What is wrong with Mahomes?

Go Buckeyes
About a year ago, I posted a thread about who had the best chance to take over the mantle of best QB of this era with Brady retiring. It seemed pretty obvious that Mahomes was a notch or two above others due to his own level of success and still being relatively young. Last year seemed like he was a little down but this year he has dropped off quite a bit more. I don't watch many of his games but I am surprised by his struggles, especially in the first half. Is it just Tyreke Hill and a few less weapons or is there something else going on?

Happens to most teams after the QB signs the big contract. They have to start trading away, releasing, or not re-signing a chunk of core players and depth…including his weapons. That’s the price you pay for an elite QB in his second and third deals.

The talent around him is down and the NFL has started to figure out the KC offense. Make Mahomes check down and the offense flounders. Kelce is certainly top notch but his best receiver, Rice, is a rookie and not in the top 30 in the league.

His WRs drop a lot of passes and sometimes can’t even line up legally
This if Toney is not offsides, Chiefs win yesterday and Mahomes has another 4th qtr, TD drive. However both tackles have been struggling (Smith I don't believe played yesterday) Kelce before releasing has to chip a lot messes up the entire passing game. I don't care who the QB is if he doesn't have time to throw, he is not going play up to his ability. Makes what Burrow did the last 2 years that much more impressive with the p*** poor lines he had to work with.

noone said to cut burrow. a comment was made regarding your constant biatching about the oline. if you think browning is better than burrow thats on you. you make it seem like lineman are easy to obtain. colts have a supposed great oline and look at what the bengals did to them. bengals have one of the worse defenses in the league.

Because the oline was bad the last 2 years and I was pointing out how great Burrow is (was) to take the Bengals to the SB I don't think any other QB in the league would have accomplished what he did playing behind that line.

Nothing is wrong with Patrick MaHomes and yes, he is still on pace to equal or exceed Tom Brady’s career. Comparing the two through 7 seasons is a bit difficult because the game has changed, it is so much more a passing game now compared to Brady’s first 7 seasons. The first 2 NE Super Bowls, Brady was far more a game manager than the 7X Super Bowl Champ qb he became. KC 2 SB were won with MaHomes being the main reason. Again, a big part of this is because of how the game has changed but non the less MaHomes was a more important clog in his teams SB wins.

Both players sat most of their 1st season so through 7 seasons they were starters for 6 of them:
* Brady: 96 games, 72-24, 147 td’s-78 int’s, 3 rushing td’s, 59 fumbles & 23 lost, 3-0 in Super Bowls

* MaHomes: 93 games, 72-21, 215 td’s- 60 int’s, 12 rushing td’s, 34 fumbles & 12 lost, 2-1 in Super Bowls

Both qb’s had solid ownership, very good head coach and a HOF TE. Mahomes is only 28 so if he stays healthy and has a desire to play (both a big if’s), he could have another 12 seasons. It’s hard to imagine anyone getting 7 Super Bowl wins like Brady but MaHomes is on pace to get near it.

Mahomes is just fine and by all accounts I have seen appears to be a stand up guy.

I would agree that Mahomes is fine. Outside of Kelce, the rest of the offensive roster in KC is pretty average. The WR group is below average. Plus defenses have caught on to a lot of what Reid is putting out there.

If you are telling me I could pick any QB I want for my Browns going forward, I'm still taking Mahomes. I like Burrow a lot, but he has health issues every season.

its all because of the oline.

just ask the blowhards.

1) Bad offensive line, especially the tackles
2) Below average WR's. A lot of drops, miscommunications, lack of big play ability. The inability to line up correctly is just icing on the proverbial cake.
3) Lack of a running game. Reid has never been big on running the football, but outside of Pacheco, there is no running game.
4) Crybaby, you can tell he's taken on the NFL golden boy mentality.

Great QB, but his co$t has cost the team.

Mahomes is a “crybaby”? This Sunday was probably the first outburst I can recall by MaHomes. I’m pretty sure Brady had far more and Peyton Manning was know to have a few as well.

Mahomes & KC may not be the AFC #1 seed but I’d still trust MaHomes over any AFC qb.

Hard to believe that AFC qb’s Burrow, Herbert, Rodgers and possibly Allen will not make/play in the playoffs this year.

Mahomes has got a little more loose with the ball, the early INT set the tone yesterday, some big pics vs. the Packers last week. But overall, this is the ebb and flow of NFL teams. KC got it done early with Mahomes when he was cheap, now you've got some guys making big coin and you have to let some of that good depth go away. Yes there has been drops but Mahomes has made some poor throws. The are certainly still relevant, but they've always played from the topside, hosting the playoffs throughout. It really makes you appreciate Belichick and the Patriots. They rebuilt about 3-4 times with Brady being the lone holdover. That's hard but it takes a solid front office to see it for what it is. The Patriots were also very defensive oriented, Brady just steered the ship a few of those years and the defense carried the load. Can Mahomes be that kind of guy, or is he going to always want to be slinging it around.

True; but Brady was willing to take less than market value to ensure talent was on the roster to enable those SB runs, otherwise Bill and the front office wouldn't have looked so great.

Absolutely, 100% correct. So what is winning worth to the players? I'm sure the union wants each player to get as much as they can, because that's what union's do.

I thought Brady was a crybaby too. It’s starting to look like the NBA with QBs, WRs and DL crying for calls.

It’s not just the union, the agents have a big say in the owner/player contract negotiations for the NFLPA and obviously for the owner-player individual contracts.

Mahomes contract is the 8th highest average yearly contract in the NFL at $45 mil per, Burrow currently has the highest at $55 mil average per year. Mahomes is a $37.1 mil cap hit in 2023 and was $35.8 mil last year - not too bad of hit for either year. Mahomes cap hit in future years is:
* 2024 - $57 mil,
* 2025 - $60.8 mil
* 2026 - $63 mil
* 2027 - $59 mil
* 2028 - $27 mil+
* 2029 - $34 mil+
* 2030 - $45 mil+
* 2031 - $48 mil+

+ These years appear to be dummy years to spread out the cap hits in prior years. I believe MaHomes would be a free agent after the 2027 year but rest assured, KC would resign him to a new deal prior to that happening.

What Team leads the NFL in drops? Mahomes acted like a democrat after the correct call was made! Toney never looked for verification that he was legal. How about some Accountability for the person that actually cost them the Game!! Chiefs some whiny little democrat biatches!
