090

I decided to listen to the two EP's by the Progressive Metal/Rock band Wheel.

Wheel - The Path (EP) 2017
-My Ratings: 76.563

Wheel - The Divide (EP) 2018
-My Ratings: 75.740

The Path was much heavier with 2 of the 3 tracks going on my playlist. The Divide while I liked it less had the best track of the two with "Pyre" which was the only track of the 4 that made my playlist.

Yoth Iria - Under His Sway (EP) 2020
-My Ratings: 76.363

Black Metal

Only 3 tracks on this one and just 17 minutes long but it was the precursor to their great debut album "As the Flame Withers". One track though did make my playlist (Sid-Ed-Djinn)

-Rank: 1067 (out of 2300)
-Median: 74.0

Best Track: Rainbow Song [81.0]

This album was not well liked by the critics and yes it was not nearly as good as their two previous and the one after it but it was still a decent album. I liked basically all the tracks minus the last one but I would also say that there was only 1 great song for me on it....

-Rank: 1797 (out of 2301)
-Median: 70.8

Best Track: Question [77.0]

3rd and final album. Actually they were long broke up when this one came out and it was just put together with older material just to obligate a contract.

Best Track: Clock on the Wall [75.0]

I did not know this band went back this far and this was their 3rd album. I see why I never ventured this deep with them as I did not care for most of this album.

This one has that old school feel with a crusty almost punk like style. Liked most of what I heard especially the instrumentals.

Not to shabby for a 70's rocker still keeping it alive. The tone of that guitar is still amazing....

-Rank: 1891 (out of 2313)

Best Track: Montségur [76.6]

When I think of Iron Maiden I think of strong driven bass and power vocals. Never been a huge fan though I do own some albums and have seen them live. Did not care for this album only liking 5 of the 11 tracks and nothing that made my playlist.

Debut album. I was an instant fan of this band when I first heard them a couple of months ago. This was their debut album and it was great with every track making my playlist. I've seen two online concerts by these guys and love everything they do and I plan to buy their whole discography.

King Mountain - Tempest at the Gate

-Heavy Rock

My Ratings: 77.305
-Rank: 470 (out of 2318)
-Median: 76.5
-Range: 9.0

Best Track: Sacrifice [84.0]

"King Mountain is a bluesy stoner rock/heavy rock band from Greece. Heavy riffs, bluesy lead jams and soulful vocals is what we want to share with the world sending the message that Heavy Rock is not dead."

Pretty solid album which I liked every track. To me this had a Robin Trower vibe with the bluesy solos and the vocals.

112

Linkin Park - Meteora (2003)

-Nu/Rap Metal

My Ratings: 76.970
-Rank: 520 (out of 2319)
-Median: 76.00
-Range: 17.0

Best Track: Numb [85.0]

Saw Linkin Park during Hybrid Theory and loved that album but I did not listen to anything else from them fearing they had turned too rappy for my liking but I finally gave Meteora a chance and found that I had heard half the songs before. This one depressed me and "Breaking the Habit" seemed like a suicide note, very touching. Two tracks near the end I did not like at all and that hurt the overall score but I wished I would of gave this album a chance back in 2003.

MC5 - High Time (1971)

-Hard Rock/Proto-Punk

My Ratings: 74.006

Cave In - Heavy Pendulum (2022)

-Sludge/Post Metal : Alternative/Stoner Rock

My Ratings: 75.297
-Rank: 855 (out of 2321)
-Median: 74.8
-Range: 10.0

Best Track: Careless Offering [82.0]

Following the death of their lead singer/bassist Cave-In returns with a Sludgy mix of tracks. This is the only album I have heard from them so I have not experience their Metalcore years but this album especially early on was dominated by a Sludge presence. At times strangely I got a Queens of the Stone Age vibe. Anyhow, I liked basically all 14 tracks with 3 of them making my playlist.

Surprised at this rating. There first album was there only metalcore album, the others are more post/space rock. This is the sludgiest of all of them.

Also, Caleb ( the deceased bass player) did sing, but he was not the lead singer. He did write most of the music though. Their singer and guitar player Steve Brodsky (who plays in a lot of bands, including Mutoid Man) is one of my favorite musicians of all time.

Thanks for the info. Wiki [Caleb Scofield – lead vocals, bass (1998–2006, 2009–2018; died 2018)] had him as a lead and that is where I got the info from. Metallum does not recognize them as metal so they don't exist there.

Surprised by the rating? I guess you thought I would like this more. Well, a 75+ is pretty high in my ratings as it falls near the top 1/3 of all albums I've heard. I thought a couple of tracks were great on first listening. The track I mentioned in the rating and the title track. The other one that stood out was "Blood Spiller". "Blinded by a Blaze" was another I liked a lot. The first half of the album would of rated near 78 the 2nd half though seemed less Sludgy and more Alternative/Post and dragged a bit for me. Still liked the 2nd half but not nearly as the front half. I'll add the album to my playlist and revisit it down the road. Which album from them would you suggest I listen to next?
