 2 picks in mostly mopup duty last season.

He should have a chance to earn the starting job - none of the Wolves' QBs last year were all that inspiring, at least not through the air.

So did his family move or is WC open enrollment?

How about some updates about Kings?
Return their QB, top RB and one of the best playmakers in the league in Lyman. Expect them to put up points. Defense is usually undersized but tough and fundamentally sound. Special teams typically on of the best in SW Ohio and has been since the Andy Olds era. I'd expect a solid 7-3 record and possibly a few playoff wins.

Kings OL Kage Payne committed to Troy a few days ago. The Knights will have two FBS seniors suiting up on offense this year.

Thanks, they always have some great games vs. other top teams.

Went to the Walnut/Hughes scrimmage but only got to see a bit of actual 11-on-11 football. They were mostly wearing practice jerseys, so it was hard to identify individual players, save for a couple. My notes:
  • The defense looked better than the offense, at least relative to what Hughes was doing. Other than one 40-yard rushing TD allowed, Hughes was barely able to move the ball at all.
  • The offense was a lot more varied than last year, which may have contributed to some of their struggles. They were running I-formations and some single-wing sets (last year basically everything was out of shotgun). They were also moving the pocket a lot. The new center was having trouble consistently snapping the ball to Rivers.
  • Ty Austin was the most dominant player on the field for either team. He was winning pretty much all his reps in 1-on-1s and made several long catches in the 11-on-11 portion. Walnut also shifted him into the backfield to be the HB in an I-formation, which led to a long run.
  • Rivers had an up-and-down day, and didn't look like a guy ready to take a huge Year 3 leap.
  • I didn't get to see any special teams plays, which were probably the weakest part of the team last year. Hopefully they're practicing them elsewhere.

Seems likely that my alma mater, Milford, is going to take a step back this year as they lost A LOT of the pieces that made their 2023 team so dang good, but I'm hearing some solid things about senior QB Luke Brand. The Cincinnati Enquirer is claiming that he's one of the top ten quarterbacks in the area for 2024. Plus, Tom Grippa is still there as head coach and he's continued to be a miracle worker with a program that was a perpetual also-ran up until 2016.

Is it too much to expect them to be a dark horse contender to repeat as conference champs?

Realistically, I think Brand needs to be at minimum a top 2 QB in the league for Milford to have any shot. They lose a lot of talent on the lines, and don't return anyone on defense with more than 2 sacks. Brand/Melgard/Bailey is a solid passing core, but the pieces around them need to show themselves before Sep. 27. Winton Woods in week 3 should be a good barometer for what the team will look like come playoff time (if they have trouble with Edgewood or Walnut, then yeah, no).

I also was very confused how Grant Nurre didn't get any love in that Enquirer article you linked. Was he just overlooked or do they think that he's only as good as he is because he's throwing to Nate Lyman? They had Will Rivers in the "radar" section but not him.

Kage Payne now going to NC State. Seems like a big leap up from Troy.

I think Brand is awesome. So sad to see him miss the playoffs and a shot at a post season run last year. With a qb that good, I would expect them to pile up yards and points. I think Kings will too. Hoping to see a big jump from Nurre, but he was not in Brsnd’s league last year. He should have a lot of good pieces around him too. Lyman is going to be breaking a lot of records Mussari set two years ago.

TSF previews Kings in this article for their sixth ECC preview of the offseason. Better late than never.

They also released their Preseason Top 25 poll, ranking five ECC teams:

5. Anderson
6. Winton Woods
13. Kings
15. Milford
21. Lebanon

Loveland was also listed as "knocking on the door"

Drew Pasteur lines and win odds for Week 1:

South Oldham at #16 Anderson (-36) - AND 94%
Edgewood at #21 Milford (-31) - MIL 92%
#28 Winton Woods at #8 Springfield (-16) - SPF 77%
Sycamore at #50 Kings (-13) - KNG 72%
New Albany at Lebanon (-2) - LEB 53%
West Clermont (-9) at Mt. Healthy - WC 66%
Loveland at Harrison (-2) - HAR 54%
Turpin at Oak Hills (-20) - OKH 83%
Little Miami at Springboro (-29) - SPB 91%
Western Hills at Walnut Hills (-12) - WAL 70%

Agreed that these first two weeks should be very telling. I really hope that they're not looking past Edgewood because it's their "cupcake" non-conference game.

ECC has become my favorite conference to follow the past few years. There's more than 1-2 teams that just dominate year after year. Should be an exciting year for the conference, and I wonder who the surprise will be?

Hello fellow ECC posters. Happy first Friday!

Kings 28 Sycamore 7 in the 3rd quarter. Lots of frustrating penalties and some fumbles keeping the game closer than it should be, but overall I think Kings looks pretty good. Looking forward to seeing some other ECC updates tonight.

Walnut Hills breaks The Streak in dominant fashion, defeating Western Hills 30-8, with the latter's touchdown coming on the final play of the game with a running clock active.

Rivers 3 TD, 2 INT. Ty Austin ran for a 91-yard touchdown and caught another one. Bronson caught a 66-yard touchdown. Joshua Thornton caught two passes of 25+ yards, one for a TD. Walnut defense was swarmy all night and had several TFLs as West High rotated between 5 different RBs in an attempt to find something that worked.

Coach Myles gets his first win as an Eagle. The season is pretty much already a success, but screw it, let's go beat Milford.

I didn’t realize Walnut Hills was 0-10 two years in a row. Happy for those kids.

Kings 42 Sycamore 7 5:19 left in 4th.
Kings looked great in the second half. They look like they might actually have a running game this year! The defense looked pretty dang good, although that might be more of a reflection on Sycsmore’s offense. I think they’ve got a shot against WW next week.

Yes the lack of running the ball drove me crazy last year as I’m sure you remember lol. The first half was very unevenly officiated and the fumbling stalled some drives as well. I think the second half was more of a true picture of what each team was.

Every Kings/WW game since 2020 when they joined the conference has been a good competitive game. Will for sure learn a lot more next week.

Well, I would say that Winton Woods beat Sycamore about as bad in the scrimmage as Kings just did, so it should be a good game! Sycamore was actually competitive against Milford in their scrimmage, so maybe it’s only a 3-team race with Anderson.

Looking at scores nothing too surprising. WW beating Springfield 16-6 is huge considering what Springfield has done in D1 lately. Congrats Warriors!
