Highlights from Saturday's Strongsville/Benedictine contest:
Very ugly game from what I was told. And now we have no QB on the Freshmen team.Benedictine 16 Shaker Heights 15
Don't have a kid at the school anymore but my buddies who do are raving about him. Accountability is paramount and has set a whole new tone.Question. Will the new strength coach have as much impact as he had at his former position?

He’s a huge hire! One of the absolute keys to the successes Hoban has had. He’s very passionate and active and some are uncomfortable with that but he’s exceptional at his job. Benedictine is incredibly fortunate to have him. Trust him, let him do his job and Benedictine will reap the rewards.Question. according to my sources, Morse and Maloney are both backAny word on Maloney or Morse for this week? Really would like at least one back for Friday.
Good, because I heard conflicting sources saying otherwise but thought they would be back.according to my sources, Morse and Maloney are both back
I watched the livestream last night and thought they did an outstanding job as well. They even did a pregame show and did a segment on the Benedictine-Walsh rivalry with highlights from previous games. If you have not watched the Benedictine livestream (obviously attending games in person is unmatched), I highly encourage it. The kids and staff members that put it together have done an amazing job. Two student commentators, multiple HD cameras with a score bug that has the time running. I would argue it rivals and surpasses most HS streams I have seen. The two students who are commentators are great.
Other note: Bengals fought last night against a very good team. One two many mistakes, but they were in the game the whole time. Need to tighten up on some things (dropped snaps in a row in a crucial spot really deflated the game) but the team should be looking at themselves knowing they can win those games. Get better, win next week. Go Bengals.
We’ve been talking about the Bene student section for a while now. Same crap happens at basketball games. It seems the administration does nothing. Embarrassing at times.Hard fought game. Still a lot to work on, though. Maloney is a difference maker. Without him, Bene may not have scored.
Really disappointed in the MOB student section, however. I know kids will be kids, but the stuff they were chanting was classless and beneath Bene. I really hope the administration does something to address it because it's not the first game I've heard chants that just aren't needed.
It's almost like playing Walsh brings out the worst in the kids. The planting of the flag on their field a few years ago and now these silly chants. I thought Bene was above that type of thing. I know back in the day heads would've rolled if crap like that was attempted.
In the end, I think we finish 8-2. Prep is beatable.
Bene alum here. I browse and read the posts on Yappi, but have never made an account before. This subject meant enough to sign up and chime in. I was also there on Friday, umbrella in hand! Pretty sure administration has brought up the issue multiple times in the last few years since these "chants" have started flying; I even had a nephew be the ringmaster of them during the 2023 basketball season, and all I can say is that kids will be kids. Sadly, I could not make the Walsh game but according to a couple buds who were there the chants are only getting worse and worse.Hard fought game. Still a lot to work on, though. Sad state of affairs if this is true across the board.Pretty sure administration has brought up the issue multiple times in the last few years since these "chants" have started flying; I even had a nephew be the ringmaster of them during the 2023 basketball season, and all I can say is that kids will be kids. Not sure why about Walsh, but I do know the Cougars and the Bengals will be playing again next season. This was my favorite rivalry in the 90’s, early 00’s.Sad state of affairs if this is true across the board.
Also not happy to hear we aren't renewing with Walsh. Anyone know the reason why we opted not to play them next year? I've enjoyed this rivalry.
I heard Ignatius too? Hope that’s not trueNot sure why about Walsh, but I do know the Cougars and the Bengals will be playing again next season. This was my favorite rivalry in the 90’s, early 00’s.
You got to be kidding me, right? I hope the decision to not play Walsh next year is not final. It is one of the best Northeast Ohio rivalries to date, and it should not end so soon.Sad state of affairs if this is true across the board.

Truth be told the rivalry has died done a little bit, especially on the Walsh side, they don’t take Benedictine as seriously and the last few match ups don’t help much. I live 15 minutes down the road from Walsh and one of my daughters is a senior there and she even said the school or team doesn’t show much attention to the rivalry. You got to be kidding me, right? To say Walsh doesn’t take Benedictine seriously is pretty ridiculous. Benedictine has had way more success in football, and it’s not even close! Sure, the Bengals have been down the past couple of years, but that doesn’t erase decades of success. You can’t keep a program like Benedictine down for long. Just because Walsh is on a temporary upswing doesn’t mean they should overlook us. Honestly, I’d rather see the Bengals face Lake Catholic anyway—that’s the real rivalry!Truth be told the rivalry has died done a little bit, especially on the Walsh side, they don’t take Benedictine as seriously and the last few match ups don’t help much. Not kidding you at all. I was talking with a co-worker that has ties to Walsh. He was saying the staff at Bene chose to not renew with them. He said they were disappointed because they were counting on playing Bene even when their new conference starts up. I'll add they were upset that we canceled the JV game after the end of the varsity game was over. It was a bad look. You got to be kidding me, right? Kids these days don't care about what happened 5 years ago, and really don't care about what happened further back than that. As for LC, I'm excited to kick the crud out of them each year. That's a program I used to respect but now think pretty lowly of. The schedule they play this year is terrible. A few years ago they played a tough schedule and finished 1-9. How do they fix that? Schedule a bunch of softies. Unlike those of us who continued to play a tough schedule. Again though, this is part of why I'm upset we took WJ off the docket. Playing tough competition prepares you for the playoffs. We will roll Lake.To say Walsh doesn’t take Benedictine seriously is pretty ridiculous. Bene alum here, class of '10. I have to say I look at this forum all the time as I check up on the Bengals and as a person who used to be apart of the student section you guys are overreacting. These are kids and I was there Friday and the only thing that was out of line was the chant at the Walsh qb. You old heads are soft, just soft. Times are changing and you guys are stuck in the past. Kids will be kids and the student section is just trying to have a good time. Personally I was laughing at all the chants (outside of the Walsh qb one for obvious reasons) because it is really never that serious. You people need to realize that times have changed and kids aren't always going to be respectful. The MOB is evolving and MOB will always be MOB.Bene alum here. I'm all for cheering and even some good natured ribbing. That's all good fun. But these kids are not MOB. The things they were saying was beneath Benedictine. I've always been proud that we stayed above the fray, but recently I've heard more and more of the trash. Friday just pushed me over the edge. Plus, when they were chanting a derogatory thing at the Walsh kid, the next play he ran for a TD. Great job helping the team.
I've never been embarrassed to be a Bene alum until Friday. If there are any Walsh fans that view this, I extend my apologies. I also extend apologies to any team that this has happened to. Like MrBeneBengal, I've heard similar crud at basketball games and other football games. It's not necessary and makes us look like trash.
I really hope the administration addresses this. It needs to stop.
Were you at the Bengals @ Gilmour basketball game last December? Students standing above me using the F bomb relentlessly at a former Bengal player. Embarrassing.Bene alum here, class of '10. All the stories I've heard of the 80s teams that are just swept under the rug. Everyone is guilty, let's not act like this stuff didn't happen back in the 70s, 80s, 90sSome times certain change is not good?
