2023 Southwestern Buckeye League

Madison vs National Trail-Mohawks improve to 4-0 with another easy one
Brookville vs Waynesville-Brookville by a couple of scores but Waynesville could keep it close in the first half
Valley View @ Carlisle-VV by a bunch
Franklin vs CJ-CJ by a couple of scores
Hughes @ Monroe-Hughes has some athletes, but I think the Hornets win this one pretty easily
Eaton @ Oakwood-I'll take the Jacks in a close, not sure Eaton is as good as their 3-0 record, but I could be wrong
Bellbrook @ Ponitz Tech-This will be a massacre
Ross vs Wilmington-Rams by a couple of scores
Edgewood @ Talawanda-Talawanda shows up on the Edgewood schedule right on time. Cougars win big.
If Eaton can cut down on the penalties, I think that they will win by two scores.

Again, Its all about the schedule right. Madison is better but their schedule is made for 4-0. They then will struggle the rest of the year but people just don't see it. Will it be Popps fault when they get hammered as well? They only see W or L. That is why winning is more important than who you play. Its why Ohio State and the big schools pay teams millions of dollars to come to their home and get absolutely destroyed. These schools like Madison and Carlisle etc.. just do not have the horses to compete at a high level. I know, I know, Madison was in the semis a few years ago. But as soon as those kids leave back to reality. All schools are good every 10-15 years but its the consistency they lack based on school size etc.. Its why Madison and Carlisle need to get the heck to a new conference where they can annually compete and not just once in a while I think.

Wholeheartedly disagree. Handful of students separate Carlisle from Brookville and valley view and historic rivials and have always been competitive. Run to find a weaker conference is not it. It’s not about size like how ML spanked Franklin not saying these teams are ML but why can’t they be? VV was just like Carlisle and then we wasn’t. Go drive a hour to find schools in a conference you can beat or keep traditional rivals backyard rivals and build a program. To me the answer is easy raise the bar stop lowering it. Yes evebody has down years.

Why does Ohio State play Youngstown State? Why does Alabama play Monroe University or something? We can disagree on this but you have to admit those are great examples.

What conference is willing to take them on is the question? The only sport they don’t compete in is football and they will have years where they will do just fine in that. Things changed in the SWBL give them some time to get adjusted.

Not true. Carlisle had a season a few years ago where they did not win ONE game in any sport in the fall season. I think it was 2019. Things are changing in a bad way for those small schools. Adding the teams they are adding will not help them or Madison. They are getting bigger, not smaller. Here is a good question for all: Do you think Milton -Union, Northridge, Dixie, or Prebble would ever want to come back to the SWBL in its current format? I highly doubt it because they can now consistently win which is better for the kids. Kids don't care who they play as long as they win.

Didn’t they win the small school side in basketball last year. And my question is still what conference is going to take them on.

Where does it end? The least successful and or smallest school continues to leave the conference, till there is
No conference. Ok good plan

Madison looks much improved but National Trail is horrible. Madison doesn’t blow me away athletically receivers look a little rough. I would still favor waynesville and keep in mind Carlisle has much better athletes than this national trail team so that may be a good game. Defense looks fast and excited but small. Maybe 2-3 SWBL wins my prediction. Much improved though

Watch Madison some tonight. They look good but it is NY. I think they beat Carlisle. Possibly split against Oakwood and Waynesville. VV and Brookville they will get blown out. To me, the real measuring stick is how they complete against Eaton. They won't beat them but see if they can keep it close for a while

Eaton will beat Madison by 3 TD's or more. I see Madison seems to have improved but come one now, they aren't the semi final team they were a few years ago.

My neighbor has a cousin that had 79 all purpose yards in a flag football game. He is in 2nd grade, so the horses are coming. Franklin fans just need to be patient.
Was not talking peewee Simply stating the sophmore class is really talented and the freshman class has a really athletic qb and a rb that played great last year They have always played us well in years past

What is going on at Carlisle is baffling! How in the world can you only get 30 kids to come out for football. I have seen there per wee teams, all have 20 plus. Kids fall off in every city from pee wee to high school, but if you can’t get 10 kids a grade to come out then there is some serious issues that need to be corrected immediately.

Madison being 4-0 is good for the league overall and good for their program. Building a winning atmosphere and gaining computer points for the rest of the league. I view Carlisle and Oakwood similarly.

The conference has gone the direction it has because those schools turned tail and fled. Of course they aren't coming back. The Small schools that have stayed, for whatever reason it may be, have earned a lot of respect from me. I feel worse for Brookville that had all their close match-ups leave but they have been really been impressive at a Athletic department that past decade or so and I'm glad to have them around still.

Did not say Madison would win. I'm just curious to see how long they can hang with Eaton. I think it will be close at half but Eaton pulls away in the second half.

How do you know they are much improved? Because they are 4-0? I thought these teams needed to schedule up rather than schedule down. You could not find 4 worse teams than they play. That goes against your philosophy? Last year they played a tough beginning 4 games. Not trying to be a jerk. Just really asking that question.
