I blame the new HC, guy seems to care more about looking good then winning games. I personally think Coach Rob should have stayed. Sure, the guy was a little wild, but he won games, and it seemed like the players took his coaching seriously. Even the Coach Brown guy seemed like a solid replacement instead of them grabbing a freshman coach from Iggy.
You might want to go back and take a good hard look at Rob's last few years at Benedictine. He could not get the talent his 2nd time around, and he had kids transfer out as well. Something just changed with Bene Hoops. Let's say Rob came back, I do not think he would be able to build a team like he had when they beat St Vincent St LeBron back in the day. I think those days are over.

Everything I have heard has been positive about Salata. Kids love him, he helps out the school. I know an assistant from Ignatius that talks with an assistant from Bene on the regular. He claims getting the talent isn't the issue, but after their Freshman year, they bolt. He claims they are influenced by friends that play elsewhere or the Coaches from AAU. I mean, Bene had a player on the JV , I think he was a sophomore, solid player, not a star, and his Dad was pissing and moaning that he should be playing a lot more. Go out and earn it! As soon as I heard that comment, I knew he would be gone. And what do you know, he left. I'll keep an eye on him and see what he does at his new school.

I can also point out that Diondre Taylor bolted for St Eds. From what I was told, his family pushed him out of Bene. Is that Coach Prevesk's fault? And take a look at the last 3 years of the talent that leaves the Freshmen football team. Kids always transfer out.
We can take a look back when they let Coach Goode go. 3 players transfer out and go to Glenville. They won a title, good for them. The Bengals go 4-6 that season, after the 0-10 season. If those 3 kids stay, I think that Bene team goes 7-3 and beats Hudson. Some of these kids think they are in the PROS and jump ship when they don't get their way.

Last thing, my friend from Ignatius told me he does not understand why kids that have talent but will not see action on the varsity basketball team do not go to a good school like Bene to play, rather than sit on the bench and never see action at Iggy.

I have to disagree. Kids transferring out is on the coaches. Relationships will help keep kids.

I’ve never heard one bad thing about Salata. He seems to have great relationships with his players. And the coaching staff overall is well liked.

If two players want to leave and go play with their buddies at Shaker Hts, how is that on him?

Salata was an extremely successful JV coach at Ignatius. I’d bet he had an 80%+ win rate. Obviously it’s a different environment and JV is very different from being the program CEO, but no doubt the man can coach.

I like him, hope things can turn around. It only takes a few stud players to change a program. I hope he is at Bene for years to come.

Agree on the relationships, but I think it is more nuanced.

My freshman football team at Benedictine had some solid players, and this was during the early Coach Schaefer era. Unfortunately a few of my classmates left Bene, and, knowing them personally, I think there were other factors at play (parents, going to a "better" program to get D1 looks, and also not having the discipline in the classroom). Perhaps the relationship with Coach could have been better, but I think it is just more nuanced than that.

Correct analysis. The freshmen QB was out and one of our best linemen was hurt as well. Those two play and that freshmen game with Walsh would have been much closer.
Very incorrect, Walsh could have won 70-0, they didnt play their starters after half. Bene was bad and 2 players would not have made the difference.

Salata is very well liked. That doesn't mean he has a great relationship with his players. When you're a head coach of a team its almost always on you.

Says the Iggy guy, everyone knows how your students behave and let’s just say they are no angels.
What planet are you on to call me an iggy guy, so far off base its in another universe!
I grew up at 93rd and Kinsman fyi!
My statement applies not matter where I went public or private, especially private!

Did benny cancel the Walsh JV game this week??
Yes, they canceled the Walsh JV game. After the varsity game ended, so neither team had a JV game.
I said in a prior post that it was a bad look. Almost like poor sportsmanship, but what do I know.

I don't know, however, if they played JV this week. Does anyone know?

The Walsh JV game against was cancelled due to injuries. The Elyria Catholic JV game was also cancelled due to injuries.

I see Church got ejected from the Erie game. Does he get any game suspension? Can't tell from looking at the OHSAA rules.
If it was a clear ejection and not a penalty where the coach opted to sit him down, he would be suspended for the next game. But, the out of state game may play to their favor. Many times if it's out of state they kind of sweep it under the rug.
