2023 Bengals

Does anyone have any confidence in this organization to fix the Swiss cheese roster? I sure don’t. They ran into a two-year fluke with Burrow and Chase on rookie deals and they’ll never have that kind of luck again.

No one on the defense can rush the QB except Hendrickson. The defense gets run on more than a treadmill. The LBs routinely get abused in coverage. The safeties aren’t good. Might as well spread some butter on Awuzie; he’s toast.

On offense, all the WRs will be gone except Chase, Iosivas and Jones. Both guard spots are an issue. Orlando Brown has underperformed. Jonah Williams is a free agent. They don’t currently have a starter-caliber TE.

The punter stinks. The coaching is trash.

There’s zero chance the front office can fix all of this. Even Dolly Parton thinks this roster is top heavy.
That was a great draft pick.

Merry Christmas!!!

Look at the top of the AFC standings and note that Miami, Baltimore, KC and Buffalo are pretty much the only teams whose QB has remained healthy all year. The rest of the teams that will make the playoffs just got lucky to win enough games to emerge from the pack of teams with back up QBs. Burrow will be back next year. No need to panic.
Trevor Lawrence has been dinged up lately but hasn’t missed any games besides the very end of the Bengals game. And he’s playing today.

Bengals are 0-5 vs AFC North. Why because the Bengals can't stop the run and can't protect the QB. If Annarumo wants to play a 5 DB look better get some safeties that can tackle and on offense fire Pollack. Positive note I doubt if Annarumo will be taking any NFL HC jobs.

Merry Christmas!!!

Steelers top yardage outputs in 2023:

1. 421 at Bengals
2. 397 vs Bengals
.
.
.
3. 333 at Raiders
4. 326 vs Titans
5. 324 vs Packers

The Bengals defense absolutely sucks this year. George Pickens roasted them so bad that someone should’ve played Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire on loop on the team plane home.

Draft and/or free agency needs in no particular order:

WR #2
WR #3
RT
LG
TE
DT
CB
S
P
DE — They need a second pass rusher but won’t get one because the roster is clogged with mediocre edge players.

And need depth everywhere.

And need a new OC/playcaller and O-line coach, with heavy scrutiny at DC and HC.

Good luck!

No to receiver, o-line, d -line (pass rusher, where has Miles Murphy been). TE could have had Sam LaPorta, safeties that can tackle, linebackers neither are good vs the run but too many other holes to fill. Punters are dime a dozen amazing how the Bengals had two of the worst the last 2 years. Depth though by far is the biggest issue. Fire Pollack.

I don’t think the Bengal future is as bleak as you suggest. Yesterday’s game would have been completely different if Burrow was playing. Burrow doesn’t throw the 1st int in the end zone with no Bengal in sight. 3 or 7 pts on that drive stems the tide and the game is either 7-3 or tied up at 7. If Burrow was playing the game is probably 17-10 Steelers at the half which means Watt & Highsmith are unable to tee off the 2nd half. No OT’s (especially the Bengals OT) are able to keep those two away from their qb when you are forced to throw because you are down 24-0.

Yes the Bengal safeties are no where near as good as last years but one has to make choices of who to sign/resign/let walk when you are fortunate enough to have to pay one of maybe 10 qb’s walking the planet who can win realistically win a Super Bowl. It’s possible to find average safeties or edge rushers who are adequate/average and still win. How easy is it to find a game changing qb? Ask New England & Bill Belicheck how easy it is to with without a starting qb not named Brady. I believe Belicheck is well below 500 in his career with no Brady as his starting qb.

Once Burrow went down everyone knew the season was over. To Browning’s credit he has played far better than a backup and kept the Bengals season relevant.

As long as Burrow is under center the Bengals window to win a Super Bowl is open. Enjoy the next 10 years with Burrow because when he is gone, the franchise has historically proven they will most likely be ill-relevant.

That is the issue keeping Burrow healthy, bengals FO doesn't seem to understand or be able to figure out how to do that. 49ers made it the SB with Jimmy G. and Colin K. not that long ago, now have Mr. Irrelevant playing QB, good organization's that know how to build a team is important.

Didn’t the Bengals play in the Superbowl not long ago? Did the 49s win said superbowl? You sound like you’re not very smart

Nope. Just frustrating to watch a legit three-year window to win a title get flushed down the toilet.

Yes the Bengals were in a Super Bowl & 2 AFC title games over the last 3 years but they were never the favorites. They were there because of 1 primary reason - Burrow.

If Cincinnati does things correctly over the next few years, they will look like KC: great qb play will have to offset some deficiencies on offense at other positions and the defense will have to be stud or two with mostly young guys on rookie deals. Drafting & developing plays will be a must.

The big " if."

The big " if."

And if they do not, as long as Burrow is healthy he will still make the Bengals a tough out come playoff time.

The Bengals will never have a stacked roster like the 49ers simply because their qb is no longer on his rookie deal. Once Purdy is on his 2nd contract, the 49ers will be forced to win BECAUSE of Purdy and not just with Purdy.

Fyi. 49ers are in Year 2 w/ Purdy and next year at this time they will be deciding on to extend him or not. Remember, Purdy was a 7th rd pick do his rookie deal is only 4 years with no 5th year team option.

They’ll need to put bubble wrap around Burrow to have any shot at a ‘chip.

How many times can Burrow come back from fairly serious injury? This one concerns me more than the knee, which if you watch his body language often still bothers him psychologically if not physically. This injury can be repaired for range of motion and strength can be restored, however, flexibility can be permanently affected and only time will tell if he comes back with the same velocity on the ball he had prior to this injury. But given his propensity for injury, he likely will be out within the next two years once again. Personally, I am pulling for the old Joe to return, but practically there is so small of a difference in the NFL between elite and average, and this injury may very well have turned him into average if he were to loose 5 mph on his fastball and struggle with command and location.

If Bengals can win their last 2 games, good shot at the playoffs, though winning in KC would be quite the upset even in today's NFL. As for next year let Boyd and Higgins walk, 4 of the top wr's in the NFL, Nacua, Hill, St. Brown, Diggs were all drafted in 4th or 5th rd. can find good receivers deep in the draft. Use that money for a dominant RT. Great tackles are harder to find than great receivers.

Until they figure out the offensive line, every season will be in peril as Burrow will continue to be a sitting duck. It also doesn't help that they're going to start losing skill position players around him as his contract adversely impacts their ability to retain them as well as go out and get free agents.

The numbers guy on ESPN said the Bengals chances of making the playoffs is now at 13%. Even if cincy wins out, they will need a good amount of help.

NY Times has them at 73% chance to make the playoffs with 10 wins, that was from a Cincy Jungle article however went to NY times website and they had the Bengal chances at 20 %, CJ writer must have had too much eggnog.

Browning has played really well so it’s possible. Even with Burrow, beating KC there next week is a daunting task. Cincy has just too many injuries on D with the DT, CB and Hendrickson knicked up - MaHomes will take advantage of the Bengal backups even with his crappy wr’s.

Last game vs Cleveland the Browns may rest players if Baltimore has clinched the division & they have the 5th seed secured.

According to PFF Turner (52.5), Hill (53.1), and Robbins (rated 35th best punter in a league of 32 teams) all have low PFF scores, answer don't draft players from TTUN. Meanwhile Bates is having one of the best years of his career (90.9 PFF score).

Although many OSU and Michigan players go on to have good NFL careers, there always should be a careful, skeptical eye when drafting players from those schools because most of their Big Ten competition is absolutely terrible.

You’re right, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota send horrendous linemen and tight ends to the league. Buckeye, PSU and TCUN players are soft and never make good draft picks.
