Voivod - War and Pain (1984)

Speed Metal
Debut album by Voivod and it is much different than the few albums I have heard from them or that of when I saw them in concert. Voivod to me was always a bit proggy but none of that on this album. This was just simple raw Speed/Thrash Metal. Just plug the guitar into the amp and whatever comes out is it....... In the end I liked 5 of the 9 tracks.

Debut album by Voivod and it is much different than the few albums I have heard from them or that of when I saw them in concert. Voivod to me was always a bit proggy but none of that on this album. Surprisingly this is only the 2nd Wings album I have heard. I liked this one better than "Band on the Run". Much better. Venus and Mars is a great album with only a couple of weak tracks.

Progressive/Melodic Death Metal
This one ranks very high on Metalstorm though it is early in 2022. First time I am hearing these guys and the sound is pretty busy. Lots of prog and some of what I would call technical death. Very fast at times and others slows down to a crawl with simple sounds. I do prefer the slower tempos but once I got use to the extreme prog it wasn't that bad. These guys are definitely very advanced musicians...... Best Track IMO was an instrumental, the song I like the most with vocals was "Architecture of the I" [76.0]

Saxon is still around and they are aging well. Like most Heavy Metal albums all the bite is on the first side with the first 3 tracks making my playlist. Side two sounded more like filler tracks. This one though was refreshing as it sounded like something from the 80's. Some good ole Heavy Metal!

First 3 tracks were pretty decent but that is where it ends. Half of the remaining 8 were meh with the half half me not liking. Overall, I would say it was a disappointment for me though many seem to dig the new album. There was some prog thrown in with the mix but the biggest issues I had was the vocals.

I thought this was a newer band but when back tracking found out they have been around since the 90's so I just had to check out their debut album especially learning that they opened up for Slayer in 1994. Well, this one sounded like a more distorted Helmet. Liked all 12 tracks with 7 of them making my playlist. Can't wait to hear more.

Napalm Death has been around for a long time and back in the day I did not care for them but I decided to see what they sound like now.... and I still did not care for it. I did like 3 of the 8 tracks though and there were some sweet riffs but I just don't like that vocal style.

Only liked 4 tracks on this one. Not a fan of this type of Death Metal. The drums were just too much for me with the double bass going a million miles an hour. There were some great riffs through out but most of the tracks ended strangely. I did like this album much better than their album from 2000. Though I did not like it I can still see why this one was highly rated.
